After the divorce, I started to transfer

Chapter 1917 Deserved Punishment

As Chen Feng listened to Karl recount the whole story, his expression gradually turned serious.

He wasn't surprised that Carl knew about Lawrence's betrayal. Especially after Moore gave him the $1.5 million villa, Carl should have known all along.

Chen Feng had come to his territory, so it was impossible for him not to pay attention. And since he knew about Moore giving him the villa, it would be natural for him to contact Lawrence through Mr. Moore, and then find out about Lawrence's betrayal of Chen Feng.

If Carl can't even find this out, then he's not worthy of being called California's richest man.

In a place like the United States, once you have money, you inevitably get involved with politics and politicians. Someone with his current level of wealth can't possibly have no dealings with politicians; it's necessary, otherwise he'd be easy prey for them and other evil forces.

After listening to him finish speaking, Chen Feng asked somewhat seriously, "What exactly do you know? Can you tell me in detail?"

Carl nodded, his expression turning serious. "First of all, I still have to apologize to you. I really had no idea beforehand that Lawrence betrayed you, let alone expected it. As I just said, you did save his son, but he was ungrateful and betrayed you. Such a person is truly a treacherous villain, something no one expected."

"After Moore from Wall Street gave you a villa, I had someone investigate and found out about his connection with Lawrence. Then I felt something was off because there was no reason for Moore to give you a villa worth hundreds of millions of dollars. So I roughly guessed that Moore must know your secret, and the reason he knew was because Lawrence told him."

"Actually, we all know that your secret about curing the disease can't be kept forever. Some people will find out sooner or later, especially wealthy people whose families have members suffering from serious illnesses. They'll inquire from various sources, and they'll probably find out eventually. I'm not surprised that Lawrence knew your secret and then told Moore. But I later found out that Lawrence actually tried to arrest you through his trusted men. For some reason, he later gave up. Even so, his actions are unforgivable."

Chen Feng was slightly surprised that he had investigated Karl so thoroughly. With such wealth, it would be impossible for Karl to have done so without some means, or rather, without strong connections and self-protection abilities. But the fact that he could investigate Lawrence's affairs so meticulously meant he must have more than just some means and connections. Furthermore, he must possess some hidden trump cards.

This naturally surprised Chen Feng, as he had previously underestimated Karl.

"Oh, I see." Chen Feng looked slightly surprised.

Then he said, “I seem to remember telling you that my intuition has always been very sharp, or rather, my sixth sense has always been very alert. I did have a vague feeling of danger before, so I took Brina and hid in the countryside for a few days. I didn’t return to Los Angeles until that feeling of danger disappeared. That’s why I didn’t go to see you at first, because at that time, I didn’t know who to trust. To be frank, I didn’t really trust you at the time either, so I chose to hide temporarily. Now it seems that my intuition was right. It must have been around that time that Lawrence became hostile towards me and sent people to try to capture me.”

“Yes.” Karl nodded, his eyes full of admiration. “Your feeling was right. You are indeed no ordinary person. Lawrence did harbor ill intentions towards you and sent one of his trusted men to try to arrest you, but he eventually withdrew the order. I found out about this, so I was very angry. Yesterday, I called him and gave him a good scolding, and I directly confronted him, saying that I would not let this go and that he should just wait and see.”

"Thank you so much for standing up for me," Chen Feng said, somewhat moved. "But won't this put you in a difficult position? After all, he is the Vice Minister of Justice, a high-ranking and powerful official, while you are just a businessman."

Carl waved his hand and said confidently, "Don't worry. Although I am a businessman, I am not a pure businessman. You should know that in America, rich people like us are the big donors of those politicians, and I am no exception. For decades, I have been continuously funding those politicians, and one of my relatives is even a senator, so I am not afraid of offending Lawrence."

"In fact, Lawrence is just a vulture. Although he has worked in the judicial system for two or three decades and has some connections, that's all he has. He's just lucky. He just happened to benefit from the current president's rise to power and became the deputy minister. After the current president steps down next year, he will be out of a job."

"Besides, Williams and I have already discussed this. We need to show him what we're capable of. Even if we can't fire him right away, we need to make him suffer and make him face obstacles at every turn at work. He'd better resign wisely, otherwise, if we catch him making even the slightest mistake, he'll be going to jail."

Seeing his confident demeanor, Chen Feng was no longer worried. Furthermore, Chen Feng activated his ability to foresee danger and made a prediction about him, which showed that there was unlikely to be any danger in the next three or four days, so he was completely at ease.

"Thank you. If I could, I would certainly hope that this guy suffers misfortune, or rather, loses his job. Anyway, thank you very much this time."

Chen Feng's words were sincere, after all, the other person was standing up for him. Even though he spoke with great confidence and in a relaxed tone, Chen Feng knew that the reality was definitely not that simple. Lawrence, as the Deputy Attorney General of the United States, held a high position of power, and besides, he certainly had connections.

Take Moore, for example. Although Lawrence had been somewhat incompetent before, he was still considered one of Moore's men. Chen Feng knew that the organization Moore represented had immense power; even Carl and Williams combined would have a tough time dealing with him.

“John, you’re too kind. I’ve said it before, we’re all family. I’ve always considered you one of my own. You were wronged, and even almost faced danger, so of course I’m angry.” Carl sighed, “Besides, I introduced Lawrence to you. I introduced his son to you for treatment. And I only charged him $500 million; the remaining $1.95 million in fees was actually paid by me. Can you imagine? I paid so much money for him, and this guy betrayed you. He showed no gratitude whatsoever for saving his son, let alone for all the money I paid for him. This guy is an ungrateful wretch. Even without your involvement, I had to settle things with him; otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to calm down.”

He was indeed quite frank with Chen Feng. Lawrence's betrayal of Chen Feng wasn't just about Chen Feng; it also concerned Carl's reputation as the middleman. There was also the large sum of money Carl had paid for Lawrence's medical consultations. His reason for advancing so much money for Lawrence was, of course, to cultivate a good relationship with him, hoping to gain his leniency or assistance in certain matters.

As a result, Lawrence betrayed Chen Feng, which not only humiliated him but also completely shattered his previous efforts to win him over, costing him so much money. This meant he had lost a significant amount of money for nothing. Even for a billionaire like him, that wasn't a small sum; more importantly, it was like throwing money away, which infuriated him.

Chen Feng understood what he meant, smiled and said, "It seems you made a very bad investment. I really didn't expect you to have paid so much money for him back then."

Carl nodded with a wry smile, "This was indeed a very poor investment. Actually, I was quite optimistic about Lawrence. After all, he's still relatively young and has been working in the judicial system for over 20 years. He might even go further in the future. Or, if he goes into politics, he'll at least start as a state legislator. So, I thought that by helping his son get treatment, he should be grateful to me and owe me a huge favor. But as you've seen, not only is he ungrateful, he's turned around and bit me. He really has no morals whatsoever."

Chen Feng smirked and said in a calm tone, "People like this rarely last long, and he will definitely receive his due punishment in the future."

Carl suddenly laughed and said, "You're right, this kind of person will indeed be punished by God. In fact, he has already been punished; both of his sons are still in the hospital."

"Oh? Is that so?" Chen Feng immediately became interested and asked, "Did his youngest son's depression relapse? And his eldest son, I've met him before, he seemed very healthy, how come he's suddenly in the hospital too?"

Carl laughed and said, "In my opinion, this must be God's punishment. Lawrence got what he deserved. Of course, he himself is fine for now, but his two sons suffered in his place. His eldest son, Job, I heard, suffered a stroke and a brain hemorrhage. Although he has regained consciousness, he is now paralyzed on one side."

"Lawrence valued his eldest son highly and originally wanted to groom him for a political career. He had already shown some promise and his eldest son was developing quite well. But with this incident, there is no doubt that it will be virtually impossible for his eldest son to enter politics in the future."

"His youngest son, Byron, the same patient with depression you treated last time, hasn't relapsed. Unfortunately, he was hit in the stomach by a stray bullet while walking, resulting in serious injuries. Although he survived, I heard the injuries are quite severe. So, even if he recovers, he may suffer significant long-term effects and could become sickly again. In fact, this injury and his current condition might even cause his depression to relapse. May God protect him."

Chen Feng shook his head, saying with a hint of sympathy, "Actually, I have a pretty good impression of his two sons. I can tell that his eldest son, Job, loves his brother, Byron, very much. Job even made a special trip to bring his brother here for treatment. As for his brother, Byron, he's actually a very kind person. Even when his girlfriend cheated on him and his friend slept with her, he didn't retaliate, and as a result, he became depressed."

He would rather suffer himself and become depressed than hurt others. Not everyone can do that. In fact, he had the right and the means to hurt others, after all, his father and brother were not ordinary people. He didn't do it, and I admire him for that. Even if God were to punish his father, I don't think He should punish his two sons, especially his younger son.

Carl shrugged and spread his hands, looking helpless. "You're right. His youngest son is indeed a very kind person, somewhat like my son Ian. They are both very sensitive and tender-hearted. Unfortunately, he has an ungrateful father, an immoral father, which is his greatest misfortune. As for Lawrence, in my opinion, he may be ruthless to anyone, but he must have feelings for his two sons, so God specifically punished them. It can only be said that he deserved it."

At this point, Carl paused for a moment, then continued, "I should remind you that Lawrence, because his two sons both got into trouble, and it's quite a coincidence, he might suspect you, thinking you're secretly retaliating against him. Although it sounds absurd, and I find it ridiculous, he does seem to have that suspicion."

"When I called him before, he directly asked me if I had secretly orchestrated all of this to get revenge on his two sons. Of course, I found it absurd and ridiculous, and I gave him a good scolding. But you know, as a father, when both of his sons have been killed like this, sometimes he loses his mind and thinks everyone is the murderer. So, I think you should be careful and go back as soon as you've finished things here. It will be safer for you to come back after Williams and I have taken this guy out of office."

Chen Feng frowned upon hearing this. He truly didn't understand why Lawrence would suspect him. However, he also had a vague feeling that this matter was indeed related to him. Lawrence might have escaped due punishment because of his position as a US government official, but his family had suffered for him.

His two sons were clearly his greatest concern, and the fact that both of them met with misfortune was obviously more painful for him than if something had happened to him himself. Therefore, what God arranged was truly fair.

Chen Feng didn't try to be tough in front of Karl, and readily nodded, saying, "You're right. It seems I need to go back soon. As soon as everything at the foundation is settled, I'll head back immediately."

Carl was pleased that Chen Feng listened to him and said with a smile, "Actually, you don't need to be too nervous. Although Lawrence has lost his mind a bit right now, he is still a mature person. Besides, you should have reached some kind of understanding or cooperation with that Mr. Moore, right? This Mr. Moore has enormous power and can make waves on Wall Street. To be honest, even I am a little afraid of this guy. So, unless Lawrence completely loses his mind, he won't dare to touch you. You are now considered one of Mr. Moore's men."

Chen Feng feigned curiosity and asked, "I don't actually know much about this Moore. I only know he's very influential and wealthy on Wall Street. He can even command Lawrence, but that's about it. Can you tell me more about him?" (End of Chapter)
