Chapter 124 The Enticement Failed
Chapter 124 The Enticement Failed
Lance quietly parted the bushes in front of him and carefully peeked out.
In the middle of the dense forest, in a small patch of grass, six snow-white horses with bluish manes were leisurely snorting and grazing on the grass.
"Swift Pegasus?" Lance was slightly disappointed. After all, Swift Pegasus was just a low-level magical beast, considered rather weak among Pegasus. Apart from being able to fly, it had very few skills...
"It's good enough to have some! I was just being greedy!" Lance shook his head, dispelling his greed.
After observing carefully for a while and confirming that the small group of Pegasus would not leave anytime soon, Lance slowly retreated.
"Rangers, make tripwires! Cavalry, dismount and surround them!" Lance whispered the order.
"Yes, sir!" the crowd whispered.
“Lord Lance, what about me?” Jessie Ava, riding a pony and holding a blanket, asked.
"Haha, Your Highness, why don't you wait a moment! Let me catch them first, and you can take a rest before that!" Lance chuckled.
"Do you have any extra rope? Does anyone have any extra rope? Give me a rope," Lance whispered.
“Sir, I have some here.” A Lordaeron ranger handed over a roll of hemp rope.
"Snap, snap, snap!" Lance took the rope, gripped both ends, and tugged a few times, causing the taut rope to crackle and snap.
Lance unfurled the rope, straightened it, and tied a slipknot, clearly intending to lasso the horse. To be fair, the Gale Pegasus wasn't particularly strong; otherwise, Lance wouldn't have taken such a dangerous step. If the target was the Flame Pegasus, Lance would have turned tail and run without a second thought! Not to mention the Holy Light Pegasus, the pinnacle of Pegasus power…
"Sir, should we lure them over first?" asked the Lordaeron ranger hiding in a tree.
"Seduce? That requires a potion! Do we look like we have any potions?" Lance rolled his eyes and complained. If we had potions, would it be so much trouble for me to set a trap to capture them?
"Hey everyone, are the tripwires ready?" Lance ordered the soldiers beside him. The tripwire was actually just a rope with weights hanging from both ends. When it was thrown and hit the target's leg, the centrifugal force would cause it to quickly wrap around the target and trip them to the ground.
A moment later, the soldier returned the way he came and whispered to Lance, "Sir, everyone is ready!"
"Alright! Get ready to tell them about Operation Sound Arrow!" Lance stared intently at the leisurely Pegasus in front of him.
……
"Screech!" A piercing whistling sound echoed throughout the jungle.
"Go!" Lance leaped out of the bushes, taking the lead, and the lasso in his hand began to spin.
"Hiss!" The Swift Wind Pegasus looked at the humans emerging from the jungle with some confusion and paused for a moment. Then they immediately reacted. They neighed and thrashed about, their blue aura around them indicating that they had activated their innate skill - Wind Walk (which greatly increases their running and flying speed).
"Throw the rope!" Lance's eyes narrowed. He had been careless; he hadn't expected these Swiftwind Pegasus to be so fast...
"Whoo~"
"Whoosh~whoosh!" Dozens of ropes of varying sizes were thrown out by the rangers of Lordaeron, and streaks of light swept across the sky at great speed.
"Shooting out like lightning!"
"Vertical and horizontal!"
"Swing through the air!"
One skill after another was unleashed by the Rangers of Lordaeron, and the distance between them and the Swift Pegasus was rapidly closing. Joyful expressions appeared on everyone's faces, because four Swift Pegasus were entangled in the legs by the Rangers' tripwires, and they were limping and unable to move fast at all.
"We did it!" Lance clenched his fist excitedly.
"Hee-hee-hee!" Amidst the excited expressions of the crowd, several Swift Wind Pegasus let out a mournful cry, then suddenly spread their wings and flapped them! With a loud bang, the Swift Wind Pegasus had already surpassed the height of the treetops, and under the astonished gazes of the crowd, they flapped their wings and left the place.
“This…” Lance was instantly dumbfounded.
"No way! Even a cooked duck can fly away?"
"Something's wrong!"
How did they escape?
Lance was completely dumbfounded, and even the Lordaeron ranger closest to the Gale Horse looked like he'd seen a ghost. He was just two steps away from pinning the Gale Horse to the ground and capturing it, but then it suddenly took flight! (Pegasus need a running start to fly!)
"Tsk! My luck can't be that bad... Could it be that those Gale Pegasus all had the skill of Ultimate Ascent?" Lance couldn't help but click his tongue in amazement. He was really unlucky. Most Pegasus needed a running start before taking flight, even the Holy Light Pegasus, which was at the pinnacle of combat power. Only Pegasus with the Ultimate Ascent skill could ignore the running start and take off directly...
Thinking about this, Lance felt like he'd been utterly ripped out, his heart aching with regret. What a waste! What a waste! This kind of divine skill, which would be used on other powerful Pegasus warriors, was practically useless on the Gale Pegasus... After racking his brains for a moment, Lance realized that the Gale Pegasus only seemed to have two attack skills: one called Wind Blade, and the other called Great Wind Blade...
"Damn it!" Even Lance, a nobleman of such elegance, was so angry that he swore.
"Sir, what...what do we do?" A group of subordinates looked at Lance with pleading eyes, their little eyes filled with unspeakable grievance. They had all been working excitedly for so long, only for him to flap his wings and leave! Who could stand that?
"Alright! Stop howling! Pack your things and let's get going as planned!" Lance turned and left with a dark face, wasting a lot of good ropes and wasting a lot of time. In the end, he didn't even get a hair out of the bag.
……
"How did it go, Lord Lance? Did the capture operation go smoothly?" Seeing Lance return, Jessie Ava, who was sitting on the tree stump, jumped down with her short legs and asked with concern.
“They got away!” Lance sighed, his eyes filled with frustration.
"Haha, it's alright, Lord Lance, don't worry, there will be other opportunities in the future!" Jessie reassured him. Jessie had intended to reach out and pat Lance's shoulder, but she withdrew her hand halfway through. Her size was a major disadvantage for a goblin...
"I hope so!" Lance replied dismissively, his enthusiasm waning.
"Sir, everything's ready!"
"Alright! Let's go! It's getting late, we need to find a dry place to camp! It might rain tonight!" Lance looked up at the slightly gloomy sky. There was a high probability that it would rain tonight, so they needed to take precautions against the rain, otherwise it would be strange if they didn't get sick after being soaked all night!
"Yes, sir!" Several Lordaeron rangers handed their horses to their companions and then walked on foot, carrying scimitars, clearing the way for the people behind them through the forest.
