Chapter 1543 Extra
In the elevator, he straightened his hair in front of the mirror and noticed the dark circles under his eyes, realizing he hadn't slept well for two days. But he didn't feel tired at all; he only had one thought in his mind: "Hurry, hurry, so Qi Xue can have a hot meal as soon as possible."
The taxi sped along the empty road, the streetlights outside the window rushing past.
Tan Yue looked out the window at the passing street scene and recalled Qi Xue's first visit to the TV station where he worked. She looked around curiously, like a child who had wandered into the adult world.
Back then, she wasn't as famous as she is now. They could secretly hold hands in the stairwell and eat together in the cafeteria without worrying about anyone's stares.
Back then, she didn't have that much aloofness in her eyes.
The airport was brightly lit, but there were hardly any people there.
Tan Yue ran to the check-in counter, and thankfully, the last ticket was still available.
When checking him in, the staff member glanced at the insulated bag in his hand and said with a smile, "Bringing food to your girlfriend? It's so far away."
Tan Yue paused for a moment, then smiled shyly: "For someone...very important."
He didn't dare say that she was his wife; he knew that Qi Xue didn't like others knowing about their relationship.
The plane weaved through the clouds, and outside the window was a pitch-black night sky, with the occasional twinkling lights of the city below, like scattered stars.
Tan Yue leaned back in his chair, but he was wide awake.
He took out his phone and looked through Qi Xue's photos in the album.
From his youthful innocence when we first met, to his seriousness when filming his first movie, and now to his radiant presence at the awards ceremony, looking at each picture evokes a mix of emotions.
He knew that the gap between him and Qi Xue was widening.
She was a superstar in the public eye, while he was just an ordinary TV planner;
Her world was glamorous, filled with flowers and applause, while his life consisted only of meetings and reports.
But he still couldn't help wanting to be good to her, wanting to give her the best he could, even if that kindness might have been superfluous to her.
After an unknown amount of time, the plane began its descent.
Through the porthole, you can see the night view of Suzhou, where countless lights resemble a dazzling sea of stars.
Tan Yue felt inexplicably nervous, like a naive young man meeting his sweetheart for the first time, both expectant and afraid.
Stepping out of the airport, the humid, hot air hit me, a stark contrast to the coolness of the north.
Tan Yue sneezed, picked up the insulated bag, and quickly walked towards the taxi.
When he gave the address of the film and television base where Qi Xue was located, the driver looked at him in surprise: "Going there so late? They're filming a big star there, it's hard to get in."
"I'm bringing some food to a friend," Tan Yue said softly, deliberately avoiding the term "wife," something he was already used to hiding.
The taxi drove along the winding road, and the scenery outside the window gradually became desolate.
The film and television base is located in the suburbs, surrounded by a few temporary antique-style buildings and large tracts of farmland.
From afar, you can see the lights on the set, like an isolated island emitting a faint glow in the dark night.
When they were almost at the entrance, Tan Yue asked the driver to stop the car.
He didn't want to disturb Qi Xue's filming, and he didn't want others to see them together.
He took out his phone, hesitated for a long time, and then sent Qi Xue a WeChat message: "I'm at the entrance of your film set. Where should I put the food for you?"
A notification popped up indicating successful submission. Tan Yue stood by the roadside, looking at the lights of the film set in the distance, his palms slightly sweaty. The early morning wind blew by, carrying the damp scent unique to the south, ruffling the stray hairs on his forehead.
He didn't know how Qi Xue would react to the message—would she be surprised, angry, or... as impatient as ever?
Qi Xue was woken up by her assistant, Xiao Lin.
She was asleep in the van, covered with a blanket that Xiaolin had found for her.
She opened her eyes groggily and saw Xiaolin holding her phone, her expression somewhat complicated.
"Teacher Qi, there's someone outside... saying they've brought you some food, and that they're your friend." Xiao Lin handed over her phone.
Qi Xue rubbed her eyes, took the phone, and was stunned when she saw Tan Yue's message.
She looked at it several times to make sure she wasn't mistaken.
He really came? From the north to the south, just to bring her some food? A surge of anger instantly welled up inside her. Was he really that inconsiderate? Didn't he know their relationship couldn't be known by others?
"Where is he?" Qi Xue sat up, her voice filled with barely suppressed anger.
"They were right at the door, saying they'd just drop off their things and leave," Xiaolin said.
Qi Xue took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. She tidied her hair in front of the mirror to make sure she looked the same as usual, then opened the car door.
The night wind blew in with a chill, making her shiver.
She wrapped the blanket tighter around herself and walked toward the door, her steps hurried and heavy.
From afar, I could see that familiar figure standing under the streetlight, wearing a black coat and carrying a large insulated bag, his shadow stretching long in the lamplight.
He seemed out of place in his surroundings, like an ordinary audience member who had accidentally wandered onto a glamorous stage.
He seemed to have lost weight and gotten darker, his hair was messy, and he had obvious dark circles under his eyes.
Seeing her approach, Tan Yue smiled awkwardly and handed her the insulated bag: "It's freshly made and still warm, so eat it while it's hot."
Qi Xue didn't answer, she just stared at him coldly.
Under the light, she could see tiny water droplets clinging to his eyelashes, unsure whether they were dew or sweat.
His lips were chapped, clearly from the long journey without having had time to drink water.
But none of this could quell the anger in her heart.
"Are you crazy?" Her voice was low but chilling. "Who sent you? Don't you know where you are? What if someone sees you?"
Tan Yue scratched his head, like a child who had done something wrong: "When you said you were hungry, I figured you must not have eaten properly. I didn't tell anyone who I was, I just said I was your friend."
"Friends?" Qi Xue's tone was sarcastic. "Can we be friends with a relationship like ours? Tan Yue, can't you be a little more sensible? Didn't I tell you the crew provides food? Do you know how much trouble this is?"
"I...I just wanted you to eat something good." Tan Yue's voice lowered, like a student being scolded.
"My affairs are none of your business!" Qi Xue's tone unconsciously became harsher. "Go back now and stop causing trouble!"
He shoved the insulated bag into Qi Xue's hand and turned to leave.
Qi Xue looked at his back, the figure that had once moved her heart, but now only annoyed her.
She suddenly remembered when they first met; he was like that too, always treating her in ways he thought were good, but never asking what she actually needed. (End of Chapter)
