Chapter 175 006. Fellow Villager

Chapter 175 006. Fellow Villager
"Hey, are you from District 9?"

Qing Yise was surprised, and a hint of excitement appeared in his eyes.

"Hmm." The young man nodded, seemingly sensing something, and hesitated before speaking, "Uh..."

Qing Yise coughed, cleared his throat, and said seriously, "Brother, speak Chinese."

A hint of barely concealed joy appeared between her brows.

The young man confirmed it and said with a smile, "Okay."

"Where are you from? Would it be convenient to add you on WeChat?" Qing Yise rarely saw a normal fellow villager of the same age, and in the joy of surviving a disaster, she was much more relaxed.

“My ancestral home is in Xiangshui. When I was a child, I accompanied my parents south and lived in Guangdong for a period of time.”

"Really? Have you been to Guangzhou?"

"Stayed for a while."

"Really?" Qing Yise smiled broadly. "My home is in Huacheng. You can come visit sometime."

As they spoke, the faint sound of footsteps could be heard in the stairwell.

Qing Yise immediately fell silent and looked at the man who called himself Zhu Qinsheng.

The latter gave her a cautious look, then reached the wall and listened intently.

After a while, the sound faded into the distance.

Fujiwara Chizuru couldn't jump between rooftops, so she had to obediently go downstairs.

Until the sound disappeared, Jin Ziyue peeked out of the stairwell window and saw Fujiwara Chizuru hurriedly chasing after the neighboring floor.

He got up and went back to the girl hiding in the room, saying, "It's alright now."

"Thank you for saving me," Qing Yise said gratefully.

"It's just a small favor. No boy would have the heart to let such a pretty girl be bullied, would he?" he laughed half-jokingly.

"Aren't you afraid I might be some kind of criminal?" Qing Yise was a little worried. After all, she was no longer human, and it would be a sin to scare ordinary people.

The other person glanced at her, smiled, and said, "You're dressed like a student, aren't you? Rather than saying that a pretty young lady is a villain, I'm more inclined to believe that the two groups just now had ulterior motives."

"Smooth-talking," Qing Yise muttered, then said nothing more.

She stood up and moved her legs; her calf and hamstrings were strained and a little painful.

The young man noticed her expression and casually asked, "Is your leg alright?"

"It's just a muscle strain, no big deal."

"Wait a minute." He turned around, took out some liniment from the medicine box, squatted down gently, and said, "If it's a strain, it's better to apply some."

He raised his head, and through his clear eyes one could see a sky full of stars. For some inexplicable reason, he lowered his head a little more.

The other person found her a stool to sit on and gestured for her to stretch her legs.

The young man's technique was very comfortable, and the pressure was just right, which quickly improved blood circulation in my calves.

Qingyi's face was a little hot, and her knees, which were coated with oil, soon felt hot and burning.

"Does it hurt?" the young man asked.

"No, that's perfect. Have you studied massage?"

"I've done research on it." The young man smiled. "When I was a kid, I would massage the shoulders of the elderly."

"Amazing." Qing Yise praised casually, but her mind was on the warm touch on her ankle.

"Alright. I'm sorry, I was presumptuous." The young man smiled apologetically.

Qing Yise twisted the hem of her school uniform skirt, shrank her legs, and whispered with her head down, "It's okay."

She shifted her attention to the room: "Is this your room?"

“It’s a friend’s. He runs an online store here, and I came to help him organize some of his inventory.”

……

Fu Xun quickly climbed the stairs, leaping and bounding like a nimble monkey, dodging and weaving through the stairwell.

The big guy upstairs was quite good at chasing; the rooftop door was removed in less than a minute.

Fortunately, he was familiar with the terrain, and as long as the other party didn't realize he had followed the wrong person, he could just delay them a little longer.

The chase was exhausting; he was walking downstairs at a pace as fast as a mail press, and his speed was like riding an elevator.

Fu Xun heard noises downstairs and realized that another person on the other side seemed to have surrounded them from below.

"Depend on."

He grumbled and saw a row of bamboo scaffolding outside the fourth-floor window. The neighboring building was under renovation, covered with a light green dustproof cloth. Because the floors were so close together and the building was high up, these stairwell windows didn't have window covers.

Without delay, Fu Xun squeezed through, half his body stuck outside the building. He could reach the bamboo frame opposite with his hands, then pulled his legs back and hid in the green dust cloth. Cement from upstairs was falling with a clatter, and Fu Xun stepped on the wooden planks, which creaked loudly.

When Tanaka ran down, he could only meet up with Fujiwara Chizuru in the middle.

"What about people?"

The two looked at each other.

"Hey kid, what are you doing? Danger!"

The workers in the next building shouted.

Fujiwara Chizuru immediately looked towards the window, but unfortunately, her field of vision was limited, and she couldn't see what was happening. This time, Fujiwara decisively climbed onto the window and tried to climb over as well. A construction worker on the other side saw her and shouted loudly, "Hey! Hey!"

Because of his size, Tanaka could only go downstairs to chase after him.

After the policewoman crawled through, she quickly showed her identification, and the workers fell silent.

She ran up quickly, but the wooden plank swayed violently, forcing her to slow down. Meanwhile, the suspect had already used his agility to climb down to the lower floors.

"Section Chief!" Tanaka shouted from downstairs, gesturing with his hands to amplify his voice, "Be careful."

"They still got away."

A moment later, Fujiwara Chizuru and Tanaka caught up to the crossroads, looking at the passersby with a hint of helplessness.

"Their stamina is incredible," Tanaka said, panting.

“We’ll go back and request access to the video footage,” Fujiwara said. “At least we’ve found traces of the suspect, which means our suspicions were correct.”

“Okay.” Tanaka’s expression turned solemn.

Fu Xun pursed his lips and walked out of the alleyway in the corner as if nothing had happened.

"Damn it, he goes to pick up girls himself, but he expects me to play the bad cop and be the bait. Do I have to be his wingman?" He was somewhat resentful and cursed the guy in the rented room in his heart.

The investigators wanted to check the surveillance footage, but he didn't seem to care much. The surveillance cameras in the area were old and in disrepair; long-time residents knew they were just for show. Besides, there were many culprits at night, and they were more afraid of being exposed than of uncovering crimes.

It seems the White Walkers are also looking for that girl; her escape must have carried some crucial information with her.

Fu Xun sensed a conspiracy in these events.

The organization explicitly mentioned Qing Yise's presence during this mission, and news of her escape has likely spread. This girl probably has no idea how many eyes are watching her in the shadows.

Fu Xun's discovery of Qing Yise was entirely accidental. Coincidentally, Fu Xun was just worrying about who the escaped female ghost was when the torrential rain stopped him.

After the storm subsided, he wanted to return to secretly check on Yan Wuxun and Douzi, but he encountered a standoff between Qing Yise and Yan Wuxun. He promptly changed his strategy, instructing Jin Ziyue to approach her. Most Fate Chasers are arrogant, fiercely independent, and unyielding; the only way is to approach them first and then slowly extract information.

However… Fu Xun stared through his binoculars at the two people in the opposite building chatting happily.

This guy is way too familiar with the routine.
