Chapter 4.004. Returning Home at Night

Feiniao glanced gratefully at Jin Ziyue and quickly ran back to the kitchen.

"Hey, mind your own business!" The middle-aged man, annoyed and embarrassed, glanced sideways, lowered his voice, and hiccuped near Jin Ziyue's ear, "You brat, trying to be a hero, huh?"

Seeing the situation was turning sour, another man with high cheekbones quickly reached out to dissuade them: "Hey, don't cause trouble!"

After saying that, he stood up and stood between Jin Ziyue and the middle-aged overweight man, saying, "Excuse me, he's had too much to drink."

"It's alright, sir. I'll go get you some hangover soup." Jin Ziyue didn't mind and turned to leave.

"Stop causing trouble!" the man with high cheekbones hissed, and some of the surrounding guests had already begun to pay attention to the situation.

The middle-aged man slammed his large hand on the table, causing the entire table to groan. His nostrils flared, and his jaw muscles twitched slightly, forming pulsating bulges as the force increased.

He lowered his head, his forehead wrinkles raised high, and his sinister eyes reflected the girl moving back and forth in the kitchen.

"How's it going? Are you okay?"

Seeing Jin Ziyue return to the kitchen, Asuka Liuyi asked with concern.

"It's alright, the guest was just drunk."

Jin Ziyue's tone inexplicably warmed the girl's heart.

"Jin Jun, thank you so much just now." The girl looked sad.

"It's alright, Miss Asuka. If you don't have anything to do tonight, go home early." Jin Ziyue could sense, through the thick smoke billowing from table after table, the lurking, dark corners behind him, lurking with eyes like venomous snakes.

"Ah."

……

It was already nine o'clock. Feiniao didn't linger. She was still shaken by what had happened that night and applied to leave work early.

After changing out of her work clothes, the short-haired girl quietly peeked out from the back door.

The streetlights at the alley entrance cast a soft, orange glow.

She nervously glanced around. There were only a few pedestrians on the street, and cars whizzed by. Gathering her courage, she gripped the strap of her handbag tightly and hurried back.

The fast food restaurant owner was pulling the shutter shut as it closed; occasionally, when you came across a digital store that opened a little later, the owner was still playing on his phone in front of the counter; the convenience store was playing the latest idol drama; the bookstore lights were still on, and Feibiao thought of the girl from her school who worked there.

Thinking about all this, Fei Niao felt a little more at ease.

only--

Just as they turned into an alley, under the lamplight, Fei Niao saw two long, dark figures hanging diagonally at his feet.

Asuka Ryuu clutched her bag nervously, not daring to look back, and quickened her pace.

The footsteps behind him became clearer and louder.

Feiniao was so nervous she was about to cry; her teeth were chattering, and she silently prayed that the person behind her wouldn't come any closer.

As black as ink, a colossal beast chooses its prey to devour.

The bird endured the chill creeping up its back, its rising adrenaline driving its feet to move uncontrollably.

After finally crossing the long bridge, the reflection of the crescent moon above and below the bridge resembled a smiling face with bright eyes, half real and half illusory.

Passing through the bustling intersection, Fei Niao could no longer hear the footsteps behind her. Just as she was wondering what was going on, she didn't dare to stop. With a light tap of her white sneakers, she turned into another intersection.

Suddenly, a large, fat figure blocked the light, a thick nose pointed at the flying bird, and on a greasy face, triangular eyes were as sinister as snakes.

A large hand grasped the bird's wrist; the rough calluses touching the cold skin made the bird feel as if it had fallen into an ice cellar.

"what--"

The girl's scream came from the alley entrance.

"Hey, woman, don't you remember me?" The middle-aged man suddenly grabbed the girl's hand, making her look up at him.

The bird had never encountered such a fierce-looking face before, and said in a tearful voice, "Uncle, you've mistaken me for someone else, I don't know you!"

"What did you say!" the middle-aged man roared. "I've spent so much money promoting your business! Without me, you'd just be a third-rate bar hostess!"

The other man beside him, his hair partially obscuring his eyes, remained silent and made no move to intervene.

He slammed Fei Niao's hand away, pressed his palms against Fei Niao's head, his pupils close to hers, and his voice was like a wild beast snorting: "Now that you're famous, you want to abandon me and go find your pretty boy? Stop pretending to be innocent!"

The bird turned pale with fright, unable to meet the man's bloodshot gaze. She closed her eyes tightly and cried, "Uncle, you've really mistaken me for someone else. I'm still a student, not a hostess..."

"What a joke!" The middle-aged man grinned angrily, his eyes seeming to want to crush a bird.

Suddenly, a tin bucket came flying with a rumble, and at the same time, a dark shadow emerged. Taking advantage of the middle-aged, overweight man's dodge, the shadow grabbed the bird's wrist and shouted, "Run!"

The bird froze for a moment, then was quickly pulled away by Jin Ziyue, staggering forward.

Another middle-aged man tried to stop them, but was hit by a black plastic bag. Fruit pits, waste paper, and swill leaked out from the tear. The two men could only dodge repeatedly. When they looked up, the two men's figures had already disappeared around the corner.

"Woman—" The middle-aged man's roar startled the forest birds returning to their nests.

……

Jin Ziyue led Fei Niao along, running briskly. The girl was panting heavily, her hair disheveled.

"Can you still run?" Jin Ziyue slowed his pace, his expression concerned.

"Senior, I twisted my ankle." Asuka then realized her disheveled appearance and awkwardly withdrew her hand.

"I'll carry you."

The girl smelled the scent emanating from Jin Ziyue's shoulder; it smelled wonderful. Her cheeks flushed slightly, and she silently buried her head in her back.

"Where do you live? I'll carry you home."

"Ah."

……

"Senior, my home is just ahead. You can put me down now."

"Wait." Jin Ziyue stopped and leaned over the wall. In the distance, under the streetlights, two old men stood abruptly by the railing, the cigarette smoke at the corners of their mouths, scarlet like snake eyes, flickering in the darkness.

"Senior..." Asuka's voice began to tremble again.

"If you don't mind, come to my place."

Before they noticed, Jin Ziyue lowered his footsteps and turned to leave.

"it is good."

When the fence was opened, the mother-in-law opened the window:

"Jin, why are you so late?"

"Hmm? Never mind, haha, keep it up, young man."

"Grandma, you've misunderstood." Jin Ziyue smiled wryly.

Feiniao, on the other hand, was so nervous that she could barely speak: "Grandma... hello."

"There's no need to turn off the power tonight," the mother-in-law said, then closed the window. You could vaguely see the outline of her shaking her head.

……

Feibiao had never imagined that Jin Ziyue's residence would be so simple, and she couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness: "Senior..."

"You can sleep here tonight, I'll make your bed for you."

Jin Ziyue bent down to make the bed, patting it lightly twice, the blanket making a thick, muffled sound.

Suddenly, two delicate hands encircled my waist, and a warm, tingling sensation pressed against my back—the buzzing of a young girl.

"Senior...don't leave me."

This is my first time filling out a private message for a contract signing today, and I'm a little excited! Okay, enough talk, back to writing!
