Chapter 268, Section 59: Epilogue (Part 1)

Early morning.

Fujiwara Chizuru narrowed her eyes, looked at the two people in front of her, and immediately lost interest.

"Ah, so it was you who were kidnapped."

She said weakly.

"Hehe, officer, thank you." Yan Wuxun said with a smile, while pressing Kou Dou's head down to bow together.

Fujiwara rubbed his head and said with a headache, "I thought it was the masked man who committed the crime. It seems that intuition is not always accurate."

When she received the notification, fearing a potential armed conflict, she specifically called over Snowball and the Unboxing Girl.

The blonde, twin-tailed girl stood in the shadows, watching them with an indifferent expression. Bean noticed her, waved, and smiled—a smile whose hue mirrored the sunlight streaming down his face.

The woman opening the box froze, and Fujiwara noticed that she seemed to be in a bad state.

"Are you alright?" she asked with concern.

"It's nothing." The woman opening the box glanced in the direction of the beans, her expression behind the mask amused, and said, "He's quite an energetic little boy."

After Yan Wuxun was sent away with profuse thanks, Douzi left with him.

Snowball gently reached out and beckoned.

Tenyu hid herself beforehand, after all, she had worked with the Others and had a special identity. If Fujiwara recognized her, it would bring unnecessary trouble.

Yan Wuxun returned to the shop. It was around five or six o'clock, but the shop was quite noisy.

"So it was [Hundred Rivers Converges into the Sea] that gave you the time reminder. No wonder you were so calm, we were all worried for nothing." A girl's carefree voice came from the alley entrance.

Yan Wuxun was stirring rice paste when he heard the sound. His hand stopped moving, and his expression froze instantly.

"The prompt is 'dawn three quarters past,' I'm just stalling for time," came Jin Ziyue's voice.

Fu Xun was sullen; he still hadn't seen his sister.

The war is over.

The real Sanshui was taken back to her residence to begin her new life. Wei Zheng and Xu Hong miraculously awoke, the reason unknown to anyone. Zhang Rang and Feng Shenglei took them back to Gulongtang, where they encountered Du Biao and Asong on the way.

Both imperial edicts have been incorporated into the "Hundred Rivers Converge into the Sea".

What surprised Chen Ruolan and Fu Xun the most was that when Jin Ziyue woke up and opened his eyes, there was a subtle smile in his eyes.

They stared at each other, stunned for a full three seconds.

They walked to the old shop door and stopped in unison.

The sign for "9th District Rice Noodle Rolls" is white with black lettering, but it's covered in blackened stains and dark yellow grease.

Chen Ruolan smiled but didn't say anything.

Before this, Fu Xun had never appeared in front of them directly. This should be the first time they have truly met, yet he still put on an indifferent attitude.

Jin Ziyue acted more naturally and knocked on the iron gate of Lao Yan's shop.

"Coming." Yan Wuxun's thoughts were interrupted by the knocking, and he stammered, "Douzi, open the door."

"Okay~" Kou Dou obediently replied and ran to roll up the curtain.

Standing before him were three people, prompting him to call out, "Brother Jin! Sister Ruolan! Xun!"

Yan Wuxun froze, hurriedly wiping his hands on his pants. His movements were inevitably a little distorted, and his hands trembled uncontrollably.

"Ha, Douzi, long time no see." The woman happily pinched Douzi's cheek and said, "I heard you were kidnapped. Are you alright? Let me check on you."

Chen Ruolan looked him over from left to right, and only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that he was safe and sound: "If anything had happened to you, I wouldn't have been able to explain it to your expressionless brother."

"What could possibly happen to him?" Fu Xun muttered.

"You're here too." Douzi smiled and leaned closer to Fu Xun. "Old classmate, long time no see."

Fu Xun and Douzi are both 21 years old, but Douzi still looks like a 14-year-old boy.

Jin Ziyue looked at Old Yan in the corner and said softly, "Are you alright?"

"Hey, what could possibly happen?" Yan Wuxun turned his back, waved his hand, and said arrogantly, "Tianyu is here, how could the kidnappers hurt us?"

His voice dropped a few octaves as he said, "It's good that you all came back safe and sound."

Chen Ruolan examined the shop: the rice noodle roll machine, the stove, the square folding table, the pink plastic stools—everything was just like the layout of her old home in District 9. Even the dates on the wall had an old-fashioned feel. With a tea set provided, one could order a few cups in their spare time. It was fair to say that the shop perfectly captured the essence of a rice noodle roll shop.

Jin Ziyue and Fu Xun silently retreated to the back, secretly observing Chen Ruolan.

There was no extra expression on his face.

Yan Wuxun couldn't keep his back to them, so he reluctantly turned around.

He clapped his hands somewhat awkwardly, his head bowed low. He finally mustered up the courage, only to find that his neck felt like it was weighed down by a thousand pounds, and he couldn't lift it up no matter what. He could only look at the woman's feet, which were wearing nice flat shoes.

Chen Ruolan noticed his gaze, smiled, waved to him, then turned back to Jin Ziyue and said:

"Why don't you let Douzi and Fu Xun catch up? Are you just standing there like a third wheel?"

Yan Wuxun silently withdrew his hand, which was halfway out.

Jin Ziyue gave him a helpless look and went into the store.

"When did you become a fujoshi (a female fan of male-male romance)?"

"Light corruption, light corruption." Chen Ruolan didn't mind at all, saying, "I just hope to find something real."

"Please sit down," Yan Wuxun said, leaving under the pretext of moving chairs.

"We're all old classmates, no need to be so polite."

Chen Ruolan pulled up a chair and sat down, saying to Jin Ziyue, "What did you see while you were unconscious? You've been laughing all day, don't think I can't tell!"

Jin Ziyue said, "Are you hungry? Let's have breakfast first and try Lao Yan's cooking."

Chen Ruolan glanced at him with displeasure, knowing he was trying to change the subject, but then she thought about how long it had been since she had eaten authentic hometown food, smacked her lips, and said, "Okay."

She turned to Yan Wuxun and said, "Old classmate, I'm leaving this morning to you. It's been so long since I've had any rice noodle rolls from my hometown. Make a lot, make a lot."

"Okay." Yan Wuxun nodded, picked up a bucket of rice milk, and lit the stove.

"Wow, that's impressive! Your technique looks very skillful," Chen Ruolan exclaimed.

Yan Wuxun smiled, said nothing, and continued to beat the eggs, mixing them with the minced meat.

Douzi sensed something was off about the atmosphere and asked Fu Xun, "Why does everyone seem a little unhappy?"

Fu Xun rolled his eyes at him, thinking that even a fool could see how awkward it was between the two of them.

“You don’t need to worry about it, just enjoy yourself,” Fu Xun said.

"Oh." Douzi nodded, seemingly understanding, "I'll go help."

Fu Xun secretly sent a text message to Jin Ziyue:
What happened to those two?

Jin Ziyue shook his head cryptically.

Fu Xun pursed his lips, thinking that it was a rare opportunity for everyone to reunite.

Apart from Fu Qin and Douzi's brother, all of their childhood friends gathered together.

It seems that Lao Yan and Chen Ruolan still have a long way to go.

Let's not ship this pair yet...
