Chapter 912 907 Inner Demons

Chapter 912, Section 907: Inner Demons
The bright sunshine felt like a gentle caress, stirring a familiar feeling deep within him, as if someone had woken him up in the same way long ago.

Wang Sheng struggled to lift his eyelids and looked at the white ceiling.

Intense fatigue and exhaustion spread through his withered body, reminding him that his body had been almost turned into a decaying void by the sands of time, with only a few remaining muscles barely holding it together.

After a while, he slowly got out of bed, having prepared himself.

His breakfast was already laid out on the bedside table. He remembered it when he smelled the aroma, and then he remembered that the nurse had put it there for him. Oh right...

He's at a retirement home.

That familiar figure was nowhere to be seen beside him.

A feeling of emptiness instantly overwhelmed him. His eyes darted clumsily around the room, helplessly searching for that impossible figure, and just as he had expected…

He couldn't find anything.

Wang Sheng hurriedly put on his slippers and then rushed out of his bedroom.

Before him stretched a familiar yet unfamiliar corridor. Nothing in front of him brought him any sense of novelty, but he had no idea where he was.

"Do you know where she is?" He reached out and grabbed a passing nurse.

The nurse looked puzzled, but she quickly realized what was happening before her eyes:
"Where are you staying? Let me take you to your room first."

“No, no need,” Wang Sheng quickly refused. “I’m fine, I just can’t find her.”

The nurse quietly took his arm:

"Sir, could you tell me her name?"

Wang Sheng paused for a moment, then said with some sadness and timidity:

"I do not remember."

The nurse smiled and said:

"It's alright, how about this, I'll go back first..."

"What's going on?" A middle-aged female nurse, dressed in a more upscale manner, walked over.

The young nurse said somewhat nervously:
"Head nurse, he said he can't find him, it should be..."

She conveyed her meaning subtly with her eyes.

The head nurse nodded:
"Leave it to me, sir. You said you couldn't find anyone?"

The old man pursed his lips and hunched his neck as he said:

"No, I don't know, I can't find her, she was just here a moment ago."

The head nurse then gently accepted the young nurse's criticism and, while helping the elderly man up, said:

"It's alright, I'll help you find it. Just tell us how you want us to help you find it."

As she spoke, she gestured with her eyes that the young nurse could leave the task to her.

Wang Sheng said somewhat timidly:

"Okay, thank you. I really don't know what happened, I lost her."

The head nurse asked gently:

"She was just here a moment ago. When were you referring to?"

Wang Sheng thought for a moment and said:
"She was by my bedside before I woke up."

The head nurse nodded slightly:
"Do you know where she might go? And what she looks like and her name?"

After thinking for a moment, the old man said:

"She's beautiful, the most beautiful person I've ever seen, and she likes to have a serious face, but she just doesn't know what expression to use to deal with other people..."

As he spoke, a smile appeared on his face, but this faint happiness was quickly overwhelmed by a tidal wave of panic.

"But I don't know where she went. She was gone when I woke up this morning."

The old man once again showed a pitiful expression.

The head nurse nodded:
"It's alright, I'll help you search slowly. I'll help you walk. If you see her, please tell me immediately." The old man patted her arm gratefully.

"Thank you."

He looked up at the spacious corridor ahead, his eyes quickly scanning all the figures he could see. None of them were the person he was looking for. If she were here, he wouldn't need to bother searching so hard.

Wherever she is, she stands out like a pearl in the ashes.

Wang Sheng kept walking, trembling as he passed through each corridor, but the longer he walked, the more panicked and empty he felt inside, as if he were walking towards a cliff from which there was no turning back.

Suddenly, he stopped in his tracks.

"No need to look anymore," the old man said.

The head nurse looked at him sideways, puzzled.
"what happened?"

The old man seemed to recall something and said:

"She's not here, I know, she's not here..."

The head nurse asked very warmly:
"Then where is she?"

The old man took a deep breath and closed his eyes.

He didn't know where she was, but he could feel that all his actions were in vain. Even if he dug three feet into the ground today, he would not be able to find that figure that was no longer there.

She's nowhere to be found.

"Hey, what are you doing?" A slightly flirtatious female voice brought him back to reality.

Wang Sheng opened his eyes, looked at the young woman across the table, then put the spoon he had raised in mid-air back onto the metal plate in front of him, and then looked at the woman across the table with a complicated expression.

She had a cold and aloof face, but at this moment she smiled like an innocent child, and her eyes slowly filled with expectation for him, as if the whole world had already disappeared from her sight.

"You were looking for me?" the woman said with a smile. "How's the search going?"

He shook his head with difficulty:

"I can't find you, I can't find you anywhere, it's like..."

The woman, unaware of what he was about to say, remained full of anticipation and curiosity.
"Like what?"

Wang Sheng glanced at the spoon he was gripping tightly in his hand, scooped up a mouthful of rice and put it in his mouth, chewing it at the slowest speed. Then, with some difficulty, he swallowed the rice grains that were not fully chewed down his throat.

He still did not answer:
"Am I going to lose you?"

The woman smiled and said:

"Maybe, but it's okay if we can't find it."

He shook his head firmly but slowly:
No, I still need to find you.

The woman said with a worried look in her eyes:
"Too much longing will crush you."

He smiled and said:

"I'm not afraid."

Then, he lowered his head and slowly ate his lunch.

Right under her gaze...

"I've finally found you." The middle-aged woman's voice shattered his illusions.

The head nurse walked up behind him, looking at the empty seat in front of him with a puzzled expression:

“Mr. Wang, I’ve found your room. Would you like me to take you back now? Or would you like to take a walk after dinner? I can stay here with you.”

Wang Sheng turned to look at the head nurse:
"It's alright, I remember my room, I can find my way back, don't bother me, I've already wasted a lot of your time today..."

The head nurse shook her head:
"This is our job."

Wang Sheng said with gratitude:
"Thank you, but I can find my way back myself. I'm feeling better now, I'm alright..."

"Young man."
