Chapter 14 The Runaway Beastman
Along with the roars and curses came an even larger, devouring python.

The python's scales were a darker color, and its two jade-green eyes, like large lanterns, stared down at the two people standing on the rock.

Upon seeing the unconscious junior members of the clan on the ground, the Devouring Python became enraged, raising its extremely imposing tail and slamming it down towards the two of them.

Ling Chengen grabbed Wu Zhuo beside him and nimbly jumped away to dodge the attack.

Standing on the back of the still unconscious giant snake, he said, "If you attack again, I will kill it."

The giant snake, which had been enraged, suddenly stopped moving, but was clearly furious: "Let it go! Who are you people?"

“I’ve come to collect a debt. My father is Ling Xiao, the chief of the Shilin tribe.”

Ling Chengen felt that mentioning her name wouldn't be very effective, since she hadn't participated in the previous battles and posed no threat to these obviously ill-tempered snake-like beastmen.

As soon as Ling Chengen finished speaking, the giant serpent fell silent.

Meanwhile, the giant snake beneath her feet gradually awoke, shook its dizzy head, and turned to look at the two people on its back. It had been thinking of launching a sneak attack, but the quick-thinking elder slapped it on the head with its tail.

"Are you out of your mind? She knocked you out with one punch, and you still dare to sneak up on her?"

The giant snake that later transformed into a middle-aged beastman, wearing a very stylish snakeskin skirt around his waist, slapped the bewildered giant snake with one hand, and coldly shouted, "Go back now."

Ling Chengen and Wu Zhuo jumped off the snake and watched the giant bluish-gray snake slither away, quickly disappearing among the jagged rocks and dense, hundred-meter-tall trees.

Once the snake had run far away, the middle-aged snake-man beastman put away his stern expression and put on a somewhat unnatural smile, saying, "I didn't expect it to be the young chieftain of the Stone Forest tribe who came in person. That kid just now didn't see you before. He was just following the tribe's orders to keep watch here. He would attack if anyone crossed the boundary. He didn't mean to offend you."

Ling Chengen was too lazy to argue with him. He had already wasted an hour getting here, and he still had to go to the Wuyang tribe later.

Too lazy to beat around the bush, she said directly, "I'm here to pick someone up. Where is your young clan leader?"

"Uh, this..."

Seeing that his expression suddenly became strange and that he was speaking haltingly, Ling Chengen realized that this trip to pick up the person probably wouldn't go too smoothly.

"I've arrived. Whether I'm injured, crippled, or dead, I should at least see it with my own eyes, right?" Ling Chengen had completely given up.

The snake-clan orc opposite him twitched his face and said in a very embarrassed manner, "No, our young clan leader is neither dead nor crippled nor injured."

"What about that person?"

"He's gone." After saying this, the snake-clan beastman seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, and then calmed down. "Our Snake Mountain tribe's beastmen are mainly criminals exiled from the southern Beast King City. The young chieftain was exiled here with his mother. A couple of days ago, the Beast King City sent a team over, saying that they had exonerated the young chieftain's family and taken them away."

"We should have reached the border of the Northern Beast Plains by now. If Young Clan Chief Ling insists on pursuing us, we should be able to catch up, but we may have to cross the border."

Ling Chengen: "..."

Upon hearing this, Wu Zhuo became angry and pointed at the orcs opposite him, saying, "Your Snake Mountain tribe is so untrustworthy! You clearly promised to hand over Chang Yinbo, but you let the people from Beast King City take him away."

"Such a flip-flopping will surely lead to word getting out that no one in the Northern Beast Plains will be willing to do business with you anymore. How will your Snake Mountain maintain its foothold in the wasteland then?!"

Ling Chengen remained calm, casually sitting on the rock behind him, grabbing the small black snake that had wrapped around his ankle, and throwing it far away.

"You think I'm going to travel thousands of miles to chase after someone just because you said that casually?"

She raised her misty black eyes and stared straight at the middle-aged orc: "Your Snake Mountain tribe was defeated, and you suddenly left at such a crucial time of paying tribute. How could he, a mere young chieftain, just leave with you so easily?"

"Do you still think that as long as Chang Yinbo leaves, our Shilin tribe will be completely helpless against your Snake Mountain? At most, we can only make you hand over more prey, but in the end, we will be helpless and simply give up?" Ling Chengen was not old and his voice was not loud, but every word he said made the orc opposite him break out in a cold sweat.

"So what if the nobles of Beast King City are exiled to the wasteland? Do they really think they can escape this debt by running away?"

The snake-like orc bowed his head and said, "We can hand over twice the amount of prey, we just hope the Stone Forest tribe will let this matter go."

Ling Chengen shook his head and said, "No need. Just bring the prey as originally agreed. I will personally bring the person back later. Whether or not to spare his life is up to me."

"Wu Zhuo, let's go." Ling Chengen started walking down the mountain.

Wu Zhuo transformed into a giant eagle and flew past her. In the blink of an eye, the two of them soared into the sky and headed north.

Only after leaving Snake Mountain's territory did Wu Zhuo ask, "Sister En, why don't we ask for double the prey? The people have all run away. Our tribe fought a hard battle; we should at least get something in return, right?"

Ling Chengen looked down at Wu Zhuo beneath him and snorted, "Do you think it's that simple? If we take double the prey, it's the same as abandoning their young clan leader."

"Whether their young clan leader was taken back by the people of Beast King City or ran away to avoid this marriage is up to them. I can't possibly cross the border of the Beast Plains to verify whether what they say is true or false."

"That's settled then. It'd better that kid be taken away by the people from Beast King City, otherwise, if he dares to go back to Snake Mountain Tribe, he'll be in for a world of hurt..."

Wu Zhuo was still somewhat indignant: "So that's how it is?"

Ling Chengen slapped him on the head: "What else? Kill all the snakes in the Snake Mountain tribe?"

"You don't find it tiring, but I find it troublesome."

If they truly enrage those giant devouring serpents, although it won't necessarily result in mutual destruction, their Stone Forest tribe will definitely suffer severe damage.

Not cost-effective.

She sat cross-legged behind Wu Zhuo, looking down at the boundless northern wilderness, and said with a majestic air: "Wu Zhuo, don't be limited by petty gains. Sooner or later, I will lead my people across the border of the wilderness and become the only overlord of this land."

Wu Zhuo was startled by her words, his wings stiffened, and he whispered, "Sister En, although having lofty goals is a good thing, the border of the wasteland really cannot be crossed easily."

"There are many beast cities in the south, and there are many powerful beastmen. Every time a natural disaster occurs and the wasteland is littered with corpses, the beastmen in the northern wasteland try to cross the border to find a new habitat, but they are all left with nothing but bones."

"We can just stay in the Northern Wilderness Beast Plains. Being the overlord of the Northern Wilderness Beast Plains is already very powerful!"

Ling Chengen looked at the useless golden-topped giant eagle, and did not refute his words, but a sense of pride arose in his heart.

Why can't we cross the boundary?
People live to pursue a better life.

Why are the orcs from the north not allowed to live in the south?

Why should someone born in the North be labeled a criminal, a vagrant, or an inferior beast?

She simply refused to believe this superstition.

"Let's go to the Wuyang tribe."

The seed that had sprouted in Ling Chengen's heart grew stronger and stronger, and a certain idea became more and more intense.

But at this moment, no one knows that she harbors ambitions to transcend all odds and a heart that yearns to traverse the eight directions.
