Double Transmigration: Many Children, Many Blessings, Conquering Fairy Tales and Reality
Chapter 5: The First Pot of Gold and the Generous Baron
Traveling through the dark forest was far more difficult than Qin Hao had imagined.
Due to extreme unfamiliarity with the terrain, and the difficulty in identifying landmarks in the forest at night.
Even with a compass in his hand, he still took many detours in the woods.
Several hours later, as the first light of dawn appeared on the horizon, Qin Hao finally emerged from the oppressive primeval forest.
As the sun rose, a typical medieval town suddenly appeared in his field of vision.
The town is surrounded by a rough wooden fence, inside which are scattered thatched-roof houses with pointed roofs, slowly turning windmills, and a rather imposing pointed tower made of gray and white stone blocks in the town center.
"We've finally arrived."
Qin Hao breathed a long sigh of relief.
Before entering the town, he found a secluded thicket.
With a thought, he took out a large-capacity modern outdoor hiking backpack from his personal storage space.
To avoid attracting attention, he stuffed the blood-stained machete and the hideous werewolf head into the sturdy backpack and zipped it up.
He then slung his backpack over one shoulder, dusted himself off, and strode toward the town gate.
As dawn broke, some early risers and merchants in the town had already set out onto the muddy streets to begin their day's work.
"Halt! Who goes there?"
As soon as Qin Hao reached the entrance of the town, two patrolling guards wearing simple leather armor and carrying long-handled spears blocked his way.
They scrutinized the strange young man with his bizarre clothes, black hair, and black eyes, looking him up and down with a critical gaze.
Qin Hao replied calmly and respectfully:
"Good morning, sirs. I am a merchant from the far east, passing through this area, and wish to sell some trinkets I brought with me in town."
"Eastern merchants?"
Upon hearing this name, a clear look of surprise flashed in the eyes of the two guards.
In their minds, Eastern merchants carrying expensive silks and spices usually only appeared in the capital or those bustling port cities. Why would they come to a remote border town like theirs?
However, despite their surprise, the guards didn't make things too difficult for them.
After all, businessmen enjoy a good social status in this era.
One of the older guards nodded and gave the routine reminder:
"So you are guests from the East who have come from afar. You may go in, but you need the Lord Baron's permission to set up a stall and sell your goods here."
You need to go to the town hall in the center and pay a silver coin to obtain a temporary trade certificate, understand?
"I understand the rules, thanks for reminding me."
Qin Hao smiled slightly, then changed the subject as if asking casually.
"By the way, I heard that the town is offering a bounty for hunting down the werewolves in the forest?"
The guard paused for a moment, then gave Qin Hao a strange look:
"That is indeed true. The Baron did issue a bounty for the safety of the territory."
However, those were ferocious werewolves from the Black Forest. Apart from wandering knights who valued money over their lives and seasoned demon hunters, almost no one dared to take on this deadly task.
Why would a businessman like you ask this?
Qin Hao didn't say anything, but a slight smile appeared on his lips as he put his hiking backpack on the ground.
"Whoosh—"
With the sound of a zipper being pulled open, Qin Hao reached into his backpack and pulled out the machete, still stained with dark red dried blood.
Then, he grabbed the rough hair on the werewolf's head with one hand and pulled it out by force!
The enormous wolf head, its eyes wide open in death, still exuded a chilling aura of brutality in the morning light.
"So, may I go collect my reward now, you two?"
Qin Hao looked at them with a half-smile.
"Clang!"
The young guard dropped his spear in fright, and the two men gasped.
The look in his eyes as he looked at Qin Hao instantly changed from indifference and scrutiny to extreme fervor and awe.
Anyone who can single-handedly behead a werewolf in the Black Forest must be an extremely terrifyingly powerful individual!
"Of course! Honorable wolf-slaying warrior, please come with me immediately!"
The older guard's attitude instantly underwent a complete 180-degree turn.
He didn't even care about the spears on the ground, and with a slightly bent back, he led the way for Qin Hao with utmost respect.
Led by the guards, Qin Hao arrived unimpeded at the magnificent stone manor in the town center, where he met the town's supreme ruler—the Baron—in the reception room.
The baron was a middle-aged man with a large beer belly, dressed in a classic medieval velvet aristocratic outfit, with several gold rings inlaid with gemstones on his ten fingers.
"Good day, Your Excellency."
Following the etiquette of the era, Qin Hao bowed slightly with respect but without losing his backbone, and then explained his origins and identity as an Eastern merchant.
The baron, seated in the main seat, immediately showed great interest upon hearing that Qin Hao was a rare Eastern merchant.
When the guards presented the bloody werewolf head, the baron stood up excitedly from his chair.
"Praise be to the sun! This is a fully grown werewolf from the Black Forest! Warrior from the East, you have rid my land of a great scourge!"
The baron appeared extremely pleased, and with a wave of his hand, his butler immediately came forward with a tray.
On the tray lay two gold coins, gleaming with an alluring luster.
"This is a well-deserved reward, brave Eastern merchant!"
Qin Hao's eyes lit up, and he unceremoniously pocketed the two heavy gold coins.
This is the most widely accepted currency in this other world!
"Thank you for your generosity, Your Excellency."
After accepting the money, Qin Hao smoothly transitioned into the main topic.
"Sir, since I am a merchant, would you be interested in seeing the precious goods I have brought from the ancient East?"
"Oh? An Eastern treasure?"
The baron's eyes narrowed instantly, gleaming with greed and curiosity.
"Let's take a look!"
Qin Hao reached into the huge backpack, and under its cover, he made a thought.
He took out two colorless glass goblets, which he had bought wholesale in Yiwu, that were completely unadorned but extremely pure and clear.
When Qin Hao placed the two glasses on the mahogany table in front of the Baron.
The entire reception room fell into a deathly silence.
The baron's eyes widened suddenly, and his breathing became rapid.
With trembling hands, he carefully picked up one of the glasses and held it up to the sunlight streaming in from the window.
Not a single impurity! Not a single bubble! Not even a trace of turbidity!
Sunlight penetrates the cup without obstruction, refracting a dazzling halo of light.
"This...this could be the legendary pure crystal cup that only a master dwarf could polish?!"
The Baron's voice was trembling.
In an era where even ordinary green glass is full of bubbles, this extremely pure glass is considered by them to be a rare treasure made from the finest natural crystal!
"It's so beautiful, it's simply a masterpiece of the gods..."
The baron's gaze towards Qin Hao completely changed, now filled with respect.
"Eastern merchant, you are not only a hero who killed the werewolves, but also a great merchant with amazing wealth."
As a nobleman, I would never deceive a hero!
The baron gritted his teeth, as if he had made up his mind:
"These crystal glasses, so pure, would fetch at least five gold coins each if auctioned in the capital. But I simply love them so much."
If you're willing to part with them, I'd like to buy both! I'll offer 12 gold coins, how about it?!
Upon hearing the offer, Qin Hao's heart skipped a beat.
