Chapter 4935 [Miaoyuan Bodhisattva]

"That's right." Tathagata praised, "Then how about I confer the title of Bodhisattva on you?"

"Although you have great magical powers, you are only a Golden Immortal after all. Even if I give you the status of Buddha, you will not be able to bear it, and will instead bear a huge karma." Tathagata waved his hand and said, "But if I give you the status of Bodhisattva, there will be no problem. As long as you continue to make progress, I promise that you will become a Buddha in the future."

Buddhist practice emphasizes cause and effect. To become a Buddha, one must shoulder the huge cause and effect.

For example, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva made a great vow to become a Buddha, "I will not become a Buddha until hell is empty. I will not attain Bodhi until all sentient beings are saved."

Samantabhadra Bodhisattva also made ten great vows in order to attain Buddhahood. The first is to pay homage to all Buddhas, the second is to praise the Tathagata, the third is to make extensive offerings, the fourth is to repent of karma, the fifth is to rejoice in merits, the sixth is to request the Dharma to be turned, the seventh is to request the Buddha to stay in the world, the eighth is to always follow the Buddha’s teachings, the ninth is to always be kind to all living beings, and the tenth is to dedicate all merits to all.

It is precisely because these aspirations are difficult to achieve that it is so difficult for them to become Buddhas.

With Xiang Nan's current strength, it is more than enough to be conferred the status of Bodhisattva, but it is not enough to be conferred the status of Buddha. This will make him bear a huge cause and effect, so it is better for him to be a Bodhisattva first.

"Okay, your words are enough." Xiang Nan nodded.

He knew that when he reached the status of Tathagata Buddha, his words were not spoken in vain. As long as He promised him to become a Buddha in the future, he would definitely become a Buddha.

"Then which part am I responsible for?" he asked curiously again.

Like the gods in heaven, every Buddha, every Bodhisattva, and every Arhat in the Buddhist world has his or her own divine duties.

For example, Tathagata Buddha is the master of the Vassa world, Amitabha Buddha is the master of the Pure Land, Medicine Buddha is the master of the Lapis Lazuli world; Manjusri Bodhisattva is in charge of wisdom, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva is in charge of virtue, Guanyin Bodhisattva is in charge of relieving suffering, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is in charge of the netherworld...

"Since you don't want to give up your beloved wife Bai Suzhen, it means you still have trouble letting go of lust." Tathagata said with a smile, "How about you take charge of marriage? You will be responsible for arranging marriages for all those who come to me for marriage."

"Be in charge of marriage?!" Xiang Nan was stunned. "It doesn't seem that powerful. My magic power is so strong, why do you only let me be in charge of marriage?"

"This is actually a good job. There are so many infatuated men and resentful women in the world. Men should get married when they are old enough, and women should get married when they are old enough. There are more than tens of millions of people seeking marriage." Tathagata explained, "Every time you match a marriage, you can accumulate merit. Over the years, how much merit can you accumulate?"

"That makes sense." Xiang Nan nodded.

The more closely related a deity is to the people, the more faith there is in him, the more incense he burns, and the more merit he accumulates.

"Okay, from now on, you will be the Miaoyuan Bodhisattva of my Buddhist sect." Tathagata said immediately, and handed Xiang Nan two magic weapons.

One is the Three Lives Stone, and anyone whose name is written on the stone is destined to be together for three lives; the other is the Marriage Mirror, which can reflect the cause and effect of a man and a woman's love, whether they are a match made in heaven or doomed to fail in previous lives.

"Thank you, Lord Buddha." Xiang Nan said gratefully, "Then can my wife Bai Suzhen also achieve a positive result?"

"With her current practice, she will become a goddess of good karma." Tathagata said, and took out a lotus with two stems, "This magic weapon can resolve the karmic debts of couples, repair broken relationships, and protect couples with the same virtue and heart..."

"Thank you, Buddha." Xiang Nan nodded.

Afterwards, Xiang Nan told Bai Suzhen that he had joined the Buddhist sect and was conferred the title of Miaoyuan Bodhisattva, while she was conferred the title of Shanyuan Tiannu. Bai Suzhen was surprised and delighted to hear that she had achieved the right result.

You have to know that it is difficult for monsters to achieve enlightenment. They must first cultivate into human form and then continue to make progress before they can achieve enlightenment.

Now, thanks to Xiang Nan, she succeeded in her cultivation and was even named the Goddess of Good Fate. It was really amazing.

"Husband, this is great. I didn't expect that I could become an immortal so soon." She said excitedly. She had thought that it would take at least three to five thousand years to achieve immortality, but she didn't expect it to happen so quickly.

"What about Xiaoqing and Sanqi?" she then asked with concern.

"Since they are already in love, they still need to hone their skills in the mortal world for a while." Xiang Nan explained, "It doesn't matter. If we are destined to meet again in the future, we can save them."

Bai Suzhen nodded.

Afterwards, Xiang Nan, Bai Suzhen, Xiaoqing and Fahai bid farewell to each other in tears and went to Lingshan Mountain in the West with Tathagata.

The Lingshan Mountain in the West is magnificent, with dazzling golden light and endless scenery, which is truly an eye-opener.

Upon hearing that Xiang Nan and his companions had arrived, all the Bodhisattvas, Arhats, and Vajras came to greet them, "Congratulations, congratulations~"

Xiang Nan and Bai Suzhen greeted them one by one.

The Buddha then ascended to the throne, summoned eight Bodhisattvas, four Vajras, five hundred Arhats, three thousand Jiedis and others, and conferred the title of Miaoyuan Bodhisattva on Xiang Nan on the spot, in charge of the marriages in the world; and conferred the title of Shanyuan Goddess on Bai Suzhen, in order to maintain the harmony between husband and wife.

After hearing the Tathagata's conferment, all the Bodhisattvas, Arhats, Vajras and others congratulated each other again.

After receiving the positive result, Xiang Nan suddenly had auspicious clouds rising under his feet, Buddha's light appeared behind his head, and a red mark appeared between his eyebrows.

Xiang Nan knew that this red mark was the fruit of Buddhism, similar to the immortal seal in heaven.

Bai Suzhen was reborn, all her evil spirit disappeared, and she was no longer a demon, but a righteous deity of Buddhism, which naturally made her feel infinitely happy.

Afterwards, Xiang Nan and Bai Suzhen were placed on an unnamed mountain in Lingshan.

Although it is an unnamed mountain, it is actually larger than a planet.

As the saying goes, every flower is a pure land, every grain of sand is a world.

Xiang Nan named it Miaohe Mountain.

He then used his magic to build countless palaces and buildings on the mountain.

Subsequently, the Eight Classes of Heavenly Beings, the offering celestial maidens, and the guardian monasteries came to seek refuge, willing to respect the Bodhisattva Xiangnan as their master and to provide him with protection and offerings.

It turns out that there are eight classes of gods and dragons, such as Naga, Yaksha, Asura, Gandharva, Kinnara, etc.; the offering celestial beings, such as the incense-offering celestial being, the flower-offering celestial being, the water-offering celestial being, the flower-scattering celestial being, etc.; the protector monasteries, such as the Beautiful Sound Monastery, the Brahma Sound Monastery, the Heavenly Drum Monastery, the Wonderful Monastery, etc.... There are a huge number of them in the Buddhist world, which are equivalent to ordinary people in the secular world.

Although they are in the Buddha realm, they still have troubles and cannot live long. If they want to achieve the right result, they must have the support of noble people.

Therefore, whenever a new Buddha, Bodhisattva or Arhat is conferred in the Buddhist world, they will come with their elderly and children, hoping to receive protection.

Just like in ancient times, after passing the imperial examinations, many people would voluntarily surrender themselves in order to avoid corvee labor and taxes.
