Chapter 418, Section 110: Seemingly True

Chapter 418, Section 110: The True Story (Part 7)

"You are……"

In the dark space, everything was in chaos. The young Chen Ruolan was still recovering from the shock of death, her chest heaving violently.

"Hello, little sister, nice to meet you for the first time, and if we meet again, you can call me 'The Proverb'," the other person greeted Chen Ruolan.

The terrified girl stared at the plain white smiling mask, still somewhat frightened: "Who are you? Why am I here?"

"Don't be nervous, this is the world of the spirits, and you are on the verge of death." The other person's words were not pleasant at all.

"So, I'm going to die soon?" Chen Ruolan's eyes dimmed, and she muttered to herself with a sob in her voice, "Why, why would this happen for no reason?"

The smiling man approached her: "Because of your special destiny, you are born with a life of misfortune. Strange things are destined to happen around you, and the people around you will be swept up in the torrent of fate and carried forward."

Chen Ruolan wasn't particularly scared. Instead, she crouched down and buried her head in her arms: "But I'm almost dead now. No matter how terrible it is, it should end now..."

The other person gave him a thumbs-up and said with a smile, "So you've met me."

Upon hearing this, Chen Ruolan looked up, tears still welling in her eyes: "What do you mean?"

"I can let you live, how about it?"

The girl was stunned, unable to believe her ears: "Can...I still live?"

"Of course, if you want to live."

“I…” Chen Ruolan hesitated for once, but only for a moment. She shook her head to dispel her fear. “I must live. My friends are still in danger.”

“Good boy,” the prophet commented indifferently, “I can let you live, but you need to make a deal with me.”

"trade?"

"Yes, that's right. I can offer you the fairest and most impartial deal and help you solve any troublesome problems." The other party's words had a hint of self-praise, which sounded to Chen Ruolan like he was coaxing a child, making her tense nerves relax a little.

"Equivalent exchange, right? I understand. What kind of deal do you want to make with me?"

“It’s very simple.” Seeing that the fish had taken the bait, the prophet smiled knowingly. “I want the most powerful force within you.”

“I possess… a powerful force…” Chen Ruolan did not understand what the other person was referring to.

"That's right, your terrifying fate of misfortune, your tenacious mind, and your chaotic future."

Jin Ziyue glared at him angrily: "You bastard..."

His so-called knowledge of the matter was entirely because he was the one who placed the curse on Chen Ruolan!

It seems that letting him know about Chen Ruolan's ordeal was part of the other party's plan all along; he was playing everyone for a fool.

She even waited until Jin Ziyue broke through his destiny and was able to glimpse the secrets of the soul before revealing herself to lure Jin Ziyue into understanding Chen Ruolan's memories.

The girl looked hesitant, unsure of what to do.

"I understand. You also have your own motives. Perhaps you're only willing to help me because I still have some use to you."

Soon, her gaze hardened again: "What will happen to me if you take all of this away?" "You will survive this disaster, but at the cost, you will lose everything. You will be unable to think, unable to judge, unable to feel emotions, and unable to live a normal life."

Upon hearing this, Chen Ruolan's face turned somewhat pale.

She couldn't imagine whether she could survive if what the other person said was true.

"How about it? The price for letting you live is quite high. Exchanging your soul for your life, isn't that a good deal?" The other party spoke again, and to Chen Ruolan, this voice was even more terrifying than the hideous aliens outside.

"My destiny is not something I can control." Chen Ruolan was very clear-headed. After the series of changes tonight, although she was still naive, she had vaguely come to recognize reality.

"Who can truly control their own destiny? Everyone is desperately striving for what they believe to be their destiny, but who can truly stop and look up at the vast and boundless starry sky?" the prophet murmured to himself.

"Once I make a deal with you, will I still have a chance to become the complete me?" Chen Ruolan asked.

"Of course, I can trade with you, and I can trade with others. In the distant future, there will always be someone willing to pay a greater price to redeem your consciousness. At that time, you will regain complete freedom."

The smiling man spoke ambiguously.

Jin Ziyue simply stared at him coldly, remaining silent.

"It sounds like I have some really impressive friends." Chen Ruolan rarely showed a smile.

"Thank you for letting me know that I am so important." The girl's emotions had calmed down a bit, and she seemed to have made up her mind. She no longer stammered or hesitated when she spoke.

“However, I have a principle.” Chen Ruolan was already able to communicate with the Proverb Speaker on an equal footing, and this calm expression made the Proverb Speaker frown.

“I don’t like to trouble my friends. If even I have to pay such high prices when I trade, who knows how much more my friends will have to pay in the future. If I’m going to cause trouble for my friends in the future, then I might as well prevent that from happening from now on.”

Her tone was calm; giving up on life didn't seem as terrible as she had imagined.

"If my life becomes a bargaining chip for you to threaten my friends, then I'd rather not live at all. You're right, who can truly control their own destiny?"

“I couldn’t do it before, but now, the choice is in my hands. It’s like I’ve been given a chance to choose.” Chen Ruolan finished speaking and closed her eyes.

"I am content to hear these things on my deathbed." She knew she was innocent in this disaster, but complaining was useless; facing her experience was her only option.

"I'm abandoning the deal."

The prophet simply stood there, unable to speak.

After a long silence, he finally said, "Alright, I respect your opinion. Rest in peace, Miss Chen."

After saying this, the smiling man bowed to her, took a step back, and his figure gradually disappeared.

What remained for Chen Ruolan was boundless darkness. She stood in the blank space, and even the last spotlight slowly dimmed as the smiling man disappeared.

"Goodbye," she whispered to herself, still unable to hold back her sobs.

Jin Ziyue remained silent.

Witnessing the beams of light around Chen Ruolan slowly gathering, the boundless darkness and blood-red surroundings gradually engulfed her.

The world fell silent, and a light rain began to fall without a sound.
