Splendid peasant girl busy farming

Chapter 11796 A surprise

Chapter 11796 A Startling Startle

Yang Ruoqing entered the room, which had previously been used to store some of the children's discarded toys.

Families with children, especially modern families with multiple children, certainly face the same dilemma: children's interests in toys change constantly as they grow older, from six months old to one year old, one and a half years old, two years old, and beyond.

When they were very young, they played with rattles. As long as the little drum shook and made a thumping sound, it would attract their attention.

But as they grew older, the little drum was neglected; they preferred the little tiger and mouse dolls made of scraps of cloth.

Take the two kids from the Luo family, Tuantuan and Yuanyuan, for example. They had so many toys when they were little. Not only did their family spoil them, but they also kept buying and making toys for them.

Several older siblings, including Chen'er, kept bringing back toys for them from outside.

When relatives and friends come to visit, they like to bring them toys. During holidays, Yang Ruoqing will also symbolically buy them some new toys.

After all this, well, some people don't like the old ones anymore, and it seems a waste to throw them away, so they give them to someone else's child?
That doesn't seem right either. These things aren't like food. First, these little toys can't be exchanged for much silver. Second, they can't fill our stomachs. Third, these are toys that our own children played with, carrying a memory and childhood memories.

So after much thought, Yang Ruoqing called the whole family together, and they all agreed that none of the toys the children had used, the rocking horses they had ridden, the kites they had flown, or any other toys they had flown would be given away.

So Yang Ruoqing specially set aside an empty room to store these toys.

The wooden crates, and even the tin crates, were all filled with toys.

Moreover, the room is dry and well-ventilated, so toys stored here are less likely to be damaged or infested with insects.

There are also cats in the house, which often pass by in the vicinity. Other cats from the village, or stray night cats from the neighborhood, all like to come and circle around the Luo family's yard to look for something to eat.

The Luo family liked to feed the stray cats that entered the courtyard. Over time, these stray cats became too lazy to leave and stayed near the Luo family compound. They didn't eat the Luo family's food for free; they patrolled the Luo family's warehouses and granaries, and if they found any trace of rats, they would kill them one by one.

Now, the room is very quiet, and you can't hear any squeaking or chattering from the corners.

Meanwhile, the injured weasel mother was settled in a makeshift nest made of two futons in the corner, sleeping on her side with her head and neck covered by a trumpet-shaped bamboo cover made by Yang Ruoqing.

The design of this cover was inspired by the 'shame cones' that were popular in pet stores in my past life.

When cats and dogs have undergone surgery or been neutered, a flared device is placed around their necks to prevent them from constantly licking their wounds.

This thing is very soft and resilient, and it doesn't flip over, so the yellow-skinned mother sleeps on her side.

Yang Ruoqing stayed by its side for a while, then went to look at another box next to it, where three little yellow weasel cubs were sleeping soundly on their brothers and sisters.

And you know what? Apart from a few specific creatures, like cave maggots, rats, and insects, most animal offspring are really cute and heartwarming.

Yang Ruoqing even gently touched the three little cubs with her fingers a few times. Looking at their chubby little bodies, they were obviously being well taken care of by their mother.

However, almost an hour has passed since the incident, and I'm afraid the three little ones will wake up hungry soon and cry for their mother to feed them.

Given the weasel's current condition, feeding it might be a major problem...

...After lunch, Wang Cuilian, Sun Shi, and Rong Gu busied themselves preparing ingredients for making mooncakes, since the Mid-Autumn Festival was the day after tomorrow.

Tomorrow, Duo'er will go back to her parents' home to deliver Mid-Autumn Festival gifts, and Luo Da'e will also be going back to her parents' home to deliver Mid-Autumn Festival gifts.

So, Wang Cuilian and Sun decided to make all the mooncakes this afternoon so that when their families came to deliver Mid-Autumn Festival gifts tomorrow, they could also share the homemade mooncakes.

Nini was left in the care of her two mothers, while Tuantuan and Yuanyuan played with Linglan and Ping'an. Yang Ruoqing then freed up some time to pack her things in the dormitory, preparing the items she would give to Duo'er's three children the next day.

A moment later, Xingwang came to report, "Madam, we couldn't get the milk you requested, but we did get the goat milk. There's a family in Lijia Village who has a female goat that gave birth a few days ago, but unfortunately, the goat died."

"Okay, tie the mother goat to the backyard first, I'll be there in a bit."

Half an hour later.

In the house where the weasel family was settled, Yang Ruoqing saw the weasel mother on the futon next to her open her eyes. She almost jumped up in alarm, but because she was wearing a collar around her neck and her body was injured, she couldn't jump up. The weasel mother, lying on the futon with her fur standing on end, bared her teeth at the unfamiliar surroundings. Yang Ruoqing chuckled and said, "Don't panic. This is my home. No one will hurt you."

Upon hearing Yang Ruoqing's voice, the weasel mother realized that there was another person in the house.

It was the human woman it had seen before it fell unconscious. It didn't smell any malice in her, only goodwill.

However, it dared not trust humans because humans were cruel; its head was almost chopped off by humans!

"Stop grinning! Look, I'm feeding the little ones for you!"

Yang Ruoqing turned to the side. She was sitting there, and now, there was a large handkerchief on her lap, with a little cub lying on its back with its four legs in the air.

Yang Ruoqing gently supported the baby's head with one hand, and with the other hand, she was feeding the baby goat milk in small sips.

The weasel mother smelled and saw her cubs. Her first reaction was excitement and unease, fearing that Yang Ruoqing was harming her cubs.

However, the sound of the little one gulping down milk, and the aroma of goat milk wafting through the house, left the weasel mother puzzled and confused.

It stood up shakily, supporting itself on its two front legs, and looked up at Yang Ruoqing. The fur that had been standing on end earlier had now smoothed out...

"There are two more in the box over there, not one missing. Don't worry, no one's after your little ones," Yang Ruoqing said while continuing what she was doing.

"Once you've recovered, I'll send you back home, back to where you came from. I won't keep you here; that would only be a burden to myself!"

The weasel mother seemed to understand some of Yang Ruoqing's words. She looked at Yang Ruoqing, then at the little cub in her hand whose belly was round and full from drinking, her ears twitched twice, and her slender eyes blinked.

Just then, Xingwang came knocking on the door, carrying a large bowl.

The moment the knocking sounded, the weasel mother was so startled she almost jumped up.

Yang Ruoqing ignored it and said to Xingwang at the door, "Put the bowl at the door, I'll come and get it later."

As Xingwang's footsteps faded into the distance, the weasel mother's tense body gradually relaxed a little.
