Chapter 50 Unexpected disaster

Chapter 50 Unexpected disaster

Huang Dongheng was the first to extend his hand and shake hands with Yang Shanshan as a courtesy.

"Excuse me, I'm going to check on things. Could you please take care of Huang Weiwei?"

As Huang Dongheng spoke, he pushed Huang Weiwei toward Yang Shanshan across from him.

Uh... is he really my brother? Huang Weiwei glanced at Huang Dongheng's back.

"Shanshan, who's in trouble?" Yang Shanshan asked anxiously, helping Huang Weiwei up, her eyes glancing towards the police cordon every now and then.

The police were busy on the other side of the cordon, and through the group of uniformed figures, a young man could be vaguely seen lying on the ground.

Jeans, white shirt... he should have been a clean-cut young man, but now he lay lifeless on the ground.

From Yang Shanshan's perspective, this was all she could see. The boy's upper body on the ground was blocked by the police. She bent down and tried for a long time, but she still couldn't see him.

She helped Huang Weiwei up and walked towards the police line. She was so focused on staring at the boy lying dead on the ground that she didn't notice her footing and almost tripped over a parking sign in front of the bakery.

"Hey! Be careful!" Huang Weiwei saw Yang Shanshan stumble and almost fall to the ground, so she quickly followed after her.

After all the ordeal, she felt much better. She went to Yang Shanshan's side and joined her around the police tape. A crowd of passersby and bakery employees had already gathered around the tape. Everyone was chattering amongst themselves:

"what happened?"

"I don't know. I heard a loud crash, followed by a man's scream. When we came out, he was already lying on the ground."

"You got crushed to death?"

"It looks like he's in grave danger. The ambulance is right over there, but they haven't even put him on a stretcher."

……

The man's head was smashed flat, a bloody mess, and his neck and shoulders were also deformed to varying degrees. Blood stained his white shirt, flowing down the fabric and onto the backpack he was carrying. The backpack looked to be of fairly good quality, but the blood-covered appearance was rather gruesome.

From his robust physique and long limbs, one could vaguely tell that he was a young and energetic boy.

Huang Weiwei looked at the huge marble slab that the police had moved aside. It was originally intended to be used as a cashier counter during the shop's renovation, but because it was too heavy and might collapse the base of the cashier counter, it had been placed on one side of the bakery.

Worried that the city management wouldn't allow her to leave any miscellaneous items there, Huang Weiwei decorated the board and pasted on advertising slogans, using it as a side signboard for her bakery.

When Weiwei Bakery was submitted for government approval, the shop sign on its front side was also approved and registered together with the side sign.

Of course, the approval process was quite complicated, and Huang Dongheng even helped to smooth things over before it was finally approved.

But this thing was fixed to the side of the wall and there haven't been any problems for so long, so how come it fell down and hit someone today?

Huang Weiwei looked at Huang Dongheng with a puzzled expression.

Huang Dongheng was negotiating with the police leader when he seemed to sense Weiwei's gaze. He looked up at Huang Weiwei.

Seeing Huang Weiwei's gaze shifting back and forth between him and the marble slab, he gave Huang Weiwei a smile.

That warm and powerful smile gave Huang Weiwei a strange sense of security.

She looked at Yang Shanshan, and when Yang Shanshan saw the boy who had been hit on the ground, she breathed a sigh of relief and asked in confusion, "Do you know him?"

"Oh! I don't know him, I don't know him..." Yang Shanshan quickly explained, "I just felt uncomfortable seeing such a young person get into trouble while walking on the street!"

As she spoke, Yang Shanshan turned her head away, no longer looking at the blood-stained crime scene on the ground.

"Come inside and sit for a while!" Huang Weiwei noticed that Yang Shanshan's expression wasn't good, and guessed that she couldn't bear to see such a bloody scene. In fact, she herself felt the same way.

The two sat down on the sofa in the bakery.

After Yang Shanshan sat down, she looked around Weiwei's bakery. She hadn't been here for a while; she was probably focused on work reports and dating.

She looked at Huang Weiwei with a hint of shame and noticed that Huang Weiwei looked preoccupied.

"Weiwei, it's okay. Your brother isn't a lawyer, he'll handle it for you!"

"..."

“Weiwei, you…” Seeing that Huang Weiwei still looked sad, Yang Shanshan got up and sat down next to Huang Weiwei, taking her hand.

Oh! These hands are ice cold. "You've caught a cold, haven't you?"

As Yang Shanshan spoke, she raised her hand and touched Huang Weiwei's forehead with the back of her hand.

"It's not hot! You don't have a fever, but your hands are so cold. Would you like something to drink?"

She got up to go to the beverage counter to get her a hot drink.

Looking over there, I was surprised to see a handsome young man standing behind the bar, busy with something.

Uh……

When she and Huang Weiwei came in, their attention was focused on the commotion outside, and they didn't expect there to be anyone in the store, so they didn't even look in that direction.

Seeing someone out of the blue, she was momentarily stunned, thinking to herself: Why doesn't this person know how to greet people?

She immediately sat down and leaned closer to Huang Weiwei, asking, "Is that a new employee?"

As he spoke, his eyes kept glancing toward the beverage bar.

Huang Weiwei didn't look up, but she knew she was talking about Jia Nan, so she just absentmindedly hummed in agreement.

At this moment, Jia Nan brought two cups of cappuccino, placed them on the coffee table, and left without saying a word.

Huang Weiwei watched Huang Dongheng negotiating with the police outside the shop window, and out of the corner of her eye, a tall figure flashed and disappeared.

Is it true, as Huang Dongheng said, that Jia Nan has a problem?

Yang Shanshan watched as Jia Nan swayed over, carrying two cups of coffee in his hands, making her worry he might spill them. She watched as he put down the coffees and quietly returned to the bar.

"This person... can talk, right?"

Huang Weiwei turned her head and glared at her: "Nonsense!"

"Oh, that's good. I thought..." Yang Shanshan didn't continue, otherwise Huang Weiwei would definitely hit her.

At this moment, Huang Dongheng followed the police leader into the room. The police leader looked around the room with sharp eyes and then fixed his gaze on Huang Weiwei.

"Hello, you must be Huang Weiwei. I'm Officer Cao from the East District Police Station."

"Oh, Officer Cao, is this the one who called me?" Huang Weiwei stood up and nodded to Officer Cao in greeting.

"Yes, it's me!" Officer Cao replied coldly. "The shop assistant said you came to the store this morning?"

"Yes, I usually arrive at the store around 10 a.m. and stay for about one or two hours."

"Has anything special happened today?" Officer Cao asked, looking up at Huang Weiwei.

"Something special? Nothing special happened."

Huang Weiwei looked at Jia Nan blankly. How did he answer when the police were taking his statement?

Strange, why am I looking at Jia Nan?

"I'm sorry, my sister has obviously never encountered this kind of thing before, she just didn't quite understand," Huang Dongheng said, trying to smooth things over.

"Weiwei, Officer, I heard from the shop assistant that you fired someone today?" Huang Dongheng said gently to Huang Weiwei.
