Chapter 2178: In the face of national crisis, you can’t become a god!
Shang Zhen knew that he had definitely saved his life this time and had truly experienced life and death!
Naturally, he knew nothing when he was unconscious. After he was rescued, he was unable to move, but when he was able to move again, of course he wanted to return to the team.
But the Taoist priest who saved him did not let him leave, saying, "If you don't want to die on the way back, then stay here."
The old Taoist didn't tell him the severity of his injury, but Shang Zhen, who had always been cautious, listened to his advice and stayed there obediently.
And when the old Taoist made fun of him for being afraid of death, Shang Zhen, who had always hung out with the stupid old man, retorted in a ambiguous way using the Buddhist saying "time and life depend on it".
But that was only occasionally. Most of the time, Shang Zhen, who was bored but unable to do strenuous exercise, would sit cross-legged on the firewood pile and meditate.
In Shang Zhen's opinion, there is nothing mysterious about meditation. It just involves a few key points.
One is to sit cross-legged, with both feet pressed under the knees, which is called loose cross-legged sitting. One leg is pressed on top of the other leg, which is called single cross-legged sitting. The feet are crossed and pressed on the opposite thigh roots, which is called double cross-legged sitting. Only when you sit steadily can your breathing be steady.
Before, when he was with Big Stupid, he could only do single-leg cross-legged sitting. But this time he had time, so he practiced slowly and finally stretched the tendons in his legs enough to do double-leg cross-legged sitting.
The second is to control your thoughts and not let them be cluttered.
Da Lao Ben taught him three tricks. The first trick was to just watch your thoughts of chanting Buddha's name. The second trick was to just watch your thoughts rise and fall without following them. You were like a bystander or a mirror. The third trick was to count your breaths.
The third key point is to control your breathing, of course the Taoists call it "Tu Na".
Perhaps Shang Zhen himself was the kind of person who had no desires or demands. After he sat cross-legged like this, he gradually began to gain some insights.
He found that when he sat cross-legged and began to breathe gently, the breathing in the injured part of his body was not smooth at all.
At this point, Shang Zhen realized that he had only barely survived, and he really needed to listen to the old Taoist and take good care of himself.
So during the following days of recuperation, he could only continue to sit cross-legged in meditation.
Until the last meditation before he came back, he not only felt that his breath was finally unobstructed, but he also mastered a skill.
Of course, in his opinion this is a very useless skill, which is just to resist hunger!
Yes! To resist hunger!
Daquanzi has been gone for some time, and it is impossible for others to always be here to take care of him.
The reason why the old Taoist would come back to see him from time to time was because Shang Zhen had a gun and could hunt some wild game for the old Taoist to satisfy his cravings from time to time.
But how easy is it to find prey in the mountains in winter?
Just imagine if there were endless prey in the mountains, then why would the Han people still be an agricultural nation? They might as well just go hunting!
Shang Zhen also did not have an endless supply of bullets. In order to lure the old Taoist to come and treat his injuries from time to time, he had to eat sparingly even if he hunted prey.
Fortunately, it was winter, so the prey would not go bad if it was placed outside where wild animals could not reach it.
The saddest thing is not that the old Taoist priest with a weird temper came and there was no game, but that Shang Zhen sometimes couldn't catch any prey and couldn't even eat it himself.
What to do? He couldn’t do strenuous exercise and there was no village nearby, so Shang Zhen, who was recovering from his injuries, became frugal. As long as he didn’t starve to death, he would eat less!
At first, when he sat cross-legged without food, he was really hungry, so hungry that he felt like his soul was leaving his body. But so what? Others can get used to vomiting blood, so how could he not get used to being hungry?
But after he got used to being hungry, he felt that his body became lighter and he even felt that his body was dispensable.
The highest record, which was the last time before he came back, was that he sat cross-legged in the small broken temple for seven days, and only drank some water in between, until the old Taoist came and woke him up!
As for the experience of sitting cross-legged in meditation, he did sit for seven days in a row and finally gained some insights. He also understood why Da Laoben liked to sit cross-legged when he had nothing to do.
Of course, he didn't know what the other guy had realized, but he himself had realized something.
While meditating, he remembered many things that he thought he had forgotten, including things before the age of three or four that a normal person would never be able to remember. He even saw a baby kicking its legs and crying on the kang.
There are two situations that left a deep impression on him: the little boy, who was skinny and small, and the calf. When the child was older and not fully sensible, the adults would reach out and pinch something and ask, "What is this?" The child would then say, "It's the calf!"
Another situation was that I actually saw ancient people while meditating!
She had a bun on her head with a hairpin stuck in it, and a long robe with wide sleeves.
The reason why Shang Zhen knew that the person he saw was an ancient person was because he had seen him in some New Year pictures.
However, Shang Zhen, who already had experience in meditation, did not follow what he saw. He was like an emotionless mirror, just reflecting the images without any thoughts.
Of course, he was finally able to wake up because of the old Taoist priest.
He woke up and recalled the scene he had seen, and suddenly realized that the baby should be himself!
Shang Zhen couldn't help but laugh because of this.
The old Taoist asked him what he was laughing at, and he told him what he saw of his naked buttocks while meditating.
After listening to his experience in meditation, the old Taoist spoke to him seriously for the first time.
Shang Zhen could understand some of the things they said, such as the old Taoist regretting that he should not have woken him up, or that he had a strong Taoist aptitude, and if he wanted to learn Taoism, he would be better than the average Taoist!
If there was any, Shang Zhen would not understand, what is meaning of returning to nature like a baby, what is meaning of five qi returning to origin and three flowers gathering at the top of the head!
Shang Zhen then asked him what were the ancient people he saw during meditation.
The old Taoist said that it was because you had some kind of supernatural power while in meditation!
What is a magical power? Shang Zhen was speechless.
At that time, he thought, if he could really cultivate some supernatural powers, then why would he bother fighting the Japanese devils with so much effort?
Wouldn't it be much easier if I just farted and sent all those little devils back to Japan? Wouldn't it be necessary for me to sacrifice so many brothers and so many anti-Japanese soldiers, and would so many ordinary people be tortured by the little devils?
So, even though he woke up and could still remember clearly what happened during his meditation, he still didn't believe it in his heart.
The old Taoist then persuaded him to practice Taoism with him, and even offered to take him to meet his master, saying that he was just a half-baked person, and his master was the real master!
Shang Zhen asked him, how high is your master?
The old Taoist replied, if you follow my master to practice, you can become an immortal with your Taoist roots!
Shang Zhen doesn't believe that anyone can cultivate and become an immortal.
It is true that there are immortals in the Northeast, but the immortals in the Northeast and the immortals that this Taoist priest talked about are definitely two different things.
In Northeast China, it is called Daxianer. The erhua sound at the end is very important and must be included. Shang Zhen certainly knows the so-called Daxianer, which is a yellow-skinned fox spirit or something like that.
Shang Zhen didn't believe that humans could cultivate to become immortals, but he would definitely not argue with the old Taoist who had saved his life.
He had to admit that this old Taoist had things that ordinary people couldn't do.
Otherwise, with the gunshot wound he received this time, would he still be alive today? The flesh would have rotted away and only the bones would be left!
So Shang Zhen's answer to the Taoist priest was, "At a time when the nation is in danger, I can't be a god! Maybe among the people I saved there are people with Taoist roots, and they can become gods in the future!"
