Chapter 1506 Behind the Scenes
"Bang bang~"
Late at night, the sound of a clapper rang out outside the Shuangqing Hotel in the mountain city. The night watchman slowly walked away, and a curtain on the second floor was lifted and then quickly lowered.
"Levy, is there anything unusual?"
Inside the room, a middle-aged white man asked the man standing by the window what had just happened, explaining that the man had been checking the situation outside.
Levi shook his head, glanced out the window again, and replied, "Everything is normal, Captain Moses."
"Okay, we must be careful. The Kuomintang's Military Intelligence Bureau is very professional. We can't make any mistakes."
The middle-aged white man, known as Captain Moses, looked solemn. If this mission hadn't been so important, he really wouldn't have wanted to deal with the notorious Military Intelligence Bureau.
Compared to its counterpart, Hagana, which has been established for less than five years, is as immature as a child who has not yet been weaned.
As the foreign intelligence agency of the Zionist organization, Haganah has done a good job in the Middle East, but dealing with desert herders and dealing with professional agents are two completely different concepts.
Levy curled his lip upon hearing this. In his mind, apart from the British Military Intelligence Bureau, the Russian KN-VD, and the US Office of Strategic Services, they were no less capable than anyone else.
He muttered to himself, "If the Military Intelligence Bureau is really that powerful, why was the Republic of China's government army defeated by the Japanese?"
"Those damned people of the Republic of China, if it weren't for their opposition, the pufferfish plan might have succeeded."
As a staunch Zionist, Levi deeply hated the Republic of China's intelligence agencies for undermining the secret Jewish-Japanese covenant, which is why he volunteered to participate in this mission.
Moses frowned slightly. Arrogance and underestimating the enemy are major taboos for intelligence personnel. If others think like Levy, they will be in danger this time.
However, with the operation imminent, reprimanding Levy now could easily affect morale, and since Levy's father was a high-ranking member of the organization, Moses could only offer a brief reminder.
"Remember, we are on the territory of the Republic of China. The forces they can mobilize are many times greater than ours. It's always good to be careful."
Without waiting for Levi's rebuttal, he stepped over to check the other rooms. The entire hotel had been booked by Hagana, with a total of 20 operatives staying in ten rooms.
To Moses' relief, most of the operatives remained vigilant and did not relax their surveillance of him.
After inspecting the inn, Moses returned to bed, preparing to relieve Levy on night watch later that night. The room gradually became quiet.
As night deepened, the streets were completely deserted, and the entire mountain town was plunged into darkness under air raid control. Levi looked outside and yawned.
Two blocks away, Gui Youguang handed some weapons to Skorzeny, while giving him instructions.
“My men are waiting outside the hotel. If your operation fails, they will go in and eliminate all targets. Do you understand?”
Skorzeny nodded. All the targets included him. He either killed all the Jews or died here. There was no other way.
Gui Youguang glanced at his watch and made a bet with the other person: "How long do you think it will take you? I bet twenty minutes."
“No, I’ll bet ten minutes.” Skorzeny pulled out his last $10 and slapped it into Gui Youguang’s palm before turning and walking toward the Shuangqing Hotel.
As he was about to step into the night, Gui Youguang suddenly said, "Leave one alive; we need to gather information about the Jews."
Skorzeny waved his hand, his figure quickly disappearing into the darkness, a long-lost excitement welling up in his heart.
Since Germany's defeat, he had been on the run, fearing discovery by Allied pursuers, and had not engaged in a single decent battle during that time.
This was both a blessing and a curse for a former soldier.
Skorzeny took a deep breath and quickly moved to the street corner, using the eaves and buildings for cover. He peeked at the hotel in the distance and immediately found several blind spots.
Shuangqing Hotel is located halfway up the mountain, surrounded by residential areas, and the nearest police station is two kilometers away.
Under normal circumstances, choosing this place as a base of operations would be a good idea, as it would be easy to escape if captured. However, the Jews forgot that this was a mountain city.
In the mountainous town with its many steep slopes, the visibility halfway up the mountain is extremely poor. In addition, the houses are too close together, making it impossible for surveillance personnel to fully observe the entire area.
This shows that the Judahans lacked experience; a qualified agent should have a thorough understanding of the terrain features of the mission location.
Skorzeny tilted his head and looked around, then mentally constructed an infiltration route. Taking advantage of the moon being shrouded in dark clouds, he bent down, crawled out of the alley, and climbed into the hotel.
Dozens of meters away, Gui Youguang watched this scene, his eyebrows raised, he felt he was about to lose.
These Judas agents are even more amateurish than the traitors of the 76th Division. It seems that Skorzeny will be able to complete the mission in less than twenty minutes.
He glanced down at his luminous watch; the minute hand was ticking rapidly. There was no sound coming from the direction of the Shuangqing Hotel, except for a few barks that broke the surrounding silence.
Eight minutes later, three flashlight beams pierced the second floor of the hotel. Gui Youguang's eyes lit up, and he whispered to his men, "Let's go!"
The agents immediately formed a combat formation and cautiously approached the hotel. Just as they reached the vicinity of the gate, the junior agent smelled a faint scent of blood.
A team of agents rushed into the room first, while Gui Youguang led his men to observe from the outside. Although Skorzne gave a security signal, it was always better to be safe than sorry.
A few minutes later, a junior agent returned to report that they had taken control of the hotel. Only then did Gui Youguang enter the main entrance. The agent's flashlight beam swept across the counter, revealing an unconscious waiter slumped on it, his mouth gagged with a cloth and his hands tied behind his back.
Two white corpses lay on the hall floor, their throats slit, blood seeping from their wounds and spreading outwards along the cracks in the floor tiles, creating a gruesome scene.
Gui Youguang calmly walked past the corpses, then climbed up to the second floor. More corpses appeared in the corridor, all of them killed by cold weapons.
He crouched down to examine the body closely and discovered that one of the victims had a fatal neck wound and a collapsed chest.
Looking at the location of the body again, Gui Youguang seemed to see Skorzeny killing the man.
The deceased and Skorzen collided head-on in the corridor. To prevent the other from shouting, Skorzen punched the Jewish man in the lung, causing the deceased to suffer diaphragmatic spasm and temporary loss of voice.
What happened next was simple: the victim was stabbed in the throat and collapsed at the doorway of the room.
Gui Youguang clicked his tongue in amazement. Such a fast reaction speed, such fierce moves. Skorzeny's fighting style was even more ruthless than in Cairo.
The moment the thought crossed his mind, Skorzeny came out of the room, dragging a prisoner along with him.
"The guy you want alive is someone who shares a room with the head of the Judah agents; his identity is definitely not simple. Do you need my help with the interrogation?"
Skorzeny asked casually, then pushed the bound prisoner to the ground. Gui Youguang smiled but did not answer, turning to look at the Jewish man who was full of dissatisfaction.
The next second, he signaled to the junior agent to control the prisoner, then drew a dagger from his waist and placed it on the prisoner's fingers.
"what!!!"
A scream rang out as a piece of flesh was sliced off the prisoner's finger, the wound so deep that bone was visible.
The intense pain caused the prisoner to struggle desperately, but four or five junior agents held him firmly by the shoulders, while Skorznee watched with a smile.
While shaving his flesh, Gui Youguang asked in English, "Tell me your name and position, or you will die a painful death."
“Ah! I said, my name is Levi, and I am a senior member of the Haganah branch of Mossad.”
Levi lost his former arrogance and, having personally experienced torture, realized that he was not as strong as he had imagined.
Gui Youguang did not stop, continuing to slowly and deliberately whittle the other person's fingers while asking more questions.
What is the specific scope of Mossad's work?
"What is your mission for this trip?"
Levy's voice was already hoarse from shouting, but he still mustered his strength to reply: "Mossad is responsible for smuggling immigrants into disputed areas, purchasing weapons, and collecting intelligence overseas."
"We came to the mountain city this time to secretly capture Skorzeny. He has the coordinates of the German treasure, which is the wealth of the Jewish people."
Gui Youguang memorized this information, then sliced off another large chunk of flesh, letting out a cold sneer of mockery.
"Your wealth? I don't think the French and the Red Russians would agree with that. Now, answer me, how do you know there's intelligence about treasure in Skorz?"
As he spoke, he increased the force of his knife strike. Levi was in so much pain that he could no longer scream, and could only lower his head and weakly reply.
"Mossad has moles inside Germany. The moles gave us a list of people who have access to the treasure, on the condition that we give them one-third of it after we dig it up."
Skorzeny was furious. Very few people knew about the list, and every single one of them was a staunch supporter of the Führer. Who was betraying him?
Although he also told the Military Intelligence Bureau about the treasure, it was for survival, and he did not harm anyone.
"You despicable bastard!"
"Rude man! Liar!"
"Tell me quickly, who exactly is the mole!"
Skorzeny demanded angrily, and Levi, after a few seconds of confusion, uttered a name: "Glen, Reinhard Glenn."
Upon hearing the name, Skorzeny froze on the spot. After a long while, he sighed and became dejected.
Reinhard Grün, the head of German intelligence on the Western Front, had worked with Skorzeny on numerous occasions, and the two were longtime friends.
Skorzeny suspected everyone except Reinhard Glenn, and the feeling of being betrayed by someone you trusted was truly unpleasant.
Levy continued to confess, saying that Glenn was backed by the U.S. Office of Strategic Services, which was why he was able to evade capture.
Levy was unsure what deal Glenn had with the Office of Strategic Services, but it was likely related to their European strategy.
It's an American again!
Gui Youguang felt an inexplicable sense of irritation. Why were there Americans everywhere? Were these people going to start a new world war?
He made arrangements for Skorzeny and the prisoners, then immediately drove back to the Military Intelligence Bureau headquarters, as this matter needed to be reported to his deputy as soon as possible.
