Chapter 63 Doting
The words were highly sarcastic and the tone was extremely unfriendly.

Wei Qingsong could naturally tell what was going on. She glanced at the young man indifferently and didn't say anything more.

Lu Jingming said coldly, "If I remember correctly, we came to the Quyang Branch to guide and assist you in handling the case, not for team building."

His gaze was cold and sharp, and his aura was imposing.

The young man was momentarily stunned by his sharp gaze, and muttered defiantly, "It's not like you can solve the case just by coming here."

Before Lu Jingming and Wei Qingsong could say anything, Director Zheng's expression changed, and he scolded, "Zheng Xun! How dare you talk to your superiors like that? You're getting more and more rude. Be careful, or I'll slap you!"

Zheng Xun curled his lip indifferently, but didn't dare to say anything more.

After this little incident, Wei Qingsong noticed that Zheng Xun's eyebrows and eyes were somewhat similar to those of Director Zheng.

No wonder this kid dared to be so arrogant just now; it turns out there was this connection involved.

Director Zheng chuckled twice, his tone awkward: "I'm just a greenhorn who's only just entered society, I don't know any better, please don't take offense, comrades."

Lu Jingming and Wei Qingsong naturally didn't bother arguing with him, but Chen Jin couldn't stand it and spoke up for them, saying, "I really don't know where some people get the audacity to provoke us. You guys couldn't solve the case in half a year, but our Captain Lu and Sister Wei made new discoveries just by looking at the information once."

"really?"

"Really?"

Director Zheng and Zheng Xun shouted almost in unison, but somewhat comically, Director Zheng was beaming, while Zheng Xun's expression was not so pleasant.

After all, he had just expressed his disdain for the city bureau's support, but he didn't expect to be proven wrong so quickly.

Bai Rushuang appropriately took over the conversation and briefly summarized Wei Qingsong's analysis.

Director Zheng's expression grew even more delighted: "That's wonderful! I knew it. You all truly are the elites of the Municipal Bureau."

He paused for a moment, then said with great enthusiasm, "It's too late today. I've already booked rooms for you comrades at the hotel. You all should get some rest! This serial murder case is counting on you all."

Wei Qingsong smiled politely and nodded: "Director Zheng, rest assured, we will do our best."

Director Zheng smiled broadly: "Great, that's wonderful. Let's go, I'll personally escort you to the hotel."

Although Quyang is only a county-level city, Director Zheng is still a branch bureau chief at the level of a section chief. In terms of rank, he and Lu Jingming are at the same level, but within the entire public security system, the two do not interfere with each other. Director Zheng has no need to be so obsequious.

It's clear that this case has caused Director Zheng a great deal of distress, and the assistance from the Municipal Bureau is like a lifeline falling from the sky for him.

Unable to refuse Director Zheng's hospitality, Lu Jingming and Wei Qingsong did not decline any further.

The group set off in a grand procession. Along the way, Director Zheng was very enthusiastic about discussing the case and would often praise the comrades from the Municipal Bureau, which made everyone laugh and cry.

This Director Zheng is quite down-to-earth; although he's a bit muddle-headed, he's also kind of endearing.

As they approached the hotel, Director Zheng hesitated for a moment before carefully saying, "That kid Zheng Xun has never experienced hardship and is a bit arrogant. He offended you all today, but he meant no harm. I will give him a good talking-to and ask him to cooperate fully with you leaders in the future. I hope you will be understanding and not hold it against him."

Thinking of Zheng Xun's contempt for Wei Qingsong, Lu Jingming remained expressionless, his cold face hidden in the flickering lamplight, making it impossible to discern his emotions.

Chen Jin and Xiao Song both pouted in unison, making no attempt to hide their dislike for Zheng Xun.

Wei Qingsong, however, maintained her smile, turned her head to look at the night view outside the window, and said casually, "Children who grow up spoiled are bound to be arrogant and haughty."

Although Director Zheng immediately rebuked him, Zheng Xun's first reaction was to curl his lip, a sign of disdain that showed he had no fear of Director Zheng. This reveals the kind of lifestyle this father and son lead in their family.

His clothes were neat and without a single wrinkle, but Wei Qingsong had just noticed that his desk was messy and disorganized, which meant that his clothes were ironed for him in advance, and that he himself was a person who lacked self-care ability.

Based on these two points alone, Wei Qingsong could conclude that Zheng Xun must be very much loved at home.

Director Zheng chuckled awkwardly twice: "You truly are a psychological expert from the Municipal Bureau. Your words hit the nail on the head. His mother and I are indeed not very good at educating children."

After saying that, he quickly added as if to salvage the situation, "However, please believe me, he is not a malicious child."

Chen Jin was quite surprised. He had never thought of this aspect, yet Wei Qingsong had so easily revealed the relationship between Director Zheng and Zheng Xun. This observational ability was truly rare.

Upon hearing Director Zheng's words, Wei Qingsong simply smiled, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

Zheng Xun looked young, around twenty years old. His life certainly held endless possibilities. However, calling him a "child" was inappropriate, though Director Zheng didn't seem to realize it yet.

Since it was someone else's family matter, Wei Qingsong refrained from interfering, lest it cause resentment among others.

Some things, they can only understand after they have experienced them themselves.

Director Zheng had made careful arrangements; the hotel environment was quite nice, and at least Wei Qingsong slept relatively comfortably that night.

The next morning, Director Zheng personally drove to pick him up, showing impeccable manners.

The only unpleasant thing was Zheng Xun's perpetually sour face.

Perhaps because Director Zheng had reminded Zheng Xun after he returned home yesterday, he didn't say those annoying nonsense today. However, he didn't seem very enthusiastic either.

He yawned and said casually, "We've already investigated Zhang Ming, and he really has no problems. I just don't understand, isn't it a waste of time to keep an eye on someone we've already investigated? I'd rather use that time to re-examine Yu Fangfang's interpersonal relationships."

Wei Qingsong wasn't angry at all, her expression was very calm: "In Y country, my mentor and I investigated a case. The police investigated for more than half a month and finally obtained key evidence, only to find that the murderer was actually the person who reported the case. In the initial investigation, the police also confirmed the murderer's alibi, but it turned out that his alibi was forged."

Zheng Xun snorted unconvinced: "What does that prove? You're just giving a special case, it's not convincing at all."

“What I’m trying to say is that anything is possible. You think this is a waste of time, but I think it’s a very necessary investigation.” Wei Qingsong’s tone was neither aggressive nor unforgiving.

"Furthermore, our advocacy for a reinvestigation of Zhang Ming's alibi does not mean abandoning the search for other suspects. While investigating him, we should also re-examine Yu Fangfang's interpersonal relationships. These two are not contradictory."

Wei Qingsong said calmly, "Finally, I want to remind you that four women have already been victimized. You may be dissatisfied, you may not follow our arrangements, and you may even act on your own. I will not report you to Director Zheng. But I hope you can respect life. After all, we now have a common goal, which is to catch the real culprit as soon as possible and to stop the women of Quyang County from being in fear."
