Chapter 5026: 5029 [The Feud between Elves and Dwarves]
When Gandalf saw Xiang Nan's storage technique, his eyes widened in surprise.
If he was not mistaken, Xiang Nan's storage technique already involved the aspect of space.
This spell was obviously very advanced, even he had not mastered it.
After Xiang Nan packed all the luggage, everyone continued on their journey on horseback.
Halfway through the journey, we noticed that the sky quickly became overcast and it looked like a heavy rain was about to fall.
"It seems we need to find a place to shelter from the rain first." Balin said when he saw this.
Although the dwarf was strong and could withstand the erosion of rain, he was worried that the horses would get sick. If they caught a cold, it would really delay the journey.
"Keep moving forward and see if there's a suitable place to shelter from the rain ahead." Thorin nodded.
"Don't worry, just look at me." Xiang Nan said, snapping his fingers.
In an instant, the weather, which was originally cloudy and stormy, suddenly became clear and sunny with no clouds in the sky.
"Oh my God~" The dwarves were shocked again.
Gandalf was equally startled.
Because even if Maia wants to change the weather, it is not an easy task and requires a certain amount of divine power to do it.
Xiang Nan, however, can change the weather in the blink of an eye, an ability that even surpasses that of a god like him.
"Kili, which god is teaching you magic? This spell of changing the weather is not so easy to master." Gandalf asked doubtfully.
"He didn't tell me His name, and I couldn't see His appearance clearly. I only saw a ball of light with countless stars in it." Xiang Nan lied without hesitation.
"Incredible." Gandalf shook his head.
He thought about all the Valar and Maiar in Valinor, but could not figure out which god taught Xiang Nan magic.
On the one hand, because the War of Wrath almost destroyed Middle-earth, the gods rarely interfered directly in the affairs of Middle-earth since then;
On the one hand, even if these gods wanted to intervene, they rarely had the strength to do so. Because neither the Valar nor the Maiar were omnipotent, and their divine power was limited.
"Unless it is the omniscient and omnipotent Lord of the Gods, Ilúvatar." Gandalf suddenly thought, "But how is this possible? He rarely intervenes in the affairs of Middle-earth, and it is even more impossible for him to favor a dwarf so much."
Ilúvatar is the creator of the universe, the Valar, and the Maiar. He created the planet Arda, the elves, and humans.
But He seldom interfered directly with the planet Arda, but sent the Valar and Maiar to manage and guide it. Therefore, Gandalf believed that He would not favor a dwarf so much and teach him powerful spells in his dreams.
But if it wasn't Ilúvatar, then who could it be? Could there be a true god in the universe that he didn't know about?
Gandalf dared not imagine any further.
……
Because the weather was good, it was easy for everyone to travel. By dusk, they arrived at an abandoned farmhouse.
"Well, we'll stay here tonight," Thorin said. "Nori and Ori will take care of the horses. Oin and Gloin will find some firewood to start a fire..."
"I suggest we go a little further." Gandalf looked at the abandoned farmhouse and sensed a hint of worry. "We can go to the 'Hidden Valley'." Because this farmhouse was obviously abandoned not long ago, and from the overturned roof and collapsed walls it was obvious that the farmhouse had been attacked.
It could be an orc, or a troll, or a warg. In short, this place is not safe.
"I've already told you, I won't go near that place." Thorin refused firmly.
The Hidden Valley, also known as Rivendell, also known as Imladris, is the territory ruled by the half-elf Elrond.
Elrond is the owner of "Veyar", one of the three rings of the elves. He relies on the power of Veya to maintain the peace and tranquility of Rivendell.
Later, with the destruction of the One Ring, all three elven rings lost their power, so the elves decided to leave Middle-earth collectively and go to the holy land of the elves, Aman where the Valar and Maia lived.
The reason why Thorin resisted going to the elves' territory was because there was an old feud between the dwarves and the elves.
It turns out that the dwarves and the elves were good allies back then. The dwarves helped the elves build Nargothrond, their home. In order to thank the dwarves for their help, the Elf King Finrod gave them a large number of treasures brought from Valinor.
In order to repay Finrod's generosity, the dwarf craftsmen worked hard to create a necklace called "Nauglamir" as a gift to Finrod.
The necklace was extremely exquisite and inlaid with many precious gems, making it magnificent and beautiful.
Later, when the Nauglamir was passed to the Elf King Thingol, he wanted to set the Silmarils in the necklace, so he commissioned the dwarves to work on it.
But the dwarves were tempted by the light of the Silmaril and intended to seize the priceless necklace. So the dwarves killed the Elf King Thingol and took away Nauglamir. But they were killed later and the necklace was taken back by the elves.
However, two dwarves escaped the elves' pursuit. After returning to their kingdom, they exaggerated the cause of the incident and made it appear that the elves were greedy for money, killed the dwarves and stole the necklace.
So the Dwarf Kingdom sent out a large army to fight a great war with the Elves. Both sides suffered casualties, and as a result, they developed a feud and became almost irreconcilable opponents.
In addition, when the evil dragon Smaug attacked the dwarf capital of Erebor, Thranduil, the Elf King of Mirkwood, led his army to the Lonely Mountain, but they did not lend a helping hand to the fleeing dwarves.
Because of this, Thorin was filled with hatred for the elves, including the hatred for thousands of years ago and Elendil's failure to save them hundreds of years ago.
Therefore, because he hated the elves, he was unwilling to step into the elves' territory.
……
"Why not? We can rest there, replenish our energy and get advice." Gandalf persuaded earnestly.
"I don't need advice from the elves." Thorin still refused.
"We have a map that we can't understand. Lord Elrond can help us." Gandalf continued to persuade.
There are still some secrets on his map that have not been solved.
"Help? Did the elves help when the dragon attacked Erebor? When the orcs raided Moria and desecrated the temple, the elves just stood by and watched." Thorin said excitedly, "And now you want me to go find those who betrayed my grandfather and my father?"
His hatred for the elves was even as great as his hatred for Smaug. Smaug had taken away his homeland, so he hated him to the core.
But the elves did nothing to help and just stood by and watched, which made him feel even more chilling.
"But you are different from both of them. I didn't give you the map and the key so that you would cling to the past." Gandalf finally advised.
"The key and the map were not yours originally." Thorin said coldly.
Gandalf was finally defeated by him and ran away angrily.
