Chapter 181 Dragonhawk Knight
Chapter 181 Dragonhawk Knight
"System check-in..." Roland muttered to himself as he lay on the bed, his eyes half-closed. He no longer cared about improving the quality of life for the residents; all he wanted now was to improve his own. Even the refugees had moved into wooden huts, while the great King Roland remained huddled in his drafty tent, tending the fireplace and enduring the northern chill...
"Oh no!" Roland muttered, pulling the blanket tighter around himself.
"Congratulations, host, you have successfully checked in and gained a wave of refugees!" The system's mechanical voice made Roland roll his eyes.
"A wave of refugees? Increasing the number of refugees, not bad, not bad." Roland was quite satisfied; at least it wasn't those strange and unusual items...
"Your Highness Roland, are you awake?" Nyx's soft, sweet voice rang out from outside the tent.
"Oh! Get up right away!" Roland suddenly realized that he had made an appointment with Nyx to have breakfast together this morning. Oh no, he was in trouble now.
“Your Highness, you haven’t forgotten, have you…” Nyx asked, blinking her big eyes at the somewhat uneasy Roland.
"Of course not! I was studying the development direction of Swiftstream City a bit late last night." Roland would never admit that; lies just came out of his mouth.
“Hehehe, let’s go, let’s try the wild rabbit they hunted this morning. I had them make honey-glazed roasted rabbit, let’s go and see if it suits your taste.” Nyx said gently to Roland, but his slightly mischievous look clearly showed that he did not believe what Roland said.
"Let's go!" Roland quickly ended the awkward topic; if they continued, he wouldn't be able to continue the story.
……
"Heavens! What is that? A dragon?" The sentry on the watchtower of Swiftstream City suddenly spotted a shadow flying in from the west, its terrifying wingspan inspiring awe.
"Roar!" A clear and stirring dragon roar resounded through the sky, and what was even more terrifying was that there was more than one shadow in the sky! Dozens of shadows covered the earth, and the roars of dragons seemed to rise and fall in the sky like a multitude of dragons!
"Toot~ toot~ toot toot toot!" The heavy war horn was sounded by the sentries, and in an instant, the piercing sound of alarm bells and the deep sound of horns echoed over the city of Swiftflow.
Everyone looked up in horror at the despairing and suffocating figures in the sky, as if the annihilation of Swiftstream City was imminent!
"By the Dragon God!" Caslo swallowed hard. Even if those were just pure dragons, they would be enough to give him trouble! Dozens of dragons were more than capable of tearing apart a giant dragon. This was the way dragons survived—living in groups!
"Kaldor! The time to serve the Empire has come!" Suppressing his unease, Caslo blew his dragon flute and summoned his dragon. Despite his immense fear, he still raised his dragon spear, mounted his saddle, and soared into the skies above Swiftstream City, intending to use ground fire as cover to engage the enemy in close combat. At least this way, he could still utilize the dragon's formidable advantage in one-on-one combat.
"Quick! The dragon is attacking! Let's go!" The Elnino rangers were the first to occupy the high ground in the city, seemingly intending to show off their reputation as dragon hunters. Although they were outnumbered, they were not afraid at all, and they nocked a series of magic-slaying dragon-hunting arrows that were enough to pierce the dragon's body.
"Chirp chirp chirp!" The five griffins, not yet fully grown, cried out angrily, as if dissatisfied with the intruders who had invaded the airspace of Swiftstream City. However, under the terrifying dragon's might, they couldn't even take flight...
"Fight! Prepare for battle!" Roland had lost all interest in his romantic time with Nyx; this terrifying horde of dragons was enough to plow through the entire city of Swiftstream three times over.
"Anti-air combat! The enemy is coming from the sky!" Grandpa Radil leaned on his staff, nervously shading his eyes with his hand as he peered out. Earth-type attacks against air were not particularly strong to begin with, and against dragons, they were even less effective.
"Form ranks! Spears in the air!" The Swift Infantry reacted swiftly, forming small squares of a hundred men each along the city wall. They held their shields above their heads and raised their spears through the gaps in the shields, creating a forest of steel on the city walls. Even the Lagrange City Guards formed ranks in their defense. However, compared to the Lagrange City Guards' shorter spears, these Swift Infantry, with their chevaux-de-frise spears over 3 meters long, were far more terrifying. It was believed that even a dragon would not want to touch these "porcupines" with its belly.
……
"A dragon is attacking!" The guards in Los Sannier also spotted the uninvited guest in the sky. "Evacuate! Quickly! Evacuate the residents!" White Wing's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets; this was truly a bolt from the blue!
"Soldiers! Form ranks! Prepare to defend against the dragon attack!" Knight Commander Maple Leaf Purple was unwilling to sit idly by and began to rally the soldiers around him to prepare for resistance. Countless people cried and surged toward the city gate, and for a moment the city gate was blocked.
"Ancestors...who will save us!"
"Dragon! The dragon is coming!"
"The dragons are attacking the city!"
The piercing screams echoed through the sky, and the entire city of Los Sannier was enveloped in immense fear. People cried out, trying to escape the place, but how far could they run when attacked from the sky?
……
"Wait! This doesn't seem to be a dragon!" As soon as Kaldo came out, he sensed a strong dragon's might approaching. His huge dragon eyes narrowed and he let out a slightly mocking voice.
"A dragon?" Caslo's voice instantly rose eight octaves. He was confident he could deal with a flying dragon, but if it were a giant dragon, he would grab Roland and run without a second thought. As for the rest of them... they could only leave it to fate.
"No, no, no! What dragons and giant dragons? Those things are dragons! They should be dragon eagles! And they have dwarves on their backs! Take a look for yourself!" Kaldo shared his view with annoyance.
And so Caslo clearly saw what Kaldo had seen... it was indeed a squad of dragon eagle riders...
"Dragon God! Your dragon race is really powerful! You even prey on the eagle race! Speaking of which, the dragon eagles haven't gone extinct yet?" Caslo sighed, rubbing his forehead.
"Go up there, we'll demand an explanation from them!" Caslo said irritably the next second. Dragonhawks and such sub-dragons were nothing compared to the numbers of giant dragons!
……
"We seem to have scared them!" The dragon eagle knights in the sky finally noticed the strange phenomenon below. Not to mention the rows of shield formations, the scattering and fleeing crowds were enough to tell the story.
"Keep your dragon eagles under control and don't let them squawk. It'll scare the others! We're just going to Irubor to seek refuge with the king, not to fight! Put away your dragon might!" The leader said displeasedly to his companions who were showing off in the sky.
“Yes, Commander!” the straightforward dwarves responded in unison.
"Good heavens! Beard above! Turin! We're in trouble!" The commander suddenly noticed Caslo charging up from below with overwhelming force. The pressure from a pure-blooded wind dragon in full power was absolutely terrifying.
"Good heavens! Form a battle formation! Is he going to attack us? It seems we've invaded the airspace of this city-state!" Cold sweat poured down the commander's face. No air knight wanted to face the dragon knight's 10-meter-long dragon spear! Even fellow dragon knights wouldn't want to be hit by such a weapon used against dragons.
"Roar!" Kaldor's angry dragon roar resounded in the sky. Their anger was not only because a mere whelp dared to provoke a dragon, but also because Caslo was furious. The two, who were of one mind, could clearly sense each other's thoughts, so Kaldor was trying to avenge his knight.
