Chapter 2323 Paving the Way
Mo Langqin stumbled, but regained his balance and quickly looked around. Grayish-white mist swirled around his feet, and in the distance, he could vaguely see several thick stone pillars, their surfaces covered with dense, strange characters. He instinctively reached for his ring finger—it was gone!
He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. It was just a ring that was missing; it wasn't a big deal.
He glanced at the objects floating in the mist, and they all looked so familiar—the white figure's bone-carved box, the scattered spirit stones, the yellowed talismans... all things he had stored in his ring.
Am I perhaps inside my own ring?
"Brother Mo Li! Little Bai!"
Mo Langqin shouted into the depths of the fog. His voice echoed in the empty space for a moment before being swallowed up by the fog without any response.
I couldn't sense their ghostly power; they probably didn't follow me in.
Mo Langqin tried to summon a ghost beast, but the ghostly power was suppressed within his body and he couldn't use it at all. He clenched his fists until his knuckles turned white. Then he raised his head, his gaze piercing through the churning mist, and fixed on a huge black silhouette in the distance.
Wait a minute. That's—
A ghost-suppressing stone?!
Mo Langqin's breath hitched suddenly.
The enormous black stone stood in the very center of the thick fog ahead, exactly the same as the stone in his memory that had taken his mother—no, even larger than the one in his memory. Dark red patterns of light flowed across its surface, like veins slowly pulsating.
"How could there be such a large ghost-suppressing stone here..."
Mo Langqin's voice was hoarse in his throat. He subconsciously took half a step back, and his heel hit a raised patch of ground.
He looked down and, through the fog, discovered many neat yet winding patterns on the ground. Strange silver protrusions seemed to grow regularly on these patterns, and there were even some blurry words engraved on them. They resembled tree patterns and roads at the same time, an indescribable and inexplicable appearance.
Mo Langqin raised his head again and looked around, only to find that the space was far more vast than he had imagined. Deeper into the mist, he could vaguely see more stone pillars, more stone slabs, and even several tightly closed stone doors. A cold, eerie blue light shone from the cracks in the stone doors, as if enticing him to step forward and explore.
This space is so big...
Mo Langqin, inwardly marveling, curiously pushed open a stone door. Behind the door were rows of independent stone chambers, the floor patterns resembling branching tree trunks connecting all the chambers. Strange spells were attached to the interiors of the chambers, immediately alerting Mo Langqin who sensed something amiss.
The spells within these stone chambers varied in strength, ranging from offensive to healing, and even included spatial techniques. These thirty-odd stone chambers represented over thirty completely different types of magical barriers.
Am I really just inside the ring, or have I gone to some other dimension?
Mo Langqin wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and then carefully observed the interconnected yet independent stone chambers.
This is just what the back of one stone door looks like. What do the backs of the other stone doors look like?
After Bai Ying mentioned the hidden space in the ring, Mo Langqin had already conducted a further investigation. The results were identical to his previous investigations: a storage ring is just a storage ring; its storage space is limited and it's impossible for it to have any hidden space.
But now—Mo Langqin dared not underestimate such ordinary storage artifacts anymore. The spatial capacity of a storage ring was actually unlimited! This completely overturned any knowledge Mo Langqin had ever learned about spatial magic.
Bai Ying lay asleep by the table, the silver storage ring on it splitting into two again. Mo Langqin's figure then returned to the outside of the storage space.
"Little White... Little White..."
Mo Langqin sat on the table and gently patted Bai Ying's shoulder. Bai Ying rubbed her sleepy eyes and slowly straightened up from the table.
"Mo Li said you were sucked into the ring, and he told me not to worry. I wasn't worried at all, because I could feel that you would be alright." Bai Ying smiled at Mo Langqin, and Mo Langqin returned the same gentle smile.
“I found a copy of the Book of Prophecy inside.”
Mo Langqin spoke softly, his subtle tone suggesting he was hiding something. He gazed intently at Bai Ying's slightly reddened eyes, a forced smile playing on his lips. He had so much he wanted to say to Bai Ying at this moment, but he couldn't say anything.
"Really?!" Bai Ying was even more excited than Mo Langqin, but she quickly noticed that Mo Langqin didn't seem very happy. "Mo Langqin, what's wrong?"
Mo Langqin jumped off the table, his tone relaxed, "I'm fine, just a little tired. Let's go back."
"Mo Li said that if you come back too late, it's okay to rest in this room." Bai Ying grabbed Mo Langqin's arm and pulled him toward the bed. "If you're tired, just rest well and don't think about anything."
"what……"
Mo Langqin lay down on the bed as Bai Ying suggested, and Bai Ying also lay down and wrapped her arms around Mo Langqin's waist.
"Mo Langqin, I only hope that you can continue to be happy... don't... be so tired..."
Bai Ying fell asleep again before Mo Langqin.
Mo Langqin turned to the side, his fingertips lightly brushing against Bai Ying's temples and touching the corner of her eye. The prophecies he had seen in the storage space flashed through Mo Langqin's mind. He removed his hand from Bai Ying's cheek and clenched his fist tightly.
I love you so deeply now, how could I possibly forget you and love someone else in the future?
Mo Langqin was unwilling to believe the prophecy in the book, but at the same time, he dared not risk changing the known course of events.
If the ending was destined from the start for you to leave me, then I'd rather begin now to pave a path that will eventually lead us together. Whether you move forward or turn back, I will always be by your side.
Mo Langqin sensed the slightly warm breath of the white figure, closed her eyes, and fell asleep along with her breathing rhythm.
Thunder rumbled outside, and the wind blew open the windows, extinguishing all the candles inside. The two were not awakened by the noise; instead, they slept even more soundly, so soundly that they didn't even notice Mo Wangchuan's ghostly beast guarding their bedside.
Mo Li sensed something was wrong and quickly arrived with the ghost beast. Only a faint trace of ghostly power and the dampness from the rain brought by the wind and thunder remained in the house.
Mo Li closed the doors and windows again, and then set up a ghostly barrier outside the house before leaving with peace of mind. (End of this chapter)
