Chapter 3677 The Chain Reaction of Extravagant Charter Flights

Seeing that the plane would arrive at the airport in almost an hour, Zhao Chang'an suggested that Xiao Yangming sit in the airport coffee shop, to which Xiao Yangming readily agreed.

Only Zhao Chang'an, Yang Yixin, and Mina came to pick them up this time. Yang Yixin and Mina saw that it was still early, so they went to browse the nearby shops. Only Zhao Chang'an was there with nothing to do. As a result, he ran into Xiao Yangming, who had also arrived early and was also idle.

After reaching preliminary agreements with Ericsson regarding Bluetooth and 2.5G/3G technology licensing, Qiao Hang and his team spent two days in the Netherlands before returning to Los Angeles on a chartered flight.

The next step is for both parties to communicate for a period of time, and based on the functional data requirements of the Pro modules provided by OneNano North America, Ericsson needs to determine whether it can meet these thresholds. Then, they can negotiate the corresponding supply price, purchase quantity, and other matters, and sign a formal supply contract.

By now, the initial hardware architecture of the Pro phones was basically complete: a candybar design, color screen, trackball, built-in antenna, Bluetooth technology, 2.5G and 3G technology licenses, a miniature digital camera with dual front and rear cameras, infrared transmission, and more.

Zhao Chang'an is not prepared to discuss the main function chip yet, because he originally hoped to launch the Pro phone this year, but it seems unlikely that it will be launched by next spring.

Including the J-SH04 miniature camera production line introduced from Ericsson, Zhao Chang'an also requested that the domestic team and Ericsson continue to optimize it.

The purpose of purchasing the J-SH04 line is not to use it directly, but to first establish a stable cooperative line between North America and Ericsson in the 1nm process, while providing the domestic technical team with a real manufacturing line, so as not to be blindly groping in the dark and reinventing the wheel.

These all require a significant amount of time, funding, and personnel to tackle.

This led Zhao Chang'an to ultimately decide to abandon 2.5G phones and go straight to the research and development of 3G phones.

This choice also means that even if the Pro phone is produced, it will not be sold domestically for several years, but will be exported entirely.

Because China has only just launched 2.5G networks, it will be a long time before 3G networks are available for civilian use; it will likely be at least five or six years from now.

Currently, only NTT (Toyo Telephone and Telegraph Company) launched the world's first commercial 3G network, WCDMA (European and Japanese standard, Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), in October of last year.

KDDI Corporation, also from Japan, is preparing to launch a 3G network using CDMA2000 (North American Qualcomm, multi-carrier multiplexing spread spectrum modulation).

SKT and KTF in Seoul recently announced that they will launch 3G commercial networks this year, using the CDMA2000 standard.

Chrysanthemums and sticks served as experimental subjects for new Western technologies. Only after they were used by Western countries would they be officially adopted and opened up.

Zhao Chang'an estimated that next year will be the year of explosive growth for global 3G commercial networks. Since the Pro is positioned as a high-end mobile phone, it is appropriate and necessary to set the launch date of the phone next spring and strive to dominate the market.

In Zhao Chang'an's previous life, the world's first 3G mobile phone, as widely recognized, was the Nokia 6650, which used the WCDMA network.

However, Panasonic in Japan had already launched 3G phones before this, but because Japan's mobile phone industry had always been confined to its island and operated independently, it had no impact on the outside world.

Nokia's 6650 was launched at the end of this year, earlier than the launch of 3G networks in Europe. The phone did not sell very well because it was a transitional model for Nokia to test the waters of 3G networks.

This also gave the 1nm Pro phone a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. On the one hand, besides the Pro phone, the only other option on the market was the poorly made Nokia 6650. On the other hand, it could leverage RIM's brand effect, especially with the North American blackout next year. The Pro phone would also be equipped with Blackberry's Push Mail email service, allowing it to work alongside Blackberry to quickly establish its own brand value.

"Mr. Zhao, I really didn't expect that you would ultimately decide to invest in this project. The company is very excited. The difficult negotiations with Intel and several other companies have been completely suspended these past two days, just to welcome you." Xiao Yangming looked at Zhao Chang'an's excessively young face and felt a mixture of envy and slight jealousy. At his age, he was still studying at Fudan University, racking his brains for that government-sponsored study abroad opportunity.

His family background was complicated. He was exempted from tuition for three years in high school. He earned money for food by loading and unloading goods at a nearby train freight station on weekends and during winter and summer vacations. His university tuition was covered by a reward from the school and county when he was admitted to Fudan University. He then worked part-time while studying at the university.

Wang Yu studied abroad at her own expense, so she did not return to China after completing her studies, and he also did not return to China after completing his studies.

Four years ago, the school sent him an email inviting him to return to China to teach. In the email, Principal Tang Wenxuan wrote a sentence to him:

"It's time to come back and serve and give back to our motherland."

That day, he hid by the sea alone, crying his heart out, and finally threw the email into the ocean.

His wife's situation was similar to his; they had both been poor, so the couple valued money very much and always saved money to invest in stocks. They haven't had children yet because they're focused on making money. He's 34 years old this year, and his wife is 32. The reason he's so enthusiastic about Zhao Chang'an this time is because he saw Qi Xidong's success and wants to replicate it.

To his disappointment, his junior classmate did not show any eagerness to learn from him, and despite his well-intentioned advice, still decided to invest in ASML.

"They really think highly of me?"

Zhao Chang'an smiled with a hint of surprise, feeling that ASML was taking an unconventional approach. He had thought of compressing light waves with the refractive index of 193nm water, but ASML had already thought of that. He thought the chances were slim, but after he sent just one letter, Xiao Yangming said that they had even suspended their negotiations with Intel in order to welcome him.

When did his reputation become so amazing? Is Xiao Yangming exaggerating?

"You heard you signed a one-year charter contract with the airline?"

"Yes, it's more convenient sometimes. Otherwise, it's hard to buy plane tickets when a whole group of people are flying around."

"If you can't buy one, you can charter a Boeing 747. The cost for a year isn't low, is it?"

"is acceptable."

Zhao Chang'an didn't want to talk about the specific price because, in his opinion, it was just a waste of time and a pointless exercise.

“I can understand chartering a plane, but why not charter a business jet with a dozen or so seats?”

Xiao Yangming said, "The cost will be only a fraction of that of a Boeing 747, maybe even less than a tenth."

“We often fly long distances, and those flights have too short a range, so they are useless to me. When doing business, you have to consider your time cost. Sometimes, cheap doesn’t necessarily mean it’s suitable for you.”

Zhao Chang'an was a little confused as to why Xiao Yangming had brought this up.

"It's because you chartered a Boeing 747 for a year that the company's senior management had a lot of confidence in your investment."

Xiao Yangming revealed the reason why he asked about the price of chartering a plane, and then said with heartache, "To be honest, if it were me, I would never spend money like that. It's such a waste."
