Chapter 254 The Attack from the Dome
Chapter 254 The Attack from the Dome
"Huh? Why is the hole in the dome flashing?" Roland suddenly noticed that the dome was actually shimmering with light.
"Wait! These are orcs!" Roland jumped up in a flash. He suddenly remembered the plot of The Lord of the Rings: The First Avenger. Goblins and orcs surged out of the cave in the dome like a tide, climbed down the pillars, and quickly surrounded the Fellowship of the Ring!
"Get up! Get up, all of you!" Roland grabbed a sleeping Lagrange Royal Guard next to him and shook him quickly. After the man opened his dazed eyes, he pulled up another soldier.
"Your Highness? What's wrong?" Caslo, a light sleeper, was awakened by the noise Roland made. He immediately sat up and pulled Roland away to stop him from waking the tired soldiers. He thought Roland was having a nightmare or something.
"Your Highness! Calm down, are you having a nightmare?" Caslo asked hurriedly.
"Wake up the soldiers! The enemy is coming from above!" Roland looked up and saw that some fast orcs had already climbed halfway up the stone pillar.
"Sentinels! Wake everyone up! Orcs are attacking!" Roland roared in terror.
The unruly Roland had clearly attracted the attention of the goblin vanguard. Although they weren't very smart, they knew that if the human continued shouting, their attack would be in vain!
"Clang!" The rough iron arrow struck Roland's plate armor, then snapped and bounced away mercilessly, but this caught Caslo's attention.
"Dragon God! Arise! Attack! Prepare for battle!" Caslo's roar, imbued with dragon power, was far more effective than Roland's. His voice echoed throughout the entire hall, its lingering sound resonating endlessly! Caslo had actually used his Dragon Roar skill!
"Counterattack!" The agile Lordaeron Rangers were the first to react, drawing their bows and piercing through the goblins that approached their allies. In some places, the Lordaeron Rangers' firepower even created a "goblin rain"!
"Excellent archery!" Roland exclaimed in admiration as he watched the Lordaeron rangers shoot three arrows at once. He had never realized that his Lordaeron rangers possessed such a skill before.
"Watch out!" Caslo cleaved the arrow aimed at Roland with his sword. Although the goblin's archery skills were terrible and the arrow wasn't very sharp, the danger wasn't particularly great. But it's better to be safe than sorry. If Roland were killed by that arrow, his men would have nowhere to turn for help.
"What's wrong?" Balin, wearing a helmet, stumbled around and looked around. He couldn't understand why things had suddenly become so chaotic after just a short nap.
"Bang!" A goblin fell from the sky and slashed Balin on the back with a knife. Balin instinctively punched the goblin's skull, and he didn't realize what had happened until warm blood and brain matter splattered on his face.
"Enemy attack! Enemy attack! Get up, everyone! Children! Orcs are attacking us! Fight them! Fight them!" Balin jumped for joy as he walked among the soldiers, shouting.
"Watch out for air raids!" Omske never expected that he would be directing his troops to take cover from an air raid in an underground cave! This truly left him speechless.
"Clang!" A group of Dovenian heavy swordsmen raised their shields to block the arrows falling from the sky. Under the sparse barrage of arrows, the Dovenian heavy swordsmen all showed speechless expressions.
"Damn it! They won't even let people get a good night's sleep!" Balin muttered, a hint of helplessness in his eyes.
"Watch out for stray arrows!" Roland said worriedly, watching the Lordaeron rangers retaliating amidst the rain of arrows.
"Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!" Several soft sounds rang out, and to Roland's astonished gaze, a Lordaeron ranger was riddled with bullets!
"Oh! Dragon God! Thank you for your protection!" The ranger who had been shot down actually got up again and pulled the arrow, half-embedded in his leather armor, out while muttering, "Damn goblins! Their arrows are as soft as they are!"
"Huh?" Roland looked utterly bewildered. What kind of bizarre creature was this? So indifferent to weaponry? Arrows couldn't even penetrate leather armor? Was the system's default leather armor too sturdy, or were they just incredibly weak?
"I can't believe it! These arrows have been fired for hundreds or thousands of years! And they're still in use?" Balin exclaimed, picking up an arrow that had fallen beside him.
“These are our dwarven crossbow bolts! Have they been using the stock left behind by Moria? And they can’t even light the Great Forge!” Balin muttered to himself after examining the arrows.
"King Roland! Tell your soldiers to relax! These arrows are harmless unless they hit unarmored areas!" Balin shouted to Roland, holding up the rotten arrow in his hand.
"Thank you for your good news..." Roland shook his head. There are always oddballs every year, but this year there seem to be more than usual! His men, fully armed, don't look like they could be penetrated by those flimsy arrows! Who gave them the courage?
"Kill! Don't let them get a foothold!" The Dovenian heavy swordsmen couldn't wait to wreak havoc. They mustered their fighting spirit and swung their greatswords, easily cleaving the goblins in two, sword and all.
“Your Highness! The knife is rusted!” A royal guard handed Roland a captured weapon; the once sharp dwarven standard-issue sword was now rusted and broken in two.
"Looks like they've raided the dwarves' inventory again..." Roland shook his head helplessly, glancing at the battle sword that was practically history. No wonder Balin was able to conquer Moria with just a few dozen dwarves and successfully reclaim the lost territory... So the enemies were all armed with weapons like this? Come to think of it, he had been so focused on the giant troll that he hadn't even noticed how pathetic these goblins' weapons were.
"Be careful, don't let things go wrong!" After patting Caslo on the shoulder and handing him command, Roland walked aside and hid behind his shield to watch the show.
"Over there on those stone pillars! Rangers, help clear them out! There are too many enemies! Don't let them surround us!" Caslo commanded methodically. To be honest, this wasn't a battle, it was a massacre! These goblins, while not exactly unarmed, were definitely the worst of the worst...
In fact, the outcome of the battle was already decided the moment Roland discovered the ambush. Countless goblins still struggling to climb were shot down by the Lordaeron rangers on their way down the pillars. Any enemies who tried to gather together would be met with a storm of blades from the Dovenian heavy swordsmen. City guards and dwarves also divided the battlefield. Apart from the royal guards who were protecting Roland and watching the show, everyone else was like they were on a picnic. The feeling of having silly goblins climb down and be chopped down just by standing under the pillars was incredibly satisfying!
……
"It's over?" Roland watched the battle gradually subside, feeling as if his bed had been defiled. The severed limbs were too disgusting. Roland frowned as he looked at the crooked goblin corpses and felt nauseous.
"Let's pack up and make do with this place! Remember to tell everyone to put their shields on their heads! They probably won't attack twice, but what if they do?" Roland seemed to say.
"Yes, Your Highness, get some rest!" Caslo shook his head. These goblins are truly despicable! Ever since entering the Misty Mountains, they've been tormenting everyone's nerves. Now, everyone wishes they could crush every goblin that appears before them.
