Chapter 42 The Concept of Kinetic Weapons
Chapter 42 The Concept of Kinetic Weapons (Please continue reading)
After perfecting the formula, Richard gave Anna the concentration potion he had made over the past two weeks as payment and commissioned her to order a machine.
The cost of materials for the past two weeks was all borrowed from Anna.
"What you want isn't hard to make; a magic probe and a few stable magic input devices will do the trick. But..." Anna hesitated, a crazy suspicion creeping into her mind about the machine Richard had commissioned.
Did he use a machine to make potions?
"Sister Anna, what are you trying to say?"
"It's nothing." Anna shook her head, shaking off the crazy thought in her mind.
How can potions be made by machines?
"I happen to be free these few days. Wait a week, then come see me again in a week."
Seeing Anna agree, Richard felt reassured. Anna's research focused on magical armor and alchemical machinery. As Jorod's most outstanding student in a thousand years, her expertise in alchemical machinery was undoubtedly the best among the apprentices.
The quality and precision of the machines made by her are absolutely guaranteed.
After leaving the testing area, Richard followed Anna to the commercial district to settle the magic stones for the potion.
"You're making a fortune these days, I'm almost out of your league," Anna teased Richard as she handed him the bag full of magic stones.
Richard smiled shyly, "How can I compare to you, Senior Sister? One of your magical armors is worth a month's worth of potion making for me."
"How old are you now? I'm already a senior apprentice," Anna exclaimed, feeling a sense of the younger generation surpassing the older, with the older generation being left behind.
Richard has only been involved in alchemy for a short time, yet he has already achieved such results.
When he reaches my level, I wonder what kind of monster he'll become.
Having not returned to his dorm for half a month, Richard bought several dozen kilograms of fresh beef and two kilograms of iron pellets in the commercial area.
I haven't fed Wuni for days, don't let it go hungry.
Fortunately, when he returned to his dormitory, Wuni didn't seem to have changed much, except that its feathers were somewhat dull and lacked their former glossy shine. Richard even found a trace of flesh and blood at the corner of its mouth.
"You little rascal, you actually went out to steal food." Richard stroked Wuni's feathers, and Wuni gently rubbed against him.
After feeding Wuni, Richard returned to his desk and looked through the model that Ellie had given him again.
The disassembled rune array can still be used as a spell, but Richard now needs to consider how to make the spell more useful.
"After the Ice Cone spell is cast, there's a relatively long acceleration process..." Richard scribbled casually on the manuscript paper with a quill pen, "Continuous acceleration, isn't that similar to a rocket?"
Rockets need to constantly consume fuel to reach their maximum speed, while the Ice Spike spell gradually accelerates by consuming the kinetic energy that the spell adds to the ice spike.
If he repeatedly uses the acceleration spell on the ice spike during its acceleration process, wouldn't the projectile's damage range be longer and its power be stronger?
Richard felt he had found the key point.
But ideas are just ideas; turning them into reality requires considerable effort.
If Richard wants to create this magical garment, he needs to find suitable materials for the spell, and then design the rune locations and the conduit pathways.
Secondly, the number of runes in this spell should be reduced as much as possible. The more runes there are, the more magic power is required, and the greater the heat loss. If the inscription is done with the current number of runes, Richard will not need to experiment with materials and can just use mithril.
But which alchemist wouldn't covet mithril? How could an apprentice possibly get his hands on it?
Richard envisioned that this magical armor should have a long and narrow acceleration channel, with kinetic spells inscribed at different points along the channel so that the spells would act entirely on the launching entity.
Richard sketched his idea into a draft, and after making some revisions, a very crude wizard-style gun appeared on the paper.
"What a coincidence!" Li looked at the draft and couldn't help but chuckle.
With the initial design drawings in hand, Richard began to work on manufacturing.
First, he asked his neighbor, Ellie, to reduce the number of runes in his kinetic spells as much as possible, and Ellie readily agreed. Next, he began collecting materials he deemed suitable for experimentation in the commercial district.
According to Richard's vision, this magical suit should consist of acceleration pipes and projectors; in layman's terms, gun barrels and bullets.
The material of the bullets is particularly important.
A qualified bullet must possess sufficient hardness, relatively low density, and adequate malleability. Ideally, it should also have anti-magic properties.
But collecting materials was a tedious task. After trying it out, Richard suddenly remembered that he had met an apprentice who was in the business of alchemical materials.
……
"There's a lot of stuff here..." Kevin looked at the list Richard had provided. He had been in the alchemy business for a while, but looking at the list of materials Richard had given him, Kevin couldn't even guess what Richard was planning to do.
"When conducting experiments, it's inevitable to try several different materials," Richard said casually.
"I'll keep an eye out for these things in the commercial district for you. If any wizarding guilds or apprentices sell them, I'll get them for you." Kevin folded the list and put it in his inner pocket. "I heard you've become a big shot, Richard."
"What kind of big shot am I? I'm just using my mentor's name," Richard said, waving his hand.
"Hey, being too modest is just being arrogant." Kevin got up and poured Richard a cup of tea. "Anna's Cottage's Concentration Potion has quite a reputation in the business district. Apprentices who have used it say that its quality is more consistent than the potions from Ulrich's Alchemy Shop."
"Ulrich's Alchemy Shop?" Richard asked, puzzled.
"You didn't know?" Kevin asked, somewhat surprised. "Before you, Focus Potion was always sold at Master Ulrich's alchemy shop."
"I really didn't know that." Richard touched his chin somewhat awkwardly; he hadn't really paid attention to who was selling focus potions in the commercial district.
The college's focus on the pharmaceutical market is huge; it's not time for him to compete with others yet.
"Everyone's saying that you deliberately made a focus potion to fight Joseph because he stole your woman..."
"What the hell?" Richard interrupted with a laugh. "I'm not that free."
"You didn't mean it that way, but some people think that way anyway." Kevin paused. "And the potion business at Ulrich's Alchemy Shop has indeed been somewhat smaller because of you."
"It turns out that the supply of potions was always insufficient, and everyone tolerated the poor quality. But with your competing product, some apprentices who weren't in a hurry have started to wait."
"What are you waiting for?"
"I'm waiting for your potions." A glint of light flashed in Kevin's eyes. "Your potions are of high quality and consistent, and you produce a considerable quantity every month. If I'm not in a hurry to go on a mission, I'll naturally buy all your potions."
"I really didn't expect that." Richard shook his head. "So, just say what you want to say."
"Haha, Richard, you're still the same as always, whether on the airship or now." Kevin chuckled, revealing his purpose.
"I want to be your potion agent."
