Why it never ends

Chapter 1226 Favor

Chapter 1226 Favor
She was already familiar enough with this land and this horse farm, after all, she had spent so many unforgettable days and nights here.

She rode her "Insight" countless times around the farm and the palace, familiar with the feeling of the wind blowing from the front and sides as she bounced on horseback—an almost flying experience that brought her unforgettable freedom. This freedom contained both wonder and fear, but as long as she was on horseback, the danger behind her could not catch up with her, as if she would live forever unrestrained, joyful, and passionate.

The more beautiful these illusory thoughts were, the more indescribable her sense of loss became the moment she dismounted. But what did it matter? Who in this world isn't bound to the earth? At least she had experienced the wind on horseback…

However, Chloe was surprised to find that when she was with these people living on the farm—whether chatting with Lü Qizhen and Jiaheduolei or doing things with these farm guests she had only met a few times—the urgency of being chased and the frustration of being trapped seemed to disappear briefly.

However, there were too many things she couldn't understand—she couldn't quite figure out why Tess lived alone by the horse farm, why Eucalyptus, despite being Herstal's guest, always did the work of servants at the horse farm, and why electrician Hazel often seemed to be with the "big shots" on the farm, such as Lyrin.

Chloe's own house had had its electrical wiring and plumbing break down several times, and she seemed to have hired workers to fix them, but Chloe had never seen those people. It seemed that her mother always had these people come to do the work when no one else was around, so that the workers wouldn't run into her father or her sister.

Chloe spared a small portion of her attention for these matters, but focused most of her energy on moving the items. The group spent the entire morning moving all the large and small items piled up in the basement to the open space in front of the house.

Some things had already gone moldy, and Tiny, wearing goggles and gloves, was disinfecting them with a sodium hypochlorite solution. Chloe and Eucalyptus sat on the steps in front of the house, wiping away sweat, watching her work. Hazel had finished listening to the radio and was standing in the middle of the open kitchen, preparing lunch for the four of them.

Chloe remained curious about Hazel's toolbox and couldn't help but glance at it a few more times. The old man noticed this and offered to let her see if she wanted to open it again, but Chloe immediately waved her hand and refused.

For some reason, she was a little angry at Hazel's invitation, and instinctively thought that no one would want to touch such filthy things, but she immediately realized that if she did, Tex would definitely kick her out.

Like Sheena, Chloe could quickly identify who held the most authority and was untouchable, no matter where she went. Clearly, once outside the specialized setting of "circuit repair," Tin was the one who made the final decisions.

This offered Chloe some comfort—because it seemed that Irons and Hershtar weren't on the same side, and Irons's hut appeared to be unaffected by Hershtar's influence. Heaven knows how much she needed a place where she could be completely shielded from that person.

"Can I come here often in the future?" Chloe asked. "You seem to be short-staffed."

Tess glanced at Chloe—Chloe almost immediately sensed that look was one of rejection.

“Okay,” Tie Xi said.

"Huh?" Chloe frowned. "Are you sure?"

"You can come anytime you want, but I might not be there. You can call ahead to ask." Tie Xi's tone was a little teasing. "Thank you for coming to help today. I owe you a favor."

“You don’t seem to be sincere,” Chloe muttered. “I don’t care whether you’re sincere or not.”

……

In her study, Hershta was reading today's media reports about the Aschia Freedom Front. Similar to last time, most left-wing newspapers remained skeptical of her stance, analyzing her ambitions based on her previous violent methods in response to terrorist attacks—in a somewhat derogatory light; while the right wing ridiculed her manipulative tactics as outdated and hypocritical because of her "whale-raising" on the farm.

Hershta quickly scanned all the content and marked some of the names.

Not only local newspapers, but her own internal email inbox was also flooded with emails from Mercury Needle, all over the world. Some of these emails were from people she had worked with, while others were completely unknown to her. The content of the emails was also varied, with a few congratulatory and abusive ones, but most expressing doubts and concerns.

Although Hester was mentally prepared for negative public opinion, she was still somewhat surprised to see that almost no one publicly expressed their support for her. She vaguely felt that she had probably overlooked something, which led to this media storm.

There was a knock on the door, but Hester didn't look up: "Come in."

Xia Yixue, who was in charge of student life management, walked in with a serious expression.

“Hello, Jane,” she said, walking to the table and declining Hersta’s offer to sit down. “I’m here to discuss something with you. I’ll be leaving soon.”

"Please speak," Hesta said, his expression turning serious. "What happened to the children?"

“It’s not about the children—well, it’s about Eunice,” she whispered. “I noticed her cheek is swollen, really swollen, obviously someone hit her.”

"Eunice?" Hershta asked, somewhat surprised. "You mean Eunice?"

“Yes, your reaction was the same as mine,” Xia Yixue said. “No one here would actually do it, and most of the people who would would be no match for her. But last night I saw her and her teacher, your friend from District 14, leave the talk salon halfway through—I’m not sure if it was him who did it.”

Hersta frowned immediately—yes, probably only Boheng on the whole farm could hurt Eunice.

“If so, we must warn him that no one is allowed to lay a hand on anyone here,” Xia Yixue said. “Considering that person is your friend, I didn’t go directly to him, but came to you first. Jane, this matter needs to be addressed.”

"Have you asked Eunice?"

“She said she hit herself,” Xia Yixue said, “but I don’t believe a person could hit themselves that badly.”

"Okay, take me to see Eunice first—"

“It’s best not to. I’ve already asked her, and she doesn’t seem too keen on talking about it. It’s cruel to keep asking her what’s wrong,” Xia Yixue said. “If you’re free now, could you come with me to find that man? I want to ask him face-to-face what’s going on.”
