Chapter 299 The Figure Breaking Through the Clouds
"Damn it! We have to go in! We can't keep wasting time with them like this!" Merck Leopold parried a thrusting halberd while simultaneously severing the orc's neck with a single stroke of his sword.
"The orcs are holding us off! We can't break through! We can't keep fighting!" Luke Leopold roared as he fought.
“We excel at charging and breaking through enemy lines, not close-quarters combat! Besides, we don’t have a numerical advantage!” Luke Leopold said to Merk Leopold.
"We can't keep fighting like this! We only have a little over four thousand men left! If we grind them down two more times, our entire legion will be gone!" Merck Leopold, his eyes red, slashed down an orc.
"Watch out for the flanks! They're trying to surround us! Brothers! Move to the left! Don't get trapped!" Luke Leopold immediately recognized the orcs' pincer attack. The Swift Footmen, whose flanks were weak, were terrified of this pincer tactic because it would expose their unprotected sides.
"Whoosh!" The swift infantry on the left flank immediately turned to their left, leveled their chevaux-de-frise, and successfully crushed the orcs before they could prepare.
The orc stared in disbelief at the human legion that was flexibly changing formations right in front of him, completely stunned.
"Damn scum! Turning around and running away so fast?" the orc cursed angrily at the rapidly maneuvering and changing direction of the Swiftflow Legion.
"Hold them back! Await the arrival of the masters! We need to stall them! Once the masters arrive... they're doomed!" a hoarse voice of an orc lord rang out.
"Kill! Stop them! We'll make them pay in blood!" The orcs were extremely familiar with and hated the Lagrange Dragon Banner!
……
"General! They can't get in! Otherwise, we should go out and meet them!" Apophis Breo said anxiously.
“Come back! Are you looking for death?” Renault grabbed Apophis Breo’s arm.
"Are you crazy? How do you plan to get out of here with tens of thousands of orcs down there? How many soldiers are there in the city? If you're going to die, don't take everyone with you! Can't you calm down?" Renault scolded him with exasperation.
"Calm down? Calm down my ass! Our reinforcements are almost all dead! All dead! Look, at least two thousand have fallen! If we don't come up with something soon, these two Swiftflow Legions will be wiped out!" Apophis Breo said, pointing at the large army charging left and right below the city.
"But you can't just lead your men to their deaths! Without the cover of this fortress, we're nothing!" Renault sighed helplessly.
The two men clenched their fists and stared intently at the Swiftflow Legion below the city, which was fighting like a trapped beast. At this moment, the orcs' encirclement was tightening. Although they kept trying to break through the orcs' encirclement, the huge difference in numbers made their counterattack increasingly difficult.
……
"I've split open, brother!" Merck Leopold gasped, warily eyeing the orcs before him.
"Calm down! Don't give us any openings! Go, take your men and maintain formation! We can't keep running around like headless chickens!" Luke Leopold said slowly.
"We'll adopt a defensive formation! Use spike walls to hold them off! Hopefully, the Imperial reinforcements will arrive soon, otherwise they'll just be collecting our corpses!" Luke Leopold ordered, casually muttering a complaint.
"Click!" As the Swift Infantry formed a circle, lowered their shields, and extended the chevaux-de-frise through the gaps, the entire battlefield fell into an eerie silence.
……
"Huh? Aren't these damned orcs attacking anymore?" Merck Leopold asked, looking at the hesitant orcs in the distance with a puzzled expression.
"Damn it! They just stop moving because I'm not moving, right?" Luke Leopold snapped, his anger reaching a breaking point. "These guys are pretty smart!" Merck Leopold exclaimed in surprise, watching the orcs actually confront him instead of charging mindlessly.
“There’s an orc lord here! And he’s not low-ranking!” Luke Leopold’s pupils contracted, his eyes filled with a palpable sense of gravity.
"Damn it! No wonder these orcs are so intelligent! They're being commanded!" Merck Leopold exclaimed in realization.
"Stop reminiscing! Be careful! Retreat to the center of the formation! Don't get beheaded by the high-ranking orcs!" Luke Leopold warned, knowing that these two ordinary generals would be a matter of a single skill among professionals.
"Oh!" Merck Leopold responded and obediently disappeared into the ranks of soldiers.
……
"Hurry! Several days have passed!" Caslo urged Ajax through the air, his heart filled with anxiety and extreme worry for Renault in the Lulong Fortress.
"Wait a minute! Hold on!" Ajax then realized just how terrifying the Storm Dragon was when it unleashed its ultimate speed! Was it all just a joke all along?
How could Ajax know that Kaslow had already activated Kaldo's skill to accelerate flight, a speed that the Blazing Winged Fire Dragon could not match!
"The Swift River?" A glint of light flashed in Ajax's eyes, her beautiful gaze filled with longing.
"Lower altitude! We're going to find Lulong Fortress!" Caslo pulled on the dragon reins, and Kaldo immediately understood, lowering his head and beginning the descent.
"Oh! Here it comes!" Ajax replied in her mind, and like Caslo, she lowered the dragon's flight altitude.
……
"Big brother...we need to think of something quickly!" After several shifts, the sky gradually darkened. The Swift Infantry lit bonfires within their enclosed defensive line. The warmth of the bonfires quenched the soldiers' somewhat cold bodies, and the firelight illuminated the direction in which everyone was advancing!
“No chance! Don’t move!” Luke Leopold replied calmly, casually deflecting several orc arrows.
"Now we can only test our patience!" Luke Leopold shook his head. He was also helpless. He didn't know what to do against the rogue orcs. After all, the orcs had seen through his defensive strategy! If the orcs didn't fall for his trap, they would have no choice but to hold their line to the death.
"Damn it! If we make it out alive this time, I'll definitely have the soldiers practice javelin throwing!" Merck Leopold complained, noting that mid-to-long-range attacks were a major weakness of the Swift Infantry.
……
"Huh? Did you hear something?" Renault's expression suddenly changed.
“What?” Apophis Breo asked in confusion.
“Dragon’s Roar!” Renault uttered two words softly.
"Roar!" A clear and stirring dragon's roar echoed through the clouds.
……
"Brother! There's a dragon!" Merck Leopold exclaimed in alarm, having clearly heard the dragon's roar.
"Calm down!" Luke Leopold said, but he was actually panicking inside!
"Pfft~" A huge azure body tore through the sky, and a graceful azure dragon burst out of the clouds!
