Chapter 12: Birds in the Courtyard

Feeling the warmth on his hand, Gao Dongxu's mood was indescribable.

Love fills the courtyard...

This is a classic drama of the era, and it has caused countless people to complain.

The sanctimonious eldest uncle Yi Zhonghai, the power-obsessed second uncle Liu Haizhong, and the stingy third uncle Yan Bugui.

The others also have their own magical powers.

He Yuzhu, the bootlicker, has no bottom line.

The shrew Jia Zhang is shameless.

The villain Xu Damao harms others for his own benefit.

Green tea Qin Huairu is bloodthirsty.

The thief Jia Banggeng is ungrateful.

. . . . . .

It can be said that all the villains and beasts have gathered together.

Of course, objectively speaking, these characters transcend the simple distinction between good and evil. Each character carries multiple facets, like an intricate painting, intertwined with emotions and the complexities of life. Their actions, choices, and interactions speak to the diversity and complexity of human nature.

Qin Huairu, the lead female character, displays both political scheming and selfishness. She prioritizes her own and her family's interests, resorting to various tactics, ultimately marrying Sha Zhu but refusing to bear him a child. Jia Zhang embodies the wicked mother-in-law, selfish and disregarding others' feelings. Sha Zhu, portrayed as kind and warmhearted, is exploited by Qin Huairu and confined to his own life.

Furthermore, characters like Bang Geng, Yi Zhonghai, and Liu Haizhong all possess their own flaws and complexities. Bang Geng displays a conflicted mentality, enjoying Sha Zhu's favor while simultaneously despising him. Yi Zhonghai, seemingly impartial and selfless, harbors hidden motives, manipulating Sha Zhu to provide for his own retirement. Liu Haizhong, driven by his desire for a higher position, even resorts to violence against his son, ultimately awakening to his true potential after his wife's untimely death.

Xu Damao is the main villain in the play, opposing Sha Zhu and doing whatever it takes to achieve his own interests. Lou Xiao'e is perhaps one of the kindest characters in the play. Although she has her own persistence and actions, she chooses to escape for love and to avoid disaster.

In this courtyard filled with complex human nature, the diversity of human nature is showcased. Each character carries their own emotions and choices, telling a complex story of their own. In Gao Dongxu's view, this group of people cannot be simply divided into good and evil, but rather, the intricate interplay between the characters depicts a microcosm of society at the time.

When he felt himself being lifted up and carried out by a group of people and placed on a flatbed cart, Gao Dongxu finally felt as if his body was hit hard by a huge hammer, and every inch of his skin was screaming in protest.

His head was buzzing and sharp pain was running through his skull like an electric current, making his vision go black and almost fainting.

The pain from the limbs was indescribable. The arms felt like they were broken alive, and the bones seemed to be shattered into countless pieces. The sharp pain spread from the broken parts to the whole body, and every slight movement could cause a piercing pain.

My legs also lost feeling. They felt heavy as if they were filled with lead, and as if they were deeply pierced by countless steel needles. The pain made my muscles twitch constantly.

The scrapes and bruises on his body burned like fire. Blood oozed from the broken skin, staining his clothes red.

The excruciating pain in his body made breathing difficult. Every breath felt like countless knives stabbing at his chest, sending pain radiating through his nerves. Meanwhile, even more devastatingly, the hunger in his stomach was a constant companion. It felt like a hand was constantly scratching at his empty stomach. The weakness brought on by hunger intertwined with the pain in his body, making him even more miserable.

Every hungry wriggle seemed to remind him of his helplessness and misery, as if even the most basic survival needs could not be met in this painful moment.

The whole person feels like being abandoned in a dark abyss, suffering from both physical and mental torture.

When he woke up again, Gao Dongxu smelled the scent of disinfectant in the modern hospital. He opened his eyes with difficulty and saw a white putty ceiling and a long iron light tube emitting a dim white light.

Enduring the pain as if my body was falling apart, I moved my fingers.

"Ok?"

"Ah, Dongxu, you're awake? That's great, woooo..."

Qin Huairu, who had been holding Gao Dongxu's fingers tightly, lying on the bed with her big belly, and fell asleep due to exhaustion, suddenly woke up with an excited expression on her face. She held his hand tightly, looked at Gao Dongxu who had opened his eyes excitedly, and started crying again with emotion.

Looking at the crying Qin Huairu, Gao Dongxu felt very complicated. He really didn't know how to face Qin Huairu, the unlikable heroine. However, considering the position of the original owner Jia Dongxu, Qin Huairu was definitely a good woman who had done her best for him, Jia Dongxu, their three children, and Jia Zhang.

As for her various white lotus and green tea roles, if you put yourself in her shoes, it is absolutely forgivable for her, an old widow with three children, to survive in such a difficult era. It is really not easy for her to raise three children, and she is definitely worthy of Jia Dongxu.

And in terms of appearance, although this era was in the most difficult two years, everyone was pale and thin, with a malnutrition-induced earthy color on their faces, but because of the actress Hao Lei who played Qin Huairu, her beauty was unquestionable even with her bloated figure due to pregnancy.

A pair of big, watery eyes full of tenderness, a high nose bridge, plump lips, and a tearful look are even more captivating.

This kind of beauty is not only about appearance, but also about temperament. Hao Lei's temperament is very unique, with both femininity and personality. Her temperament also makes her stand out among many female stars, making her a unique existence.

This also means that Qin Huairu's slightly plump figure perfectly interprets the standard of "fat, white and tall", giving people a natural and healthy feeling.

And you can see with the naked eye that she is very well-endowed. Although she is a little plump, the fat is in the right places, with a protruding front and a curved back.

"Water..." With his cracked lips and his empty stomach that was constantly wriggling and cramping, Gao Dongxu wished he could faint again immediately or just leave this body.

"Okay, okay... Don't move, I'll pour it for you..." Qin Huairu hurriedly wiped the tears from her face with her sleeve, turned her back to Gao Dongxu, picked up the green thermos, and poured water into a white porcelain teacup.

Looking at the big P~g that was like a millstone, Gao Dongxu swallowed his saliva subconsciously. No wonder Jia Dongxu was so thin. Even if he died young, he could still leave behind three children, among whom Huaihua was a posthumous child. Qin Huairu definitely had a fertility-enhancing physique.

"The doctor said I can't give you water. I can only use a cotton swab dipped in water to moisten your lips..." Qin Huairu took the cotton swab dipped in water and gently applied it to his chapped lips.

Gao Dongxu felt the wetness on his lips and finally felt a little better, but the pain in his body and the hunger in his stomach made him drowsy again, closed his eyes, and passed out.
