Chapter 1446, Section 6: Transmission of the Daoist Lineage
Qianming Jietian entered the Dao through literature, and what he governed was the learning of the sages.
As for who this saint is, there are differing opinions among the people.
The philosophy of mind practiced by the Si Que clan revered the sage Danqiu, emphasizing literacy, introspection, and spiritual connection through literature to strengthen the primordial spirit. Only when the primordial spirit is strong can one discern the rules and truths of the world and apply them.
Furthermore, the book also vehemently criticizes the opposing Neo-Confucian school. These scholars do not venerate the sage Danqiu, but instead revere the principles of heaven and earth as sacred, taking it upon themselves to explore the origins and changes of all things, pursuing doctrines vastly different from those of Danqiu. Therefore, within the school of mind, they are condemned as heretics. At least throughout the entire Jinlai Kingdom, Neo-Confucian scholars are not permitted to travel or preach.
Beyond psychology, there are also some Hinayana schools in the wilderness that call themselves the Way of Qi or the Way of Body. They mainly rely on consuming external elixirs in the hope of nourishing their essence and strengthening their bodies. Even if they are lucky enough to establish a foundation, they have no Taoist methods to rely on for their subsequent cultivation.
This is because the "Heavenly Dao" of the Qianming Realm is fundamentally different from that of the Three Thousand Worlds. The methods of Xuanmen Daoist cultivation are not applicable to this realm.
However, most of the above schools of thought focus on humans. In this world, there are also mountain spirits, monsters, and demons. When these spirits are recorded in travelogues and miscellaneous books, they are called the offspring of the Great Sage of the White Moon. Therefore, they hide during the day and come out at night, and are feared by everyone.
Zhao Chun secretly rubbed her forehead, thinking to herself that within the Qianming Realm, the title of Sage had been given to three places. Among them, the Sage of Principle was unclear and was just a vague symbol. The Great Sage of White Moon was even more of a demon lord, which made Zhao Chun feel somewhat repulsed. She couldn't help but think of the huge figure that attacked the Southern Heavenly Sea back then.
"Looking at it this way, only the Danqiu Sage of the Mind School can still make contact with him. I wonder what kind of connection this person has with the master of this realm."
Then, after reading further, having finished these general remarks, they finally got to the topic of inspiring the literary tradition.
However, the cultural lineage here is not a meridian, but rather a kind of existence like the primordial spirit of the Purple Mansion. It is a direct enlightenment of the primordial soul, which transcends physical cultivation and takes a single word from a sage and keeps it in the heart to cultivate one's own spirit and achieve a state where nothing exists outside the heart.
Furthermore, because the scriptures used to inspire the literary tradition were different, the texts taken down were naturally quite different. For example, the primer in Zhao Chun's hands was a common object that had been widely circulated. By reading this scripture and entering the Dao, all he sought was a state of "peace".
Therefore, it's not a matter of suitability or unsuitability, but rather success or failure. After all, in this vast world, the vast majority of people are still immersed in the mundane world, and the truly superior scriptures and theories are stored within aristocratic families and the four great academies. To obtain even a single word is already a great fortune, and one dares not covet more.
As for what Si Queyi said, if one enters the Dao through the family's teachings, one will eventually belong to the Si Que clan, this statement should be true.
The classic texts passed down by aristocratic families did not come out of thin air, but were passed down through generations of scholars. Each generation of great scholars would compile their learning into classics and books to enrich the family's collection. Later generations would study them repeatedly, gaining insights and then writing new books, thus creating a cycle that ensured the prosperity of the clan and the continuation of its literary tradition.
Even if someone steals knowledge, what they gain is only superficial. If they want to make cultivation easier in the future, they will have to return to their original family in order to obtain the later texts from the Sique family.
Although the four major academies, including Gushe Academy, adhere to the principle of education for all, if one were to enter them for cultivation, one would likely have to assume the title of student and enrich their collection of books.
Zhao Chun nodded secretly, then closed the book again. As soon as she closed her eyes, she felt that she had memorized all the contents of the book, and there was nothing she did not understand or could not comprehend.
"My primordial spirit has already reached the Divine Realm. These mere introductory scriptures are nothing more than fooling children. This literary lineage..."
Her Purple Mansion had already opened, and her primordial spirit was stable, so it was impossible for her to enlighten her soul again. All she could do was recite scriptures and incorporate the character "平" (peace) from the book into her mind, thereby releasing a little divine consciousness to create the illusion of enlightening the literary path. This would at least be enough to deceive those whose cultivation was inferior to hers.
"That's it." Zhao Chun looked inward at his Purple Mansion, but there were no characters within, only a single point of divine light, floating in the vast Niwan Palace, so faint as to be almost nonexistent. But within this Qianming Realm, ordinary people who possessed even this single point could be transformed, rising to the ranks of scholars. From then on, they would be exempt from taxes and corvée labor, able to hold official positions in the imperial court, bestow titles upon their families, or travel far and wide, living a life of wealth and leisure.
Even the lowest-ranking ninth-grade scholar is qualified to open a school and teach students, let alone others.
Zhao Chun put down the book, her mind filled with thoughts of how, within the Qianming Realm, the difference between ordinary people and scholars was far less significant than that between mortals and Taoist cultivators. The latter were limited by their spiritual roots; those without spiritual roots were either completely cut off from the path to immortality or forced to cultivate the mortal path. However, this so-called mortal path was incomparable to proper Taoist cultivation; it was the lowest of the low.
The Sage's Philosophy of the Qianming Realm, though seemingly quite demanding, is actually impartial and does not divide people into two factions like the Spiritual Root, which is enough to show its power.
Seeing this, Zhao Chun dared not harbor any thoughts that her own methods were superior to others. Instead, a clever idea struck her. She thought to herself that although she was a member of the Daoist sect, the Daoist traditions of this world might not be without merit. If she could learn more in the future, she might as well learn from their strengths and make up for her own weaknesses to improve herself. She roused herself, closed her eyes again, and meditated and regulated her breathing throughout the night.
This time, however, the matter that inspired the literary tradition could not be told to Si Queyi immediately. Instead, it had to be kept hidden for more than ten days before it could be revealed to the public.
This was because they were worried that Si Queyi and Yuezhu might leak the news, which would attract the attention of the Si Que clan.
It was twelve days later when the matter was informed to the Siqueyi.
Upon learning that Zhao Chun had mastered the literary path in just over ten days using a readily available primer, Si Queyi found it hard to believe. Only after personally verifying this and discovering that Zhao Chun indeed possessed a literary talent, could he exclaim repeatedly, "Miss Zhao is indeed no ordinary person. With this one word in her heart, she can be considered a ninth-rank scholar."
"Besides studying, one must also learn some self-defense techniques, firstly to guard against villains, and secondly to resist evil spirits."
Si Queyi pointed to the sky and said in a warning tone, "The sun shines on Danqiu, which is the compassionate heart of the sage illuminating all living beings. Therefore, during the daytime, demons and ghosts must retreat and not disturb the world. But when night falls, the white moon rises and the yin energy sinks. Demons and evil spirits in the clouds sneak down to the ground. If we scholars cannot hold fast to our original intentions, our souls will be devoured by these demons, and we will become like walking corpses, losing all our will."
"Some evil spirits feed on flesh and blood, devouring people at night and causing havoc in the region. This also requires us scholars to take action, slay the evil spirits, and save the people."
After saying that, she turned around, took out a few bamboo scrolls, nodded and said, "Now that Miss Zhao has mastered the arts, it is time to put self-defense methods on the agenda. I just don't know what you like. I only have internal cultivation methods to learn here. If you want to learn external methods, you will have to go to the armory in the manor to get weapons."
Zhao Chun accepted it with a smile, only then realizing that the scholars were roughly divided into two factions: inner and outer. Inner scholars emphasized the unity of mind and control of qi, and their techniques were similar to the spells of Taoist cultivators, including some thunder and fire spells. Outer scholars wielded swords and spears, and at the same time, they valued their physical bodies highly. Some of their divine weapons, forged from refined gold and cold iron, were probably no less powerful than Taoist magic weapons.
Moreover, there is no distinction between the internal and external methods. It is not that if one learns the external method, one cannot learn the internal cultivation method. Skilled scholars often master both. For example, Si Queyi is quite proficient in thunder incantations and has also learned swordsmanship. According to her, almost everyone in the clan school is like this, which is not uncommon.
Zhao Chun was even more satisfied and said that she had learned a set of sword techniques and had quite a bit of experience with them. Si Queyi was not surprised at all. Instead, he gave her a token so that Zhao Chun could use her name to obtain a fine sword from the clan.
Zhao Chun shook her head and refused, instead taking out a dark black longsword and gently stroking its blade, saying, "The road to learning is arduous, and I already have a sword by my side, so there is no need to take another one."
At first glance, the long sword appears to have a blade as clear as autumn water, almost reflecting a person's image. But upon closer inspection, one discovers its extreme sharpness and the chilling, murderous aura it exudes.
Si Queyi opened his eyes and thought that the quality of this sword was definitely worthy of being called a peerless divine weapon. At least the Flying Snow Sword in his hand, although it was worth a thousand gold pieces, was far inferior to the long sword in front of him.
Suppressing her envy, Si Queyi's expression changed slightly, and her tone became more serious as she said, "Miss Zhao, you must hide this precious sword carefully to avoid arousing envy and causing others to try to seize it by force. If someone from our family gets involved, I will not be able to help you."
"Miss Sique, rest assured, I have always cherished this and would never give it to anyone else."
Zhao Chun sheathed her magic sword and looked at Yue Zhu and the others. Si Queyi followed her gaze and saw the maids' somewhat listless and pale faces. He immediately understood and said, "There is one more thing. Now that Miss Zhao has mastered the literary path, why don't you come with me to the clan school to take a look?"
This was exactly what Zhao Chun wanted to do, so how could she refuse? She immediately cupped her hands in a gesture of refusal and agreed, "Of course I will go."
Si Queyi has been suffering greatly lately. Even though he tries to restrain himself, he is often caught making mistakes. Once he makes a mistake, his companions are punished. However, the punishment is not physical, but rather a whipping of the soul using a method similar to divine consciousness. Yuezhu and the others went one by one, and when they returned, they tried their best not to complain in front of Si Queyi. But as soon as they closed the door, they still felt dizzy and weak.
Those with ulterior motives harbor such thoughts. Seeing their companions suffering so much, anyone with a conscience would find it difficult to continue focusing on their studies. If this continues, after three years of failing the assessment, they will naturally have no choice but to return home.
Little did they know that this approach only made things difficult for Si Queyi and the others, but gave Zhao Chun an opportunity. (End of Chapter)
