21. Longsword & Iron Shield

Three days later, in villages surrounding Kazimir.

The Undead got up very early today, waiting for his reward for his first transaction.

Three days ago, the Undead ran out of the warehouse, completely naked.

Oh, except for the loincloth.

While trying to escape from the city of Kazimierz, they encountered two knights who were completely drunk.

They clamored for a duel and insisted on finding someone to witness the match.

These lower-ranking knights do not have squires. It's not that they are not qualified, but rather that they have no value to be served; they are merely brute force without any formal training, and are only nominally affiliated with the Knights' Guild.

At that time, the Undead were just passing by and trying to sneak away when they were caught by these two guys.

The square-headed knight shouted that he wanted the old man, the Undead, to witness their duel.

The Undead were eager to leave the city and had initially intended to refuse.

Unexpectedly, just as the square-headed knight was pulling him, the round-headed knight behind him thrust his sword directly into the square-headed knight's neck.

The sword tip pierced the square-headed knight's throat and appeared before the undead.

The undead man, his face splattered with blood, looked past the incredulous square-headed knight and towards the round-headed knight behind him.

The round-headed knight grinned as he sheathed his longsword, then raised it towards the undead.

The rest is history.

The Undead smashed the man's cheap breastplate with a single punch, then reached into his abdomen and pulled out a large string of internal organs.

After killing the round-headed knight who tried to attack him, he stripped the square-headed knight of his armor and put it on himself. He also found the identity cards on both of them.

Holding the longsword hanging at his waist, the Undead disposed of the corpse with two fireballs and left the city of Kazimierz that very night, following the road signs.

When leaving the city, the square-headed knight's identity card also helped the undead.

He didn't find the first village around Kazimir until dawn the next day.

Here, the Undead used the cash carried by the two knights to buy himself an old house.

The house was practically bare. Apart from a table and two chairs, there was nothing else.

The next day, he helped the village blacksmith deal with a deadbeat who owed him the final payment for several months.

In exchange for this deal, the Undead had a blacksmith forge him a suitable full suit of armor, as well as a longsword and a shield.

It is worth mentioning that.

When the blacksmith was taking measurements of the immortal's body, he marveled at its physique.

Don't overthink it, I'm not interested in the bodies of immortals.

I was just surprised that the Undead, with such a frail body, could knock down that former mid-level knight with a single punch.

Furthermore, he did not have any Originium crystals on his body, so he was not a patient with Oripathy.

The Undead waited at the blacksmith's door for quite a while before the blacksmith finally got up and opened the door.

"Hey, old man, you're here so early?"

The middle-aged blacksmith smiled and greeted the undead.

"Ah."

The Undead nodded, staring at the blacksmith without saying a word.

"Don't look at me like that. I know what you want. Come in."

The Undead followed the blacksmith into the shop, where various weapons hung on the walls.

Although none of them are particularly exquisite, you can tell that the maker put a lot of effort into them; they gleam with a cold light and are all high-quality products.

"I told you before, if you want something made here, don't get your hopes up too high."

After the immortal man entered, the middle-aged blacksmith first served him a cup of hot tea and then asked him to sit down.

"Our family's traditional craftsmanship is not bad, but it is still quite different from the modern, high-quality products in Kazimir City."

The blacksmith pointed to the wall where he was standing.

"Most of them are handmade goods like these. I don't make those high-end gadgets made with Originium."

The immortal nodded.

He knew that, but for him, these sturdy and simple cold weapons were the most suitable for his habits.

"Like the armor you're wearing."

The blacksmith tapped on the undead, on the thing he'd taken from the square-headed knight.

"These are items made with modern technology. If they're even better, there are even energy shields made of Originium. I could never make those things, no matter what."

The immortal shook his head.

"I don't need those."

There were some pauses in his speech, but there was basically no language barrier.

The blacksmith completely mistook the language habits of the undead for the ailments of the elderly.

In his eyes, the immortal was really just an old man.

The Undead naturally had some beard, and with the wrinkles all over his face, he looked like an old man in his seventies or eighties.

"Wow, the old man's pretty confident!"

The blacksmith chuckled as he finished speaking with the undead. Then he went into the inner room and took out two boxes.

The blacksmith placed the two boxes on the table and gestured for the undead to open them themselves.

The undead opened the box and saw a weapon and a simple shield.

The weapon is a standard one-handed sword, with the guard, or hilt, slightly curved forward to form an arc.

After the Undead described the design to the blacksmith, the blacksmith quickly drew a sketch and showed it to the Undead.

As for the shield, it was a medium-sized shield made for the Undead according to his own request.

This medium-sized shield provides the user with considerable protection without significantly affecting the user's carrying capacity.

With its curved surface, it is an excellent shield, whether used for parrying or as an impact weapon.

"I never expected that after all this time, there would still be people who are fond of this kind of old-fashioned style."

The blacksmith himself was somewhat moved.

In a time when knightly games are all the rage, he originally thought that only some old-fashioned noblemen would regard these old-fashioned things as decorations.

But unexpectedly, someone actually used them in battle.

However, if one's skills are excellent enough, even an ordinary sword and shield can shine far beyond the material and forging techniques.

"good."

The Undead nodded slightly. He reached out and grasped the longsword. The weight and balance of the longsword were well done, showing that the blacksmith's skills were not as bad as he modestly claimed.

"I'm glad you're satisfied, sir, hehe."

The blacksmith felt a little smug when he heard the praise.

However, the blacksmith suddenly remembered something, crossed his arms, and made a suggestion to the undead.

"Since these are your sword and shield, why don't you give them names?"

"naming?"

The Undead looked at the blacksmith with some confusion.

"why?"

"Why? Aren't you going to participate in the knight competition, sir?"

The blacksmith spoke to the immortal with a touch of melancholy.

"Give your weapons and shields a resounding name, then take them to your own stage. After your victory, people will remember not only your name, but also the names of the weapons you used."

He looked at the scratched weapons and shields on his wall.

"Here are some weapons I've collected, which were sold by those down-on-their-luck knights when they had to face reality. But the history left behind has never been changed; it is recorded in people's minds along with these names."

The Undead fell silent for a moment; the blacksmith's words reminded him of something.

Indeed, long ago, there were always some special weapons that would grow alongside their owners, recording everything they experienced and leaving it for future generations to observe and speculate on.

The Undead lowered his head, looked at the two simple and unadorned weapons in his hands, and nodded.

"You're right, they do, they should have, names that belong to them."

The immortal was deep in thought.

The blacksmith also looked at the undead with anticipation, hoping to hear some nice names from them.

Then the Undead stretched out their hand.

He pointed to the longsword and said.

"Longsword."

He then pointed to the shield.

"Iron Shield"

"Ah."

The blacksmith nodded expectantly, waiting for the undead to name him.

The immortal looked up at the blacksmith, who remained silent with a smile on his face. The immortal thought he hadn't heard him clearly.

So he pointed to the longsword and shield in the box and said...

"Longsword, iron shield."
