"Speaking of persuading the king, there are five ways to choose."

"What are the five types?"

Confucius said: "The first kind is called remonstrance, that is, euphemistic and solemn persuasion.

The second type is called remonstrance, that is, persuasion with straightforwardness.

The third type is called subduing remonstrance, that is, persuading in a low voice.

The fourth type is called direct remonstrance, that is, straightforward persuasion.

The fifth type is called satire, that is, euphemistic and hidden words to persuade. "

Zai Yu pondered for a while, then asked, "Then which of these five ways of persuading is the best?"

Confucius didn't say which was better, but replied.

"The five methods each have their own advantages, and should be properly selected according to different opportunities and the character of the monarch you serve.

Deceitful remonstrance can attract the attention of the monarch.

Plain remonstrance can point out the fault of policy.

Remonstrance can ease manic depression.

Direct remonstrance can state the interests of a matter.

Sarcasm can save everyone's face. "

Zai Yu asked again: "From ancient times to the present, who are good at these five methods of persuasion?"

Confucius thought for a while and replied: "The model of deceitful remonstrance is Jizi, the model of frivolous remonstrance is Bigan, the model of condescending remonstrance is Wei Zi, the model of direct remonstrance is Ehou, and the model of ironic remonstrance is Yanzi."

The comparison of these few examples given by the master is too obvious, isn't it?

Jizi used treacherous remonstrance to speak to King Zhou, but King Zhou reduced him to a slave.

Bigan speaks to King Zhou with outrageous remonstrance, but King Zhou disembowels him.

Wei Zi used remonstrance to speak to King Zhou. Although he saved himself from being punished, King Zhou still didn't listen.

The fate of Ehou's direct remonstrance was not very good, and he was directly chopped into meat sauce by King Zhou.

Among these people, Yanzi of Qi State was the only one who was safe and sound throughout the three dynasties of Qi Linggong, Qi Zhuanggong, and Qi Jinggong because of his use of irony.

The three monarchs have always respected Yanzi, and they have to consult Yanzi before making decisions on all national affairs.

And not only the monarch respects Yanzi, but also the people of Qi State and the ministers and officials respect him very much.

During the reign of Duke Zhuang of Qi, Cui Shu killed the king in anger because he was cuckolded by Duke Zhuang, causing civil strife in Qi.

In front of Cui Shu, Yan Zi fell on Qi Zhuanggong's body and wept and mourned.

Later, Cui Shu planned to swear an alliance with the people of the country, but Yan Zi did not come to participate, and advised Cui Shu not to go too far in the form of irony.

Others persuaded Cui Shu to kill Yan Zi, but Cui Shu couldn't bear to do it.

He said: Yanzi is a person loved by the people, and if he is let go, he can win the hearts of the people.

It can be seen that satire is the highest form of admonition!
Not only can it achieve the purpose of persuasion, but it can also protect itself. How can we not learn this method?

Zai Yu hurriedly said, "Although the five methods of persuasion have their own advantages, students still want to learn satire first!"

Confucius knew that this kid was playing tricks again, but he didn't point him out.

Instead, he stroked his beard and smiled, "Yu! I also agree with your point of view! These methods of persuasion need to be adopted by guessing the monarch's mind.

If you do not understand the intention of the monarch, it is safer to use the method of irony to persuade! "

Confucius paused and said: "When I was a guest in Qi State, I heard that one of Qihou's favorite horses died of illness.

When Qihou learned of this situation, he was furious, so he ordered the little official who raised the horse to be killed.

After Yanzi heard the news, he immediately came to see Marquis Qi.

He begged: "When Yao and Shun were at the beginning, they always counted his crimes before killing people."Now the ruler of the state wants to execute the horse breeder. I ask to follow the example of Yao and Shun and state the crime before execution.

Qi Hou was getting angry, so he agreed: "Okay, then you can say it!"
Yan Zi then stood in front of the horse breeder and counted his crimes.

Say: You have committed three great sins!
First, the king asked you to raise a horse, but you raised the horse to death. This is the first capital crime!
Second, the horse you raised to death happens to be the king's favorite horse. This is the second death penalty!
Third, because you raised the horse to death, the king wanted to get angry and kill someone.When the common people heard about it, they would definitely blame the ruler for killing people because of horses, and when the princes heard about it, they would definitely despise our country because of it.This is the third capital offense!

You killed the king's beloved horse, caused resentment among the people, and made other countries despise us. Now the king wants to execute you, do you know your crime?

After hearing Yan Zi's words, Qi Hou could only blushing and admit his mistake to Yan Zi.

Qihou said: Don't talk anymore, please let him go!Let it go!Don't let him tarnish my good name of benevolence. "

After Confucius finished speaking, he smiled and said: "If you can persuade the king like Yanzi, why worry that they won't listen?
As long as the king listens to your words of loyalty, why worry about those villains using evil methods to confuse the king and cause the country to suffer damage? "

Satire and remonstrance is the ambiguity of art.
