Chapter 5149-5152 [Forming an Adventure Team]
Xiang Nan glanced around the bar and quickly found his target, then walked over to him.
The man was speaking to several soldiers, saying, "Even in Africa, I've never seen such high quality. We'll make a fortune in our hands. It's me, my uncle, and an African prince..."
"Which prince?" Xiang Nan interjected.
The man looked up at him and immediately recognized Xiang Nan. "I forgive your rudeness, please let me continue..."
"Seriously, which country's prince? Sudan, Angola, or some other country?" Xiang Nan continued to ask with a smile.
"Can we talk in private for a moment?" Seeing that Xiang Nan was persistent, the man had no choice but to say goodbye to the soldiers, pull Xiang Nan aside, and complain to him in a low voice, "I almost fooled them just now, and I was about to make a quick buck from them. What are you doing, interfering?"
It turns out he was a shrewd conman who was just about to sell some fake gemstones to these clueless soldiers. But Xiang Nan's interference could easily ruin his business.
Because deception is a very delicate art, a single wrong word, or even an incorrect expression or tone of voice, can arouse suspicion in the other party.
Therefore, Xiang Nan's meddling just now almost certainly ruined his deal.
“We need your help with something important,” Xiang Nan said, bringing Diana over with him.
"My God, my God, she's a work of art." The man's eyes widened the moment he saw Diana, and he stared at her without blinking.
“Samir, this is Diana. Diana, this is Samir,” Xiang Nan introduced them.
“Call me 'Sammy',” Sammy said familiarly, and even tried to hug Diana.
"No, no, don't do anything improper," Xiang Nan advised.
“Samir is a top-notch undercover agent. He’s eloquent and, like you, speaks multiple languages,” Xiang Nan explained.
“He doesn’t seem like much of a threat,” Diana remarked in Spanish, sizing up Samir.
“I think you’re about the same,” Samir replied in Spanish, then complimented Diana in French, “Your eyes are as gentle as your smile.”
“And your eyes are full of greed, tell me what you want?” Diana asked in Chinese.
“I also speak Chinese, young lady,” Samir said in Chinese as well, but in Xiang Nan’s opinion, both of their Chinese was quite poor.
"Can you recite Socrates' twelve lines in ancient Greek?" Diana then asked in ancient Greek.
Samuel immediately went silent.
He was proficient in common languages, but ancient Greek was no longer spoken, so how could he possibly learn it?
"OK, you guys are done?" Xiang Nan clapped his hands and said, "Now let's get down to business. Where's Charlie?"
"There!" Samir pointed into the distance, where a burly man was beating up a skinny man deep inside the bar.
He punched the skinny man relentlessly, leaving him completely defenseless.
"At least Charlie's fists are decent," Diana commented upon seeing this.
Judging solely from his fighting prowess, this burly man is quite formidable.
“No, no, that’s not Charlie,” Xiang Nan said, shaking his head.
“Yes, the one who got hit is the one.” Samir nodded, and saw that skinny Charlie had already been knocked to the ground by the strong man’s punch.
……
Xiang Nan and Samir then went over and helped Charlie up.
Although Charlie was beaten black and blue, he was still relatively lucid. "Oh, Steve, long time no see~" "Yeah, I have important business to discuss with you." Xiang Nan nodded and pulled Samir and Charlie to sit down. "Boss, three glasses of whiskey."
"Why were you beaten up just now?" Diana asked curiously.
"I accidentally took his glass by mistake; mistakes are inevitable," Charlie explained.
However, Xiang Nan knew that he hadn't actually taken the wrong wine; he had deliberately stolen it to drink.
“This person is not a warrior at all,” Diana said, shaking her head.
Charlie is probably not a formidable fighter, let alone compared to the Amazons, or even compared to other humans.
“Charlie is a sniper,” Samir explained for Charlie.
"It means he was an extremely accurate shooter, able to hit his opponents from a great distance, so much so that they didn't even know how they died," Xiang Nan explained.
"How do you know who you're hitting if you can't see their faces?" Diana asked, puzzled.
“I didn’t want to know anyway, but believe me, this is actually more beneficial,” Charlie said to Diana.
Xiang Nan understood what he meant. Unless one is a born killer, killing is not a pleasant experience for anyone.
Therefore, many people who have been on the battlefield are prone to PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), and this is true throughout history and across the world.
Snipers, who snipe enemies from a distance, cannot see their faces or witness their gruesome deaths, so their chances of developing PTSD are relatively low.
"Your fight is utterly dishonorable," Diana commented.
The Amazons highly value honor, believing that dying honorably on the battlefield is the highest honor.
Therefore, even though they were skilled in archery and hand-to-hand combat, they disdained sneak attacks and assassinations, always preferring to fight their enemies openly and honestly. Even if they died in battle, they would not regret it.
"Who's going to pay for my honor?" Charlie said dismissively.
……
"So what's the mission this time, boss?" Samir asked Xiang Nan.
"This mission will take about two days. We need to prepare supplies and travel permits to Belgium," Xiang Nan explained.
"What's the salary? It'd be best to offer a good price," Samir followed up with his question.
“Here’s the situation.” Xiang Nan smiled awkwardly, then explained to Samir, “This journey is short, but you will gain a lot. It’s for a noble cause, freedom, friendship, and to end the war.”
"Freedom? Friendship?" Samir smiled slightly. "So there's no reward?"
Xiang Nan nodded.
“Alright, if you don’t have money, then don’t say anything more,” Samir refused, then looked at Diana, “Right now, all I want is a picture of this beauty.”
“You don’t need my photo, I’ll go with you,” Diana said with a smile.
"What? What do you mean?" Samir asked, puzzled.
"Our mission this time is to take her to the front line," Xiang Nan explained.
"What?!" Charlie exclaimed in surprise. "I don't want to go looking for my own death just to send a girl to the battlefield."
He knew all too well how cruel war was, and that he could be killed at any moment. This wasn't a playground for girls, nor a tourist destination.
Moreover, they weren't even getting paid this time, which made him even less willing to take the risk.
