Chapter 500 4962 Lunas
Chapter 500, Section 496: Two Lunas
Night slowly enveloped San Sebastián, and candles were lit throughout the hospital.
The candlelight was dim, yet together it could still replace the twilight, continuing to bathe the ward in a pale yellow hue. But the moment Luna appeared, lifting her long dress, the so-called "yellow" returned to its original state.
Olney's reaction might lead one to mistakenly believe that this woman is the villain commonly found in fairy tales.
Ugly, bloated, domineering, hysterical, and with a sharp tongue hidden in her skin and muscles, but in fact, these words have nothing to do with Luna.
Of course, describing her as "lovable" is not quite accurate.
Her beauty lies in her slender and graceful figure, in her elegant posture honed through daily practice, and in her naturally beautiful face.
This kind of beauty, which combines all the "prettyness" into a single physical appearance, is very direct.
Without needing to speak or make any movements, simply standing there can disregard the rationality of most men and directly stir up their deepest desires.
Luna hadn't expected her appearance to attract everyone's attention, as if their eyes had been fixed on the doorway from the very beginning, waiting for her arrival.
Anyone would feel uncomfortable being stared at like that.
But years of social training had paid off; she adjusted her breathing and deliberately slowed her pace. First, she draped the slipped pink shawl back over her shoulders, then scanned the surgical ward.
Her movements slowed, her speech slowed, and her eyes lost their sparkle. She anxiously approached a nurse, who was also a woman: "Excuse me, is Mr. Anders here?"
The nurse looked through the medical record and answered truthfully, "He's not here; he's in surgery."
"Then, what about his assistant?" Luna asked again. "Mr. Hugo is one of the best Spurs players in Spain, he should have been sent here as well."
"You must be Miss Luna!" The burly man on the hospital bed smiled and raised his hand. "I'm here."
"Oh, Mr. Ugo, hello! I'm Luna. I saw you a couple of days ago when you came to the cattle farm to see my father." Luna approached the bedside, pressing down her skirt to avoid touching the edge of the bed, and asked with a smile, "I heard you were injured. Are you feeling better?"
As she drew closer, her beauty was amplified, and her striking features became clearer and more captivating.
She was a woman of expressive features, her beautiful facial lines conveying a deep sense of emotion that made it easy to read her thoughts at a glance. Especially noticeable were the two faint tear tracks, which, in the interplay of light and shadow, hinted at a hasty touch-up.
Ugo's job kept him away from women; the girls in the stands were far away from him.
Compared to the charging bull, the approach of a beauty like Luna made him more nervous, so nervous that he couldn't even entertain the slightest fantasy.
"I'm fine. With Dr. Kavi treating me, I should recover soon. Mr. Anders, on the other hand, is still in surgery."
Ugo still felt lingering fear when he thought of that bull, and he kept praying that Anders would pull through. But in Luna's heart, the two of them weren't even friends, let alone the center of attention; at most, they were just half-stepping stones.
Now that the preamble is over, Luna gets to the point: "Has Mr. Orni been here?"
"Did you come or not?" Ugo hesitated for a moment before turning the subject back to the nurse. "I'm injured. To be honest, I've been sleeping the whole time. You can ask the nurses; they should know."
The nurse was nervous: "Who is Mr. Orney?"
"Like me, they are their friends."
Antonio wasn't there, nor were his assistants, so the nurses didn't dare to say anything: "We haven't seen him before, but of course, it's also possible that we didn't notice him when he came."
Luna found it strange. Orni was a prominent young man in this small town, always wearing the police station's black uniform, nearly 1.9 meters tall, and handsome. How could she not care?
The nurses also had their reasons: "We're so busy all day long, we can't possibly ask about every single one of the many people coming in and out of the wards."
"Think about it again carefully."
Seeing her persistent pestering, the nurses circled around and discovered that the most reliable person in the ward was actually a stranger: "Dr. Kavi, have you met that person?"
Kavi didn't want to get involved in such trivial matters.
As soon as Olni hid, he grabbed Ugo's medical record folder and sat in the corner to draw a sketch of Ugo's chest and abdomen, hoping to use it in the conversation later to reduce communication costs.
Now that he's been called out, he just feels dizzy.
To make matters worse, Luna misunderstood.
She excitedly jogged over from the director's desk, her skirt completely covering Kavi's feet, her face filled with anxiety: "Have you seen Mr. Orni?"
Kavi politely took a half step back to maintain basic social distance and answered sincerely, "Yes, I have seen him."
"real!?"
The hospital bed not far away suddenly trembled, and even the curtains that covered half of it seemed to be fidgeting. But Kavi wasn't lying: "Just this afternoon, at the hotel, he specifically came to me hoping I could help him, and we even watched a bullfight together."
"And now?" Luna asked, somewhat disappointed.
“Maybe he’s been here, maybe he hasn’t, I’m not sure for sure.” Kavi also tried to smooth things over. “After all, I’m not a doctor here, and I haven’t been here as long as a bullfight.”
After saying that, he asked the others in the ward, "Have you seen it before?"
Some remained silent, others claimed not to know the person, and still others completely ignored them. Some, less perceptive, would glance at the hospital bed but quickly look away, feigning ignorance.
In short, with over a dozen people in the large ward, they couldn't come up with a definite answer.
Luna lowered her head, squinting her eyes, wishing she could pull Orni out of the ground: "He'll see anyone for these fair-weather friends, but not me! What is this? What am I to him???"
"girl."
Seeing her muttering something to herself, Kavi didn't want to waste any more time. He was still drawing anatomical diagrams in his hands, and advised her, "Anyway, Mr. Orni isn't here. You should look for him elsewhere."
“He should come.” Luna’s face was illuminated by the candlelight, and in the shadows, besides the light, there was a hint of paleness. “I want to stay here and wait for him.”
Following his usual tactics for dealing with family members, Kavi wanted to get the person out as quickly as possible, and continued to suggest, "This is a hospital ward, not a place for young people to meet. If you want to wait for someone, go outside; there's a garden outside the ward."
“Outside? It’s winter now, it’ll get really cold outside after the sun goes down.” Luna glanced at Ugo, then looked at the surrounding beds. “There are so many empty beds here, I’ll just find one to sit on.”
A suggestion is a suggestion because it is not mandatory. Especially when the other party insists, going against it will only have the opposite effect.
Kavi wasn't going to argue with a slightly neurotic woman about hospital rules for Olni's sake, especially since he'd only been there a short time: "As long as the hospital agrees and it doesn't affect my treatment, it's fine."
After saying that, he pulled up the curtain, giving himself and Ugo a private space to chat.
How Orni handles this crisis, and whether Luna can find him, has nothing to do with Kavi.
“Dr. Kavi, that’s Mr. Olney’s fiancée.” Ugo muttered under his breath, a smile playing on his lips, as if he didn’t want to miss out on something good. “His family found her for him, the daughter of a cattle ranch owner. I’ve heard him mention her before.”
It's nice to hear some gossip occasionally, but unfortunately, Kavi doesn't have the time: "Let's talk about yourself instead."
"Me? What happened to me?" Ugo blinked, looking down at the tube in his chest. "I'm fine now."
"It's not good."
Kavi explained, "There's a lot of fluid draining from your chest cavity, which is very unusual. Based on my assessment and that of several other surgeons, it's likely urine."
Ugo, still reeling from Luna's beauty, nodded without a second thought upon hearing the news. It took him a while to realize that "urine" and "chest cavity" were completely unrelated words.
"what?"
“It’s understandable to be surprised, because I was surprised too; this is a very rare case.” Kavi recalled several cases he had encountered before coming here. “This kind of injury occurs more often in young children, whose muscles are not strong enough and whose diaphragms are also weak.”
Ugo looked down at the liquid dripping from the drainage tube: "So, the reason I haven't urinated yet is because of this?"
"If we determine there are no problems, then it should be."
"Does this mean I need surgery?"
Kavi sighed, finally reaching this point, and handed over the completed sketch: "Surgery is unavoidable, otherwise the damage to the diaphragm will get bigger and bigger, and your kidneys will be ruined."
The diagram was clearly marked and showed several cross-sections; it could easily be included in an anatomy textbook. But for Hugo, it was still too difficult. He was completely bewildered and couldn't find a point to ask questions: "I don't understand this diagram."
"These are your kidneys, which are normally located in your lower back. Covering them is the diaphragm, which separates the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity."
Suddenly, a shout came from outside the curtain, not very loud, clearly an unconscious cry, and was quickly drowned out, but the sound still lingered. Immediately afterwards, Luna could be heard speaking, and a man began to explain.
Olney has been exposed.
Two minutes ago, Ugo might have gotten out of bed, grabbed the drainage bottle, and gone out to check on things. Now, however, he had no such thought; his ears were completely focused on Kavi: "And then?"
"Urine produced by the kidneys should normally travel down the ureters to the bladder and then be expelled from the body. But now your diaphragm is ruptured, and your kidneys are also damaged, so urine will leak out through the rupture and gradually enter the body."
Kavi explained, but the more he explained, the more tired he became. Finally, he turned around abruptly and pulled back the curtain, trying his best to control his emotions: "I've already said, don't interfere with my work, thank you."
Orni bowed in apology and then tried to pull Luna out.
Luna persisted, refusing to budge an inch. Her previously pale cheeks flushed red, and her lips, which had been moving, were tightly shut. Only her eyes remained alert, staring intently at her beloved.
“Let’s go outside and talk, as Dr. Kavi suggests.”
Olney's hand hovered symbolically in front of her, then he gestured for her to touch him, showing no intention of actually touching her. This seemingly polite but actually cold gesture made her heart clench.
A shiver ran through her body, and her frail frame instantly lost all strength. She could only support herself with her hands, pressing her weight onto the bedside table, causing even the vase on the table to shake.
"Luna?"
Olney was completely unmoved, like seeing a live fish laid out on a chopping board by his own chef: "If you don't want to go out to talk, then forget it. I have things to do at the police station, I have to go back first."
Luna's voice changed completely, as if all her strength had gone to her throat: "Mr. Orni! I don't really want your approval right away. I just hope you can look at me properly, get to know my emotions, understand my preferences, and make the marriage that my two fathers arranged less awkward."
“I don’t think it’s necessary.” Olney shook his head, his face turned towards the door of the ward. “I don’t love you, so there will be no such thing as marriage.”
"But they've already reached an agreement!"
Luna finally collapsed to the floor, her hands forming fists as she pounded on the cabinet. Her strength was minimal, but the silence of the ward was overwhelming: "I really want to see what your heart is made of, why you're so cruel to me."
The curtain was pulled back again, revealing Kavi's gloomy face, so dark it could shoot bullets: "Had enough of your love games?"
"."
Orni didn't want to offend him, so she immediately tried to approach him with a smile, but Kavi stopped her. He didn't think much of it, just nodded slightly and turned to leave, as if she were a woman who had nothing to do with him.
Luna stared at the door of the ward, covered her mouth, trying to suppress her screams, and then slumped onto the bed and started crying.
Kavi looked at her helplessly and winked at the nurse beside him: "You don't even care about your own ward?"
The nurses then realized that Cavie was someone their head doctor admired, and if they said to Antonio that they ignored the unauthorized people in the ward, they would inevitably be scolded when they returned.
They wanted to go over and offer a few words of comfort, then help the person out, so as not to get in the way of Kavi's work.
Unexpectedly, Luna became even more agitated than before. She grabbed a handful of hair and pulled it forcefully to her chest, as if trying to strangle herself. Her legs kicked wildly on the ground, giving the nurse no chance to help her up.
"Olni, I hate you, I hate you!"
Luna knew in her heart that she must have been greatly stimulated to say those words involuntarily.
She couldn't control herself right now; she felt like she had split into two people. Just like the hair in her hands, divided into two clumps, one on the left and one on the right.
One Luna knew that Orni had completely rejected her; he didn't love her at all, but loved someone else. Her fantasy of love had been shattered. The other Luna, however, disregarded all this, still firmly believing that Orni had been influenced by other factors and had no choice but to act this way.
Once that influence is removed, he will smile, put on his wedding suit, and solemnly walk into the church to await her arrival.
"Dr. Kavi, something terrible has happened! Miss Luna has fainted!!!"
