Unusual Fate Records

Chapter 181, Section 012: Exposure

Chapter 181, Section 012: Exposure
"You're awake." Jin Ziyue heard the noise and gently knocked on the door. "May I come in?"

"Please come in."

"I'm sorry, I fell asleep while we were chatting last night," Qing Yise apologized.

Jin Ziyue stared at her face, his expression stiffening for a moment.

Qing Yise asked, puzzled, "What's wrong?"

Jin Ziyue turned his head away, forced a smile, and said, "It's nothing."

The girl frowned. How could she believe it? She got up, went to the wardrobe, pulled out the dressing mirror, and the moment she saw her reflection, her face turned deathly pale.

To be precise, her face was as white as wall powder, her eyes were sunken, her face was withered, and grayish-white patches and bluish-gray lines covered her forehead and cheeks. Coupled with her disheveled hair, she looked like a female ghost crawling out of a television set.

In particular, she stared into her own eyes, her golden vertical pupils reflecting the woman's bewilderment and helplessness.

"Get out!" she cried out sharply, instinctively grabbing the blanket to cover her face.

"Miss Qing!" Jin Ziyue hesitated.

"I told you to get out!" Qing Yise cried even harder, covering her head with her hands and curling up in the blanket.

Jin Ziyue opened his mouth but didn't say anything. He silently retreated and closed the door behind him.

Qingyi buried her face in the blankets and sobbed uncontrollably.

She cried for an unknown amount of time before collapsing onto the bed in despair.

She felt her life was over. The White Walkers were ugly and terrifying, and what's more, a boy she had only known for a short time had seen them. All the courage and hope she had finally mustered were shattered in the face of the cruel racial boundaries.

The Others... are ghosts themselves.

She gazed at the ghost's tear-filled face in the mirror. The ghost's teeth slowly turned into sharp serrations, her fingernails grew longer, and her skin was a morbid white, with only blue veins pulsating, making her look exceptionally frightening.

Qing Yise felt as if her heart was being torn apart. She closed her eyes, letting the tears stream down her face, her hands clenched tightly.

She hated the person who turned her into a White Walker, and she hated this body.

"Knock knock." A knock sounded on the door.

Qing Yise pulled the blanket over her face, then, remembering the young man was still outside, shouted, "What are you doing! Aren't you going to run away?!"

"Uh, this is my house..."

Seeing that he was in the wrong, Qing's momentum weakened, and he asked, "Aren't you afraid of me?"

"To be honest, I was terrified, but when I thought about how youthful and beautiful she looked yesterday, it wasn't so scary anymore."

Qing Yise was so angry she laughed: "Are all men like this?"

"Ah, more or less," Jin Ziyue said.

"Um—can I come in?"

"No!" Qing Yise stopped her, then lowered her voice, "I don't even know if I'll lose control and hurt you. How dare you come in? You're really fearless."

"Actually... I've dealt with similar people before. Miss Qing's condition is probably due to hunger, and her bodily functions have likely depleted to a critical level. I went to the black market and brought you some blood packs."

"A blood pack?" Qing Yise's eyes lit up, and he swallowed hard, but his expression quickly darkened. "Don't tempt me. I dare not drink it. If I do, I will truly say goodbye to humanity forever."

"It's alright. This is just like eating when you're hungry; it's a perfectly normal thing," Jin Ziyue advised kindly.

He continued, "How about you leave a crack, and I'll put it in the doorway?"

The room was silent for a while, then the door opened gently, and a beam of light extended from the living room into the dimly lit room, reaching all the way to Qing Yise's feet.

Jin Ziyue gently pushed the blood bag in, thoughtfully including a straw.

Then, he helped Qingyise close the door.

"Brother Qinsheng, aren't you really afraid?" the girl asked timidly. "I've read some literature before. After becoming a White Walker, once you're tainted by blood, you'll become addicted to that smell and turn into a complete killer monster."

"It's probably just a rumor, otherwise I would have died long ago." The young man laughed. "Any action is ultimately driven by one's own will. How could the mere temptation of food and drink possibly defeat a girl's kind heart?"

Qing Yise looked gratefully towards the door and silently picked up the blood bag.

After a moment, the door opened.

Jin Ziyue sat in the living room, making instant coffee, and smiled brightly: "Good morning."

The girl regained her appearance, dressed in a JK uniform, and cautiously walked to the side, her fingers nervously twisting together, not daring to look at Jin Ziyue: "Good morning..."

"That greeting alone is sweeter than the coffee in my hand," Jin Ziyue said jokingly, looking her over.

Qing Yise knew that his flippancy was meant to make her feel relaxed, and she felt even more grateful to him, saying, "Brother Qinsheng, thank you."

"You're welcome."

"I want to ask, why do you know about the White Walkers?" She finally mustered up her courage and looked up to meet the young man's gaze.

“I once had a friend, we spent some time together, and later he told me that he and I were not of the same race.” The young man looked up at the ceiling, lost in memories. “He also told me that many times, you are just like us, seeking a peaceful living space and getting along well with the people around you.”

"After spending more time with him, I didn't find you guys that scary anymore."

"I see." Qing Yise felt somewhat relieved.

"My friend also told me about many of your shared habits. After all, you're often together, so sincerity and effort from each other are very important."

Qing Yise nodded and said, "I was worried that you wouldn't accept it, so I kept it to myself. I was being petty."

"Ha, I know you're doing this for my own good. Ever since we met yesterday, you've been hunted down, haven't you? I could roughly sense something was going on back then."

Qing Yise said embarrassedly, "I'm the one who dragged Qinsheng down."

“It’s a minor issue. It’s fate that we met in a foreign land. It’s not a burden or not.” He said, then seemed to remember something and added, “By the way, when I was buying blood packs on the black market, I heard that those merchants were collecting information about you. They say they can sell them for a good price. If we have that money, we can go find a smuggler to smuggle us across the border.”

"Really?" Qing Yise had no idea that intelligence could be so valuable.

Jin Ziyue said hesitantly, "I'm just worried that it's inconvenient to disclose your information."

Qing Yise thought that he was eager to spread the news from the Others to disrupt their plans, but he was afraid that if he exposed his whereabouts, he wouldn't have time to warn the Fate Masters.

However, the current situation is clearly short-sighted; it is more important to sell the goods for cash and get away from trouble.

not to mention--

Qingyi looked at the young man. He had gone to great lengths to help her, and she felt embarrassed that he had to live such a fearful life with her.

Without hesitation, she said, "Don't worry, Brother Qinsheng, I have important information. It's just that the black market is full of all sorts of people. Can you guarantee that the buyer of the information is a human and not from the White Walker camp?"

"Yes, it's human. To prevent our whereabouts from being revealed, we can choose to communicate online. To be on the safe side, even online, we will use proxy servers or hide our IP addresses. This way, our whereabouts will not be so easily exposed."

Qing Yise stared at him blankly.

"Is there something on my face?" Jin Ziyue asked.

"N-no." Qing Yise's cheeks flushed as she watched him pondering and speaking eloquently.

"I think...it's amazing."
