Chapter 2396 (4)

Once, after dining at a restaurant serving official cuisine, I went to the hotel lobby and saw several employees or promoters of the self-operated restaurant filming a short video advertisement. They had to take multiple takes to find the best angle.

Someone asked me if a New Year's Eve dinner costing over two thousand yuan is really worth it. This video, which lets viewers follow the actual footage to the restaurant to find out, is probably going to be promoted in the media.

That restaurant's upscale New Year's Eve dinner costs five or six thousand yuan, which is higher than the prices offered by some local five-star hotels. It's a genuinely high-end set menu; the price is advertised in the posters. Don't underestimate some regions; some have high costs of living. The specifics depend on the individual circumstances.

I checked group-buying apps, but the high-end set meals at that restaurant were too expensive, so I didn't go. After discussing it with my family, we decided to cook New Year's Eve dinner at home again this year, preparing eight or ten dishes – a routine we've maintained for years. Even though some dishes are pre-cooked, others need to be thawed and thoroughly heated, and washing pots and pans is especially busy. For example, stir-fried vegetables need to be fresh, which takes time. Preparing many dishes means more work. After a hearty New Year's Eve dinner, with plenty of meat and fish, we might not want to move much, but we still have to clean the kitchen, and possibly even make dumplings by hand. Not everyone enjoys heavy housework.

So many people go to restaurants for their New Year's Eve dinner or take out takeout, some just to reduce their workload while staying up late to welcome the New Year. The total amount of housework in some households is no less than the workload of some jobs.
