Chapter 23 Instant Noodles and Congee

Chapter 23 Instant Noodles and Congee

"Go ahead, it's only right to cooperate with the police!" Director Wang said in a leisurely manner.

Having taken leave, Wenjie hailed a taxi and headed straight for the East District Police Station.

I hadn't even been in the taxi for 10 minutes when I received a WeChat message on my phone.

Wenjie opened WeChat and found a friend request.

The reason for adding it is written as follows:

"It's me, Wenjie!"

The WeChat profile picture is of a woman in a red dress, her skirt fluttering in the wind, in a vast desert.

It was a distant shot of a figure from behind, the person and the scenery blending together seamlessly, possessing a somewhat ethereal charm that brought life to the lifeless yellow sand.

Yang Shanshan?

Wenjie's heart started racing again. He quickly pressed the "accept" button, and the WeChat interface flashed, jumping to the chat interface.

"Wenjie, this is Yang Shanshan."

It was indeed Yang Shanshan. Wenjie quickly typed in the chat box: "Hello, Shanshan."

After thinking about it, I wondered if calling her "Shanshan" right away would be too ambiguous.

He deleted each word one by one, then typed it again: "Good morning!"

Isn't this too bland? I pressed backspace twice, and the dialog box is blank again.

Good morning, Yang Shanshan!

"Wenjie, I need your help with something."

Yang Shanshan originally added a cute emoji at the end, but then deleted it after thinking about it.

"What's wrong?" Wenjie asked, somewhat surprised.

Work-related matters? What can I, as an intern, do to help them?

Life's a mess? I'm a penniless loser, I can't borrow a car, I can't borrow money...

“In the research report you submitted last time, there were a few data points that were inconsistent with my calculations. I would like to check them with you.”

Yang Shanshan spoke in a businesslike tone, and Wenjie remained silent for a moment when he saw the WeChat message.

He typed a single word and sent it: "Okay."

"Would it be convenient for you to come to the Second Branch to see me this afternoon?" Yang Shanshan asked politely, as if she were dealing with an external client of the bureau.

Afternoon? Wenjie wanted to rush back to his unit in the afternoon. It seems that after returning from the police station, he will have to go to the Second Precinct to check some data.

"Okay," Wenjie agreed, thinking to himself that it wouldn't take long to process a few data points.

Upon seeing Wenjie's reply, Yang Shanshan, who was holding her phone, smiled smugly.

He immediately told Huang Weiwei the news.

Huang Weiwei replied to Yang Shanshan with a victory emoji.

She was an adorable, energetic girl, pouting and winking at you frantically.

Just when you thought it was a cute girl acting adorable, she revealed a wicked and mysterious smile and raised two fingers to make a "V" sign.

Those were special emojis that Huang Weiwei recorded specifically for the convenience of WeChat chatting.

She looked at Huang Weiwei's raised finger and half-closed eyes on WeChat and replied with a Ge You-style slouching pose and a poker face.

What can you say about Huang Weiwei? From the very first day I met her, she was breaking up with people and being broken up with. Her love life was a tumultuous affair, but no one had ever truly entered her heart.

Yang Shanshan silently prayed, hoping that Huang Weiwei's destined Mr. Right would appear soon and take this little delinquent girl away!

Her gaze moved down from her phone screen to the file folder on the table. It was the folder Wenjie had left behind when he submitted his research materials.

On the bag, Wenjie had written the contact person and phone number in elegant, neat small characters.

Yang Shanshan tried adding the phone number and surprisingly found Wenjie's WeChat account.

Before adding Wenjie as a WeChat friend, Yang Shanshan browsed through Wenjie's WeChat Moments. There were only a few posts, and they were all work-related.

As she flipped through the pages, she felt a pang of heartache when she saw the city night view that Wenjie had casually photographed after get off work.

When an intern first arrives in an unfamiliar city and workplace, it seems that they have no choice but to work hard and squeeze out their personal space.

……

During the morning rush hour, the city roads are extremely congested. What usually takes half an hour now takes forty minutes to get to the East District Police Station.

Wenjie entered the police station building and went straight to the office on the second floor at the corner.

The last time Officer Cao took him to get his laptop, he saw Officer Cao push open the door to that office, and a little while later come out with a signed piece of paper and take him to the evidence department.

He guessed that was Officer Cao's office. Just as he was about to knock on the door, someone pushed the door open and came out.

Neither of them was prepared, and they bumped into each other. Wenjie looked closely and recognized the male police officer coming out.

During a system test, the system altered Zhao Xiaolong's life trajectory, turning him into a serial killer.

When the East District Police Station came to the *** Second Precinct to investigate the situation, Officer Cao was among those who accompanied him.

He was the one who called Officer Cao out of the meeting room; Wenjie was sitting in the meeting room at the time. He seemed to hear Officer Cao call him—Ah Xiang.

The two men exchanged a glance. Wenjie smiled slightly at Axiang and asked, "Is Officer Cao here?"

When the police officer named A-Xiang came out of the room, he had a smile on his face. But when his eyes met Wen-Jie's, he stopped smiling and stared at Wen-Jie for a second or two.

Seemingly echoing Wenjie's question, or perhaps talking to himself, he simply gave a nonchalant "hmm."

"Thank you!"

Wenjie nodded to Axiang, then flicked his finger to knock on the slightly ajar door. Through the crack in the door, he could see Officer Cao sitting behind his desk.

Officer Cao looked up and saw Wenjie at the door. He waved to Wenjie and called out, "Come in!"

Wenjie pushed the door open and entered, then closed it behind him.

Officer Xiang stood in the corridor, glancing sideways as Wenjie walked into the office and closed the door.

He didn't leave immediately, but stared at the door for a moment. He felt something was off, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it!

Perhaps it's due to the professional sensitivity of a police officer; he can't possibly forget anyone he's met.

He was certain he didn't know the young man who had come to see Officer Cao, but why did the young man look at him as if he were someone he knew?

They didn't even address him by name, they just asked, "Is Officer Cao here?"

There are generally only two situations where the title is omitted: first, you are very familiar with the person, and second, the other person is an impolite and rude person.

This person didn't seem like a reckless person.
