Chapter 23 The Battle of the Five Armies
Chapter 23 The Battle of the Five Armies (3)
"Today... perhaps none of us will survive, but history will remember us! We have upheld our honor and faith!" Roland gazed at every citizen of Lagrange.
"Perhaps! The banner of Lagrange will fall! Perhaps! The empire will never be revived! Perhaps! People will forget our names! But today I want you to charge with me! Charge with me into hell! Charge into death! Charge into the end of the world!" Roland roared.
"For the glory of the empire! Kill!" Roland raised the Dragon Slayer Sword high, and the crowd erupted in cheers.
"Sound the war horn! Tell those scum below... the Emperor of Lagrange has arrived!" Roland gently turned his head to look at Caslow.
“Here!” Caslo bowed respectfully and took out a War Dragon Horn from his pocket. This was a rare item that Roland had obtained by signing in, which could greatly improve the morale of his troops. After Roland got it, he casually tossed it to Caslo.
"Hmm~" Unlike the crisp sound of the elven horn and the high-pitched sound of the dwarven horn, a very penetrating low sound pierced through the entire battlefield, even making Azog on Raven Ridge squint his eyes.
"Kong kong kong!" The dull footsteps, accompanied by the deep horn, resounded throughout the battlefield.
In the sunlit east, a dazzling light shone forth, and figures appeared on the hillside, bathed in sunlight, while a huge red flag with a golden dragon fluttered in the wind…
"Hmm? Who are they?" Azog asked in confusion.
“This is… Lord Lagrange? Roland?” Bard, who was holding a watchtower, immediately spotted the highly recognizable flag in the distance.
“Oh! It’s Mr. Roland!” Billberg also recognized the dragon flag.
“There is still hope in this battle. The mysterious lord has finally arrived with his army…” Gandalf’s eyes were filled with a smile. Clearly, he had foreseen certain things beforehand and was now certain of them.
"Roland! They're still alive!" The dwarves on the city of Irubel waved excitedly toward the east.
"Who are they?" Thranduil looked at the unfamiliar flag.
"Aha! Children! Reinforcements have arrived!" Ironfoot Dain roared as he looked at the moving steel forest.
……
“Here we are…” Renault suddenly began to sing softly.
Roland, riding his warhorse, was taken aback. He then remembered that the official Lord of the Rings game team had purchased the rights to "Star Sky" as a tribute to the entire Hobbit and Lord of the Rings series, and that this song had accompanied the Lagrange warriors on the battlefield ever since...
“Riding the sky, painting the night with sun…” At this moment, the knights beside him also slowly began to speak.
The warhorses beneath them moved slowly to the accompaniment of the song, their hooves gradually becoming lighter and faster. Finally, led by Roland and Renault, 100 Lagrange Knights galloped away, enveloped in a holy aura. The holy aura released by the two paladins together covered the entire order of knights, and at the same time, they waved their hands to cast holy inspiration on the Swift Infantry and Battanian archers.
Gradually... as the Knights grew further away from the others, the Battanian archers on horseback appeared behind them. The archers, riding fully armed Shire horses and carrying mithril bows, stared intently at the Knights' rear. To the sound of war songs, the Battanian archers spurred their horses to the sides, finally revealing the Swiftflow Infantry, arranged in a Swiftflow formation. They were in rows of 30, in columns of 10, and accompanied by the archers, they carried shields and chevaux-de-frise as they galloped down the mountain.
Amidst the terrified gazes of countless eyes, a dragon's roar resounded through the sky, even drowning out the rousing songs on the battlefield... Dragon Knight Caslo reports!
“A dragon! No! A four-legged wyvern!” Thranduil exclaimed in astonishment as he looked at the wyvern with a saddle on its back.
"Roar!" The wind dragon spewed out a sharp storm blade, and the twisted wind elemental burst forth as soon as it landed, leaving a trail of flesh and blood tens of meters long on the ground.
"Kill!" Amidst a hail of arrows, Roland's knights charged in a wall formation, slamming into the orcs' flank. The hastily organized defenses were utterly destroyed by the knights' lances, with at least two hundred orc corpses hanging from the 102 lances.
Iron hooves trampled relentlessly, orcs howling and dying beneath the knights' onslaught. Blood, entrails, and bits of flesh obscured the knights' helmets. Through his helmet, Roland saw the world turn red, yet the knights charged forward, propelled by their powerful engines. Some knights even had nearly ten still-twitching orc corpses hanging from their lances, but they carelessly discarded their heavy lances, drawing longswords and holding them horizontally before them. The knights continued their charge… “Thud!” A deafening roar erupted as Caslo, dragon lance in hand, swooped down from the sky. Battle aura compressed into a sharp point at the tip of his lance, which he thrust at a group of orcs holding shields on the ground. The terrifying wind-attribute dragon battle aura shattered the shields, and the unrestrained wind elements ravaged the orcs' bodies, tearing apart flesh and bone, ripping through armor and shields…
"No!" Azog, who witnessed all this from Raven Ridge, roared angrily. The dwarves, who had been driven to the brink of despair, regrouped with the help of this suddenly appearing army and once again secured their position.
In the sky, Caslo would still occasionally swoop down, delivering wind blades and dragon spears imbued with the blessings of the Lagrange people to his orc friends below.
The obscure dragon language resounded, and the surrounding wind elements converged towards the dragon beneath Caslo...
"Get out of the way! Dragon language magic!" Thranduil, who was under Kaslow, shouted to everyone as he saw this familiar scene.
Hearing Thranduil's warning, the humans and elves rushed into the houses. In an instant, a huge tornado was unleashed by the four-legged wind dragon's wings. This strange blue tornado was the most powerful of the few simple dragon spells that Kaslo's dragons possessed—the Storm Tornado! Guided by the dragon's will, the tornado swept horizontally along the walls of Vale, engulfing countless orcs. This tornado was essentially formed by countless high-speed spinning wind blades combined with free-floating wind elements. The orcs caught in it were torn to pieces, and when the tornado dissipated, the originally blue tornado had turned blood red... Countless pieces of flesh fell from the sky with the tornado.
At this moment, Roland and the Knights had already broken through the orc army attacking the dwarves. The entire orc army was cut through from left to right, and at least a thousand orcs died under their iron hooves. The entire Knights paid only less than a quarter of their battle energy as a price.
"Turn around! Charge again!" Roland shouted as he saw the orcs surging towards them like a tidal wave.
……
"Burn the page for me, I cannot erase the time of sleep, I cannot be loved so set me free, I cannot deliver your love..." Accompanied by the stirring war song, the Swift Infantry slammed into the orc army. Screams of orcs filled the air. The Swift Infantry at the front thrust their chevaux-de-frise forward, each time pulling them back with a spray of foul-smelling black blood. They sang their war song with fervor, stepping over the dying orcs on the ground, advancing with unstoppable momentum! They were fearless! They were invincible!
The Battanian archers protected the vulnerable Temple Guardian Priestess Ivy, who clung to the back of the Swift Footmen. All they had to do was clear out the orcs surging toward their flanks. With their accurate archery and extremely fast rate of fire, they successfully suppressed the orcs on both sides.
The Holy Knights, who had returned to fight, encountered the Swiftflow Army, which was pouring down like a torrent. Roland swung his sword and cut down several orcs before giving orders to the Swiftflow infantry.
"Get to River Valley City as quickly as possible!" Roland said coldly.
"Yes!" The Swift Infantry rushed out through the gap created by the Knights before the Orcs could surround them, heading straight for River Valley City.
Roland had carefully considered his actions. With the Knights' mobility and maneuverability, the Battanian archers' mounted guerrilla tactics, and the wyvern riders who controlled the air, the situation on the dwarves' side could be stabilized quickly. After all, the dwarves lacked offensive units rather than melee tanks. However, the human and elven allied forces in Dale were different. Roland had seen a large number of elven ranger corpses. Elven archers would be in a disaster if they were caught in close combat by the tough orcs... The Swift Footmen could effectively compensate for the lack of melee units among the elves.
"Boom boom boom~" The sound of galloping came from the direction of Raven Ridge.
"My lord! Orc reinforcements have arrived! At least 2 men!" Caslo, who could see far from the high altitude, quickly flew past Roland, leaving behind these words before pulling on his dragon saddle and flying towards Raven Ridge.
"Roar!" With an angry dragon roar, Caslo rode his dragon and clashed with the war bats of Gangaba.
"Brothers! Form ranks! Hold them off!" Seeing the orcs surging down like a flood, the Swift Infantry changed their course, determined to use their mortal bodies to stop the orc army from converging...
"Bang!" The massive stone wall was smashed open by the golden bell, and the king at the foot of the mountain was finally freed from the dragon's curse.
"Kill!" Thorin Oakenshield charged forward first, followed closely by the other dwarves.
"Hey! Brother, I've been waiting for you for ages! Where have you been?" Ironfoot Dain rushed over and happily hugged Thorin.
Second update! Brothers, let's get those votes rolling! An army is about to take its final bow, so stay tuned!
