The Lord of the Rings: Lords of Middle-earth.
Chapter 360 Guerrilla Warfare
Leaving aside Luo Xin Babri, who was currently speeding along, Roland was staring blankly at the map. The boy was practically obsessed, constantly wishing the Chariot Civilians would appear before him so he could lead his men into battle. It wasn't that Roland was warlike; compared to enemies lurking in the shadows, opponents exposed to the light were more reassuring. There's no such thing as a thousand days of constant vigilance against a thief. Besides, Roland's knights could use Glory, and his centaur knights could use Fate Bond. Unless the opposing side had at least two Tier 6 or higher combatants targeting them, the Chariot Civilians would have a hard time forcing them into Fate Bond or Glory status in one go. Even worse, the Chariot Civilians couldn't even wear down Roland's mobile legion by depleting their battle spirit… Therefore, Roland was now eager to give these forgetful Chariot Civilians, who were attempting a westward expedition, a big surprise!
"Damn it! This isn't the Western Regions! And you're not a Central Plains dynasty! What the hell are you conquering the west for? What's there to covet in this remote, impoverished place in the North?" Roland thought to himself. Even if it were something to covet, they couldn't possibly breach Erebor! Unless Sauron personally led the campaign or the Ringwraiths arrived in force, the gates of Erebor would remain a permanent source of pain for them!
Roland now feels a chill run down his spine. Provoking Smaug was such a suicidal move; Thorin and Bard will probably never know they survived a peak-level Scourge-level magical beast. To put it more simply, these people provoked a near-divine beast and didn't die…
Yun Feng discovered this by chance while dismembering Smaug's remains. He was nearly paralyzed with fear upon seeing Smaug's body, thinking his king had dug up the dragon tomb on Dragon Island! Smaug already possessed a faint divine aura, albeit only a trace, which Yun Feng, a sixth-tier professional, could clearly sense. After all, Middle-earth no longer had gods, but the legends of the gods still circulated in the world. All professionals' pursuit in cultivation was nothing more than becoming a true god, ascending the divine throne, and condensing a divine spark…
It's easy to imagine how dramatic their recapture of Irubor was. If it weren't for Tolkien's scripted murder mystery for Smaug, Thorin's ashes might have been scattered by now, since the dragon could conveniently provide them with a complete funeral service.
However, Roland suddenly felt a pang of sorrow upon thinking of this, because the most powerful dragon in the world had fallen, and the skies would now be dominated by dragons. Dragons, wyverns, and other dragon species would never have the chance to reach the top again, and the dragon race would never allow dragons like Glad and Smaug to have a chance to rise to prominence.
Roland even suspected that Dragon Island was now in a state of division, after all, the black dragon Ankaragan was a pure-blooded black dragon! Coupled with Morgoth's group of strange dragons, it was hard not to wonder if the dragons had made some kind of deal with this first Dark Lord.
……
"Quickly! Make way! Border intelligence! I need to see His Highness!" Luo Xin Babry waved his command flag and charged straight toward Roland's residence.
A rider galloped wildly through the town of Delwin. Some knights tried to stop him, but upon seeing the crimson command flag he was waving, they had no choice but to step aside, for anyone who obstructed an urgent military operation would be executed!
"Giddy up!" Suddenly, a child of no more than four or five years old rushed out from the road. He looked helplessly at the galloping warhorse and met Luo Xin Baburi's ferocious expression. He immediately sat down on the ground and burst into tears.
"My child!" The child's mother suddenly let out a shrill scream. You know, if you are in the way of the scouts who are delivering military intelligence, whoever gets trampled or run over is just unlucky.
"Give it a go!" Luo Xin Babry yanked the horse's head sharply. The already exhausted Sharma's eyes reddened with pain, and it leaped up, barely clearing the child who was slumped on the ground. Only the mother, who was still crying in fear, and the child, who was still in shock, remained behind.
……
"Bang!" Luo Xin Babry, holding a crimson military intelligence flag, slammed open the gate to Roland's residence amidst the hesitant gazes of the two Lagrange knights.
"Your Highness! Your Highness! Help!" Luo Xin Baburi screamed in agony as he scrambled and stumbled inside.
"Hey! His Highness is over there, you've come to the wrong place..." one of the onlookers pointed in a direction.
"What's going on... Holy crap!" Seeing an indescribable object suddenly pounce on him, Roland instinctively kicked it away.
"Ouch... Your Highness! Help! Help me!" Luo Xin Baburi was kicked so hard that he rolled seven or eight meters away, breaking two of his ribs.
"Huh?" Roland looked closely and realized... he had kicked his own scout away? "Holy Light!" Roland healed him while pulling the unlucky Luo Xin Babry to his feet.
"Your Highness! Sixty miles southeast of Delwin Town... our scout team has encountered the enemy! The vanguard numbers over 500 men! The captain is leading his troops to hold off the enemy! We request reinforcements!" Luo Xin Babry grabbed Roland's hand, his eyes filled with anxiety.
“Caslo!” Roland was taken aback, then immediately said that it was a matter of life and death, and it was too late to rely on the Knights. Only the Dragon Riders could get to the battlefield quickly.
"Yes!" Caslo bowed his head.
“Take Ajax to the place he mentioned and find our people!” Roland said, frowning.
“Understood, Your Highness!” Caslo bowed with his hand on his chest.
"Don't worry! Everything will be alright!" Roland reassured Luo Xin Babri, noticing the anxiety and worry in his eyes.
"Assemble the troops! We're going on an eastern expedition!" Roland said to the knights beside him.
"Yes, sir!" The knights bowed and left.
"Your Highness," Badr said, approaching Roland and patting his chest.
"Yes, gather your troops and come with me!" Roland nodded. After all, he didn't have many men this time, and he didn't plan to bring the heavy cavalry. The two hundred or so knights were enough. The survival rate of heavy cavalry against the chariot warriors was too low. Without the blessing of glory, Roland dared not let those iron cans clash with the battlefield.
“Where your thoughts lead, that is where my sword will point!” Badr said, pounding his chest. His piercing gaze startled Roland.
"Pfft! Who taught you to flatter? You've learned how to suck up now!" Roland teased.
"Let's go! We need to stop those people quickly!" Roland shook his head.
"Your Highness, are you afraid that the vanguard of those chariot warriors will charge over?" Badr asked, taken aback.
“They’re not good enough! Five hundred men aren’t enough for two dragon riders to kill!” Roland shook his head. The five hundred vanguard men couldn’t possibly carry large attack equipment, so their deterrent effect on the dragon riders was zero. The two dragon riders could easily crush them with their eyes closed.
