Chapter 820
“Mr. Lockhart.” A burly, middle-aged professor with a full beard, but who looked very strong, said softly to Gilderoy Lockhart.
And Gilderoy Lockhart—
One of Tiera's avatars was reclining in the back seat of the lead jeep, dozing off.
Hearing someone call her name, Tierra opened her eyes and curiously looked at Neilson Hadley, an astronomy professor from the University of Sydney, who was sitting next to her.
"What is it, Professor Hadley?" Tierra asked, maintaining a respectful attitude.
“Hehe, it’s like this, Mr. Lockhart, about fifty kilometers south of here is George Crater,” Jonathan Hadley said, rubbing his hands together somewhat sheepishly. “It’s a huge ring-shaped uplift, about 22 kilometers in diameter, formed by a meteorite impact event approximately 1.4 million years ago. My colleagues all felt it would be a waste to come all this way and not investigate it. So we thought…”
“If you want to go and investigate, then go ahead.” Tierra raised her eyelids, sat up a little straighter, and looked in the direction Jonathan Hadley had indicated.
About 57 kilometers away, there was indeed a huge ring-shaped mountain area.
But what Tierra saw was not just a huge crater area; in his eyes, all the scenes in the George crater area were regressing to the negative axis of the time coordinate with the "modern" point in time.
-
Ten years ago: This was a bustling scene. As this area was discovered and developed, tourists, scientists, and of course, hordes of explorers flocked to it. The past decade was a golden age for Australia's development. The Yalta system established during World War II allowed this resource-rich nation to benefit from the victories. Australia's economy and industry developed rapidly, and people's lives began to improve. As a result, more people began to utilize Australia's rugged geography for daily recreational activities, such as exploring geological wonders like the George Crater.
-
100 years: As time passed, the landscape changed dramatically. The crater was no longer a bustling, thriving place, but a desolate wasteland. Sandstorms raged, the wind rustled through the grass, and the ground was riddled with cracks and rock fragments. Tierra occasionally saw small animals and creatures appear in the scene, but they quickly disappeared into the crevices of the rocks, into the dry grass, or beneath the desolate sands of the desert.
-
1000 years ago: The landscape of the crater became even more desolate, with almost no trace of human activity remaining. Yet, even in this barren land, a group of Australian Aboriginal people still came to worship. To them, the crater was not merely a geographical feature, but a sacred mountain, the cradle of their mythical gods.
Every year on the winter solstice, during the longest night of the year, the indigenous people gather around the crater, huddled around a campfire, and chant ancient songs. In this era, the crater area was filled with primitive religious rituals and sacrificial activities. The indigenous people respected nature, worshipped the sacred power symbolized by the crater, and believed it could protect them from disasters and dangers.
-
Ten thousand years later: The landscape of the crater zone has undergone an incredible transformation. It is no longer a desolate and lifeless wasteland, but a vibrant new life. Vegetation begins to cover the land again, small animals frolic in the grass, and birds circle overhead. Tiera sees flowing water in the distance, a result of geological changes near the crater zone that have rekindled underground water sources.
-
Between 1 and 1.4 million years ago: During this long period, the crater zone underwent various geological, climatic, and biological evolutionary processes. From the initial regeneration of vegetation to the flourishing of flora and fauna, and then to the establishment and evolution of ecosystems, this area witnessed the vigorous development and diversity of life on Earth.
-
1.4 million years ago: During the Cretaceous period, a medium to large dinosaur, later named Spinosaurus, occupied this plain before the formation of the crater. These enormous creatures dominated this ancient land, roaming the grasslands and forests in search of food and safe habitat.
With their powerful bodies and sharp teeth, they were apex predators in the food chain of this region. They frequently engaged in fierce hunts on this plain, chasing other dinosaurs or ancient herbivores.
Then one day—
A massive meteorite fell from the sky, like a blazing sun descending upon the land, crashing with devastating force onto the surface of the Cretaceous period Earth.
A massive shockwave swept across, instantly turning the once-hard ground into a turbulent sea of rocks that spread outwards, engulfing everything in its path.
Tiera stopped paying attention to the changing terrain and looked up.
Time continued to rewind, and the meteorite flew back into the air from the ground, reversing its trajectory.
It flew out of Earth and headed towards its origin in the depths of the universe.
“Sigh, it’s just an ordinary meteorite.” Tierra sighed. “What? Mr. Lockhart?” Jonathan Hadley didn’t understand Tierra’s words, and it felt as if it was hallucinating.
“No, it’s nothing,” Tierra said with a smile. “If you want to go, then go ahead.”
But his eyes remained fixed on the meteorite from 1.4 years ago.
“But we might spend half a day to a day and still not know,” Jonathan Hadley said somewhat guiltily.
"No, it's nothing. Maybe this exploration will uncover something new." Tiera smiled calmly.
If we go back 1.5 million years, the meteorite was more than three times the size it was when it hit Earth.
It drifts aimlessly in the void of space, 0.00046 light-years away from Earth.
Suddenly, without warning, this meteorite moved 3 light-years across the universe and arrived at an inconspicuous dark planet in what later human astronomers called ST-2397.
The meteorite struck the surface of the dark planet with pinpoint accuracy.
The immense impact caused the entire planet to tremble, and dark energy fluctuations spread throughout the universe.
However, just as the meteorite fell, it suddenly disappeared, returning to its original trajectory and leaving a deep mark.
At the site of the impact, an Old One awoke from his long slumber.
His figure appeared and disappeared in the darkness, like a shadowy figure in the darkness, but his anger could not be hidden.
He roared angrily, looking around for the attacker, but to no avail.
On the planet's surface, silence returned. The dark planet remained shrouded in endless black mist, with only the roars of the Great Old Ones echoing in the night sky, as if proclaiming their presence and power to the universe.
“Then let’s go,” Tiera from the modern era said calmly. “We’re sure to make some new discoveries.”
