Chapter 1591
The next day.
Tan Yue drove smoothly on the way to the private hospital. Chen Ziyu, in the passenger seat, leaned back in her seat, her fingertips lightly resting on her lower abdomen. Her eyes held a hint of unease, yet also a subtle, almost imperceptible expectation.
Yesterday at noon in the company cafeteria, Chen Ziyu felt nauseous after only a few bites and barely managed to hold it in.
Tan Yue immediately became anxious and, disregarding her explanation that she "just hadn't rested well," contacted her usual private hospital and scheduled a comprehensive check-up for this morning.
The car was quiet at the moment, with only the faint sound of air conditioning coming from the vents. Tan Yue would occasionally glance at Chen Ziyu, his hands unconsciously tightening around the steering wheel.
Since he met Chen Ziyu, she had always been in good health and rarely even caught a cold. This sudden onset of nausea made him very worried.
"Don't be so nervous. Maybe you just haven't been sleeping well lately because you've been rushing to finish a project."
Chen Ziyu noticed his anxiety, gently patted his arm, and spoke in a deliberately relaxed tone.
"You forgot about the last time I was preparing for a collaboration with a foreign company? I stayed up for three consecutive nights and something similar happened. I just needed to rest for a couple of days and I was fine."
Tan Yue shook his head, his gaze still fixed on the road ahead: "It's different this time. You said you couldn't stand the smell of cooking oil. Last night when I was cooking, you felt the fumes in the living room. You should get checked out to be on the safe side. It's good to detect and treat any discomfort early."
He said that, but a vague idea was lurking in his mind.
The couple has been trying to conceive recently, could it be...?
The idea had barely crossed his mind when he suppressed it, fearing that the higher his expectations, the greater his disappointment would be.
Twenty minutes later, the car drove into the parking lot of the private hospital.
Located next to a villa area on the outskirts of Beijing, the hospital boasts a tranquil environment. Its white European-style buildings are surrounded by greenery, and there are no noisy crowds at the entrance, only well-dressed medical staff greeting visitors with smiles.
Tan Yue parked the car, got out, walked around to the passenger seat, and carefully helped Chen Ziyu out, his movements as gentle as if he were afraid of breaking a fragile treasure.
"Mr. Tan, Ms. Chen, this way please. Dr. Li is already waiting for you in the examination room." The head nurse greeted them respectfully and led them through the carpeted corridor.
The corridor was decorated with elegant oil paintings, and there was a faint smell of disinfectant in the air, but it was not pungent and instead made people feel at ease.
As I entered the consultation room, Dr. Li, wearing a white coat, stood up to greet me. She was a senior expert in obstetrics and gynecology, and she had been in charge of Chen Ziyu's physical examinations.
"Ms. Chen, please have a seat." Dr. Li gestured for the two to sit down and took out her medical record. "Mr. Tan mentioned that you've recently been experiencing nausea and loss of appetite. How long has this been going on?"
"It's been about three or four days. At first, I thought it was because I hadn't rested well, but the reaction was particularly noticeable when I was having lunch at the company yesterday."
Chen Ziyu sat in a chair with her hands folded on her lap and said, "Besides, I can't stand the smell of cooking fumes lately. It makes my stomach feel uncomfortable as soon as I smell it."
Dr. Li nodded, asked a few more questions, and then stood up and said, "Let's do a blood test and an ultrasound first to see what's going on. The examination room is ready; I'll have a nurse take you there."
The nurse quickly came over and led Chen Ziyu to the examination room.
Tan Yue wanted to follow her in, but was politely stopped by the nurse: "Mr. Tan, please wait in the rest area outside. Dr. Li will contact you as soon as the test results are available."
Tan Yue had no choice but to stop and watch Chen Ziyu's figure disappear at the end of the corridor before turning around and heading towards the rest area.
The sofa in the rest area is made of light gray genuine leather, which is soft yet provides excellent support. Fresh fruit and magazines are placed on the coffee table next to it.
Tan Yue was restless and had no interest in looking at the magazine. He took out his phone and found that the time on the screen seemed to be slowed down, and every second passed exceptionally long.
He got up and walked to the window, looking out at the garden.
Several rose bushes were in full bloom, and butterflies fluttered among the flowers, creating a scene of serene beauty. Yet, his heart was pounding like a deer, unable to find peace.
He recalled that when he and Chen Ziyu first got married, they had talked about wanting children, but at that time the company was just starting out and there were too many things to do, so they never put it on the agenda.
"Will there be any problems?" Tan Yue murmured to himself, his fingers unconsciously stroking the window frame.
He remembered hearing from a friend that some women experience similar symptoms due to excessive stress during the process of trying to conceive, but he couldn't help but look forward to it.
If I were really pregnant, that would be wonderful.
He imagined what the baby would look like after birth, whether he would have bright eyes like Chen Ziyu, or a cheerful personality like himself. He felt both nervous and sweet.
Time ticked by, and Tan Yue checked her phone countless times. Only forty minutes had passed, but it felt like a whole day.
Just as he got up again to ask the nurse, he heard Chen Ziyu's footsteps at the end of the corridor.
He immediately went to greet her, and saw that Chen Ziyu was holding a white sheet in her hand, with a faint blush on her face and an uncontrollable upward curve at the corners of her mouth.
"How is it? What did the doctor say?" Tan Yue walked quickly to her side and asked anxiously, his eyes falling on the form in her hand.
That was an ultrasound examination report.
Chen Ziyu didn't answer immediately. Instead, she walked up to him, looked up at him with bright, sparkling eyes, and whispered, "A-Yue, congratulations on becoming a father."
"What...did you say?" Tan Yue stood there, stunned, as if he hadn't heard her words, his mind blank.
Chen Ziyu smiled and handed him the ultrasound report, pointing to the gestational sac on it and saying, "The doctor said I'm four weeks pregnant, and the gestational sac is very healthy. I could even see a faint fetal heartbeat during the ultrasound just now."
Tan Yue took the ultrasound report with trembling hands, her eyes fixed on the images on the report and the doctor's diagnosis.
Every word seemed to possess a magical power, causing his heart to pound wildly and his eyes to instantly well up with tears.
He looked up at Chen Ziyu, his voice choked with emotion: "Really...really pregnant? We're having a baby?"
"Yes, it's true." Chen Ziyu nodded, gently wiping away the tears from the corners of his eyes, her voice full of tenderness, "Look at you, why are you still crying?"
"I'm so happy..." Tan Yue hugged Chen Ziyu tightly, but his movements were careful, as if he was afraid of hurting her. "It's great, Ziyu, we finally have a baby."
His chin rested on the top of her head, and he could smell the faint fragrance of her hair. His heart was filled with unprecedented happiness and contentment.
Chen Ziyu leaned against him, feeling his heartbeat, and a happy smile spread across her face.
During this period of trying to conceive, although I wasn't deliberately nervous, I was secretly hoping for good news. Now that my dream has come true, I can't express the joy in my heart.
The two spent another half hour in the doctor's office, where Dr. Li explained the precautions during pregnancy in detail. Tan Yue took out her phone and carefully wrote down every single precaution, even recording it, afraid of missing any detail.
When I left the hospital, the sunlight had become warm but not scorching.
Tan Yue opened the car door and carefully helped Chen Ziyu into the car, even adjusting the seat angle to make her more comfortable.
After starting the car, he drove much slower than usual, slowing down in advance when encountering speed bumps, for fear of bumping Chen Ziyu.
"You don't need to be so nervous, I'm not made of paper." Chen Ziyu couldn't help but laugh at his cautious manner.
“No, you’re carrying two people now, so you have to be extra careful,” Tan Yue said seriously. “From today onwards, I’ll take care of all the heavy and tiring work around the house. You just need to rest well and focus on your pregnancy.”
As they drove home, the two chatted about their future plans.
Chen Ziyu leaned back in her chair, listening to his description of the bright future, her heart filled with anticipation.
When I got home, it was already past 11 a.m.
Tan Yue helped Chen Ziyu into the living room, sat her on the sofa, and even put a cushion under her arm.
"You sit here and rest. I'll get you a glass of warm water and wash some fruit."
After he finished speaking, he turned and walked towards the kitchen, his steps much lighter, and the smile on his face never faded.
Chen Ziyu sat on the sofa, watching Tan Yue's busy figure, her heart filled with warmth.
She took out her phone, found her mother's number, and gently pressed the dial button.
The call was quickly answered, and her mother's voice came through the receiver: "Hello, Ziyu, why are you calling me at this hour? Is something wrong?"
"Mom, I have some good news to tell you." Chen Ziyu's voice was filled with uncontainable joy. "I'm pregnant. I went to the hospital for a check-up today, and the doctor said I'm four weeks along and the baby is very healthy."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone, then the mother's excited voice came through: "Really? Ziyu, is it true? I'm going to be a grandmother?"
"Yes, it's true. I've already received the ultrasound report," Chen Ziyu said with a smile.
"That's wonderful! That's wonderful!" The mother's voice was choked with emotion. "I was wondering why you'd been saying you were tired lately. Turns out there's good news. Wait here, I'll pack my things and come to Beijing to take care of you in a while. Xiao Yue is so busy with work, he definitely won't have time to take good care of you. If I come, I can help you cook and take care of things around the house."
“Great, that’s exactly what I was thinking of telling you.” Chen Ziyu felt a warmth in her heart. “With you by my side, I feel much more at ease.”
The mother and daughter chatted for a long time. The mother gave many instructions on pregnancy precautions, from diet to rest, down to the smallest detail, until Chen Ziyu said she needed to rest, and the mother reluctantly hung up the phone.
At this moment, Tan Yue was busy in the kitchen. He washed a plate of strawberries and blueberries, brought them to the living room for Chen Ziyu, and then turned back to the kitchen to start preparing lunch.
While washing the vegetables, Tan Yue remembered that he hadn't called his parents to share the good news, so he took out his phone and dialed his mother, Li Yulan's number.
The phone was answered after two rings, and the mother's voice carried a hint of doubt: "Xiaoyue, why are you calling at this hour? Is something wrong at the company?"
"Mom, it's not about the company, it's good news." Tan Yue's voice was full of joy. "Ziyu is pregnant. She went to the hospital for a check-up today, and the doctor said she's four weeks along and the baby is very healthy."
"What?!" Li Yulan on the other end of the phone raised her voice instantly. "You said Ziyu is pregnant? We're going to have a grandson?"
"Yes, Mom," Tan Yue said with a smile.
"That's wonderful! That's wonderful!" Li Yulan's voice choked with emotion. "Your father and I have been looking forward to this day for so long! You must take good care of Ziyu. Don't let her get tired or angry. Make her whatever she wants to eat. If you don't have time, your father and I will go to Beijing to take care of her. You don't need to worry about things at home."
“Where’s Dad? Let him hear it too,” Tan Yue said.
Soon, the voice of her father, Tan Zhaohe, came from the other end of the phone, filled with barely suppressed excitement: "Xiaoyue, is what you said true? Ziyu is really pregnant?"
"It's true, you're going to be a grandfather," Tan Yue said.
"Okay! Okay! Okay!" Tan Zhaohe said "okay" three times in a row. "Your mother and I will pack our things now and buy tickets to Beijing tomorrow! You're a grown man, you're probably not very good at taking care of people, it's more reassuring for your mother and me to go."
“Dad, don’t worry. Ziyu is newly pregnant and her condition is stable. You and Mom can come over in a while. When Mom comes, she and Ziyu’s mother can take turns taking care of her.”
Tan Yue quickly replied, "Besides, there are some things that need to be taken care of at the company recently. It won't be too late for you and Mom to come after I've arranged my work."
"That's fine. You must keep a close eye on things and call us anytime if anything happens," Tan Zhaohe instructed. "If Ziyu wants to eat anything from home, just tell us and we'll send it to you."
"Okay, Dad, don't worry." Tan Yue hung up the phone, her heart filled with warmth.
The care and concern from both sets of parents made him feel incredibly happy and gave him even more motivation to take good care of Chen Ziyu and the baby.
Lunch was ready quickly, and Tan Yue brought the dishes to the table.
He helped Chen Ziyu to the dining table, ladled her a bowl of soup, and picked up a piece of sea bass, carefully removing the bones before putting it in her bowl: "Try it quickly and see if it suits your taste. If you think it's bland, I'll add some salt for you."
Chen Ziyu took a sip of the soup. The warm soup slid down her throat, and the discomfort in her stomach lessened a lot. She smiled and said, "It's delicious, even better than what you get at restaurants."
Hearing her praise, Tan Yue smiled happily, poured himself a bowl of soup, and slowly drank it.
The two chatted about their baby's future and the arrangements for their parents' visit while eating, creating a warm atmosphere at the table.
After dinner, Tan Yue wouldn't let Chen Ziyu help clear the dishes, telling her to go back to the living room to rest, while he stayed in the kitchen to wash the dishes.
He hummed a song as he washed the dishes, his joy overflowing like a spring.
He looked at the sunlight outside the window, thinking about the new life that was about to arrive in his family, and the scene of his family's happy life in the future. The smile on his lips never faded.
After cleaning up the kitchen, Tan Yue went to the living room and saw Chen Ziyu asleep on the sofa, holding her phone with pictures of the nursery on the screen.
He walked over quietly, took a thin blanket, and carefully covered her with it. He then took the phone from her hand, locked the screen, and placed it on the coffee table next to her.
Tan Yue sat on the sofa next to her, gazing tenderly at her sleeping face, his heart filled with happiness and contentment.
He knew that from this day forward, he had gained another identity—father.
This new identity filled him with immense responsibility, but also filled him with anticipation for the future. (End of Chapter)
