Chapter 930 A Reprimand
Chapter 930 A Reprimand (Part 2)
"I never expected that the attacker was Charlie Joe. This kid is considered a rising star among the younger generation of the Master Calligraphers Association, and he's quite famous. Judging from his movements just now, he's definitely got some skill!" Amidst the murmurs, Qiu Yuanshan whispered to his wife. For someone of his stature to make such a judgment speaks volumes about the young man's extraordinary abilities.
"Hmph! In my opinion, he's a bit worse than our son! But, it's strange, didn't you notice that there was something unusual about the way Valoja and Etesban exchanged glances?!" Yuan Yao, with her keen eye, muttered with a slight frown.
"McKen and Ruhr are sworn enemies, each hoping to wipe the other out. What's there to exchange between them? Heh heh! I never thought the peace conference would turn into a fight. Maybe I'll have to go up there and vent my anger later!" Qiu Yuanshan said nonchalantly, his excitement growing. This Shadow Boss was usually stern and aloof, but he showed a hint of childlike innocence in front of his wife.
“Besides…our son hasn’t returned yet, and Young Master Mai hasn’t shown up either. I won’t allow you to make any rash moves! Do you remember that old lady who appeared in Ruhr? Her kung fu was quite impressive!” Hearing her husband say this, Yuan Yao dispelled her suspicions, gave him a warning with a pout, and then asked in a low voice.
"You do look somewhat familiar..." Qiu Yuanshan remained noncommittal when the old woman spoke up, "Young man, my name is Skaya. When we get underground, tell her my name!"
Oh my god! It's her...
Anyone in the arena of similar age to Scaya felt a chill run down their spine upon hearing her name, for it represented a legendary era in the Ruhr Gruul's golden age. The woman, personally bestowed the title of "National Hero" by Head of State Jelif, was a nightmare for opposing forces and a top assassin who had completed countless arduous missions.
No one expected that after disappearing for more than 20 years, Skaya would reappear in front of everyone on such a occasion.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere on the scene suddenly became even more tense, and all parties began to strengthen their defenses. The open clash between McKen and Ruhr could very well lead to a chaotic battle. At that point, any hope for peace would naturally vanish, and everyone present would likely face annihilation.
"You?" Charlie Joe wanted to make a few more sarcastic remarks, but he saw that the azure light was already close by. He was slightly surprised that the other party, with his status, would take the initiative to attack a junior.
A burst of fire erupted as the young man erected a burning fire barrier and retreated. Suddenly, he realized he had lost track of his enemy, and at the same time, a deep, chilling aura swept over him from behind.
Charlie Joe was truly remarkable. At the last second, he struck out two fireballs with both palms, using the recoil to propel himself forward and thus escaped unharmed.
Skaya pressed her advantage relentlessly, launching a massive offensive that targeted her opponent's vitals with every move, leaving the young man with no chance to retaliate and only able to defend himself.
The old woman was incredibly fast; her attack trajectories changed without warning. Often, she would appear in another location with a flick of her shoulder, so fast that even her afterimage was undetectable. Charlie Joe, also a master known for his speed, was extremely unaccustomed to Scaya's unpredictable attacks and was completely at a disadvantage for a time.
"General... um, um, should we send someone else up? I'm worried that Charlie Joe might get hurt!" Seeing that things were not going well, Vardon moved closer to Etesban and stammered his suggestion.
Glancing at the timid expression on the face of the Ilp Alliance chairman, like a mouse before a cat, Etsban felt both amused and satisfied, once again deeply feeling the intimidating power of McCann's banner.
"What? You think my men will lose?" he asked calmly.
"This, I dare not, I'm just worried..." Vardon's face turned pale, and before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by the other party: "Charlie Joe is standing up for you. The Ilp Alliance is full of experts. If you think my men are useless, why don't you send one of your own to take Charlie Joe off and let us see what they're made of?!"
Etesban didn't deliberately lower his voice, and many experts from the Ilpu Alliance heard his words clearly, which made them furious.
"Don't assume that McKen and Ruhr are inherently irreconcilable enemies. If a large-scale war were to break out on the continent of Yatai, wouldn't you, bordering Ruhr, be the first to suffer? Anyone can sit back and watch the tigers fight. If I, McKen, allow you two to wear each other down, who do you think will be the biggest beneficiary?" Etesban's next words caused the leaders of the various nations of Ilpu to change their expressions drastically. Because these words expressed the true thoughts of many.
"Heh! But," seeing that his words had worked, Etesban changed the subject, adding, "After all, we're allies. Since we share the same fate, our honor and disgrace are intertwined, we should be inseparable and prioritize protecting our common interests! And the key to achieving this is trust and obedience. What do you all think?!"
By now, everyone knew that the young commander was using this opportunity to put them in a difficult position. They dared not disobey and nodded in agreement. Even the leaders who had changed their expressions earlier dared not show any dissatisfaction anymore.
Because everyone understands the meaning behind Atesban's words: anyone who cannot trust and obey is harming everyone's interests, and such a person, such a force, and such a country will inevitably become the target of public criticism.
"Chairman Vardon is probably overthinking it! The commander-in-chief knows his men's strength better than anyone. He must be confident of victory to allow Charlie Joe to fight!" Garcia, the representative of the Tergi Federation, chimed in.
“Skaia is indeed formidable, but Charlie Joe is currently at a disadvantage, likely because he hasn’t figured out her attack patterns. Once the opponent fails to break through after a prolonged assault, they will inevitably suffer heavy losses, and that will be the time for our men to turn the tables!” Dilborah stared intently at the battlefield and analyzed in a deep voice.
"Hmm! This woman is not only intelligent, but also has remarkable vision and strength. She could be a great asset in the future!" Etesban raised Derbora's value to another level in his mind.
Sure enough, the situation on the battlefield is changing.
Skaya was getting on in years, and after a series of fierce attacks that failed, she felt she was running out of steam. Coupled with her anxiety, her moves became a beat slower.
"My turn!" Charlie Joe seized the opportunity, brandishing a crimson staff and sweeping it out.
Left with no other option, Skaya had to switch from offense to defense, conjuring an ice wall to try and withstand the attack.
However, a sudden change occurred. The jewel embedded at the tip of the staff burst into flames, showering down a rain of fire that instantly enveloped the old woman and the ice wall.
The next moment, Charlie Joe appeared to the side and behind his opponent, thrusting his sword forward with blue flames, aiming straight for the enemy's waist.
"Alas! It's all my fault for underestimating the enemy. Now we can only perish together!" Skaya sighed inwardly, releasing frost from her left palm to block the rain of fire, while her right hand conjured an ice spear to pierce the enemy's throat.
Charlie Joe's move could at most seriously injure his opponent, but he did not expect that when victory was in sight, the enemy would fight to the death. By the time he realized this and wanted to change his move, it was too late.
"Damn it! What a shame to die like this!" The young man tightened his grip on his finger, closed his eyes, and prepared to die.
Another of Etes's men, along with Yonezu, realized something was wrong and leaped forward to try and rescue them, but they were too late; tragedy was about to unfold.
