Chapter 2301 Trip to Fengnan
"Mo Langqin! Mo Langqin!"
Bai Ying's clear voice reached Mo Langqin's ears through the noise of the water and the cries of the water birds.
Mo Langqin slowly opened his eyes, sunlight tracing the outline of a white shadow as it shone into them. He sat up, rubbing his temples, as if his recent slumber had not alleviated the pain of seasickness.
"We can see the riverbank! We've arrived!" Bai Ying's eyes shone as she excitedly shook Mo Langqin's arm.
For Bai Ying, who had been confined to the Mo family for so long, everything outside was new and interesting, and her eyes always shone with light. Mo Langqin liked this about her, so he was happy to take Bai Ying to explore other parts of Gu Ao.
"Is this the territory of Fengnan?"
Mo Langqin squinted. He could indeed see the port not far ahead. There were more birds and many more ships nearby.
Bai Ying pulled Mo Langqin toward the disembarkation point. As they approached the shore, a tall, thin man with a small mustache suddenly struck up a conversation with Mo Langqin, "Young man, what are you going to Fengnan for? Is it also for some miracle cure that can cure all diseases?"
Mo Langqin wasn't looking for any miracle cure, and he didn't want to have too much to do with the man, so he went along with the man's guess and said, "Yes, sir. My mother is sick, so I came here to look for a solution."
The middle-aged man clearly didn't notice the white figure behind Mo Langqin. "Young man, you came alone? You're quite courageous for your age."
"It's not just one person." The white figure popped out and squeezed between Mo Langqin and the uncle.
"Turns out she also brought her younger sister with her."
There was something strange about the uncle's tone. Just as Mo Langqin was about to ponder its meaning, Bai Ying loudly denied it.
"I'm not my sister!"
The middle-aged man smiled, and as the boat docked, he adjusted his luggage and prepared to disembark. "Fengnan welcomes young people like you."
Watching the uncle's figure disappear into the distance, Mo Langqin also disembarked from the boat with the white figure.
After leaving the port and following the flow of people, the two soon arrived at a bustling street.
"Bai Ying, let's find an inn first." Mo Langqin took Bai Ying's hand and walked in the direction the ghost beast had scouted.
The two of them came to Fengnan not for sightseeing, but to search for Bai Ying's complete remains. Although Bai Ying initially strongly objected, she eventually agreed to let Mo Langqin retrieve her remains.
Bai Ying possessed the physical bones of one of her own hands from the beginning, which is why she was able to use the hand bone to pledge her love to the Moon Bone. However, her body, apart from that hand, was not by her side.
After Mo Langqin used his ghostly power to investigate, he discovered that the white shadow still had some connection to his original body. After further investigation, he finally confirmed that the white shadow's remains were in Fengnan.
They immediately set off for Dongyu Port and took a boat to Fengnan.
"Oh! Are you two gentlemen here for a meal or to stay the night?" The innkeeper greeted them warmly and respectfully.
Mo Langqin shifted her gaze from the surrounding guests to the innkeeper's assistant, "Check in, please arrange a spacious room for us."
"Yes, yes, yes, I'll arrange it for you two right away." The waiter called out to the counter, "One room upstairs!"
After removing the corresponding room signs at the counter, they pulled on a thick rope leading to the second floor.
The waiter led Mo Langqin and Bai Ying upstairs, saying, "This way, please, sirs."
Upon arriving at the room door, the waiter gently removed the room key and handed it to Mo Langqin.
Bai Ying was the first to rush into the room, throwing herself onto the bed not far away. "Finally, I can sleep in a bed! I'm so tired!"
The waiter stood at the door and handed over a menu. "What would you like to eat, sir? Just tell us and we'll bring it up." "Bai Ying, is there anything you'd like to try?" Mo Langqin took the menu and waved to Bai Ying.
Bai Ying sat up from the bed. After thinking for a while, she pointed to the dishes on the menu and said, "Hmm... I'd like to try the roast chicken and mushroom soup."
Mo Langqin nodded. "Okay, shopkeeper, one roast chicken and two bowls of mushroom soup."
"Alright, sir, would you like anything else..." Before the waiter could finish speaking, Mo Langqin launched into a long, rambling monologue.
"Add three steamers of buns, two plates of stir-fried meat, a plate of fried rice, and three flatbreads, a stewed carp, and a plate of pickled vegetables, um... and three bowls of char siu noodles."
After hearing Mo Langqin's words, the waiter was stunned. Just as he was about to remind him that they couldn't finish all the food, Mo Langqin handed the money to the waiter.
"Here's the silver; that should be about right."
Bai Ying looked at Mo Langqin with concern and asked, "Langqin, why are you eating so little?"
Is this still less?
The shopkeeper came downstairs looking shocked.
"My stomach hasn't been feeling well these past couple of days."
Mo Langqin was still feeling a bit seasick. In the past, he would have ordered and eaten everything on the menu, but now he had to control his spending and appetite.
Bai Ying pushed open the window and exclaimed in surprise as she looked at the crowd in front of the inn, "So many people have suddenly come outside! Mo Langqin, look over there! Aren't those Taoist priests cultivating immortality?"
Mo Langqin approached the window and followed the white figure's gaze. "It really is true. There are quite a few Taoist sects coming to Fengnan."
Are they all here for that miracle drug that old man mentioned?
"Ah! Mo Langqin, look, there's a fight going on over there." Bai Ying smiled and pointed to two groups arguing in a corner of the road. "It's really interesting to see them arguing so heatedly."
“They don’t seem to be Taoist priests cultivating immortality over there, hmm…” Mo Langqin’s gaze shifted slightly from the arguing crowd and noticed a group of children in a corner alley.
"What's wrong with Mo Langqin? What did you see?"
Mo Langqin pointed to Bai Ying and said, "There's a group of children in that alley over there. Judging by their height, they should be about my age."
"I see, they still have chains on their wrists. Are they slaves?"
“I don’t know.” Mo Langqin shook his head. “I only know that the regulations on the sale of slaves are quite strict in Fengnan. It is illegal to trade outside the places designated by the government. These people brought them to such a lively place and openly argued with others, so those people should not be slaves.”
Bai Ying's thoughts were still stuck in the era before her death: "What else could someone wearing handcuffs be but a slave? A criminal? They don't seem like one."
Before Mo Langqin could answer, a male voice suddenly rang out from the tree next to the window, "Commodities, those are commodities. They may be people, but they are not people."
Bai Ying and Mo Langqin followed the sound and saw the spokesperson. The man was clinging to a tree trunk with one hand, his hair was messy, and his clothes were a faded blue Taoist uniform.
Mo Langqin narrowed his eyes. He hadn't sensed the person's presence at all until the person spoke.
This person is not simple.
Mo Langqin gave a polite, fake smile as usual, "This senior is..."
The man bowed with one hand, "My name is Bian Yu, a rogue cultivator." (End of Chapter)
