The Lord of the Rings: Lords of Middle-earth.
Chapter 545 Falling Asleep Immediately?
"Damn it!" A deep sigh echoed in the void before fading away.
Radil's silent spellcasting caught the orcs completely off guard! The powerful war magic, Savage Thorns, wiped out the entire group of orcs, leaving the remaining panicked orcs to scramble and flee.
"Really, the sixth... indeed, everything ultimately ends up with the sixth." Roland was also stunned by Radil's words. Could it be that the kind-faced Radil had this side to him?
……
"My lord..." the orc warrior turned his head and looked at the empty space beside him, whispering.
A necromancer lord, clad in a black cloak, wearing a twisted crown of thorns, and wielding a blade of the dead, slowly appeared before the crowd riding a demonic dragon. He seemed to have come from the void, silently appearing beside the orc warrior.
"Tear~" He gently pulled open the scabbard of the Blade of the Dead in his hand. The once kingly sword had become obscure and evil under the erosion of time and darkness. Chaotic dark energy mixed with specks of silver light wrapped around the blade...
"Stop the attack!" he whispered.
……
"Heh, an old friend! Void Lord Uvasa! The Nine Rings are here! I should have known it was him!" Verway spat.
"Tsk tsk tsk! A new look? This is pretty cool!" Roland rubbed his chin and clicked his tongue in amazement. After all, compared to riding the Nightmare, the Demon Dragon and Uvasa's temperament were a better match.
"Let's hold him off!" Yun Feng and Verway exchanged a glance and took to the air to prepare to fight Uvasa. As the ninth Ringwraith, Uvasa's strength was among the top in the Ringwraiths! It would take at least two Tier 6s to defeat him, not to mention that Yun Feng was a Tier 6 who was not a combatant.
As soon as Yunfeng and Caslo took to the air, Uvasa chuckled and disappeared into the air, leaving only his mocking laughter in the air.
This almost made Yun Feng and Vervier spit out blood, nearly causing internal injuries. The feeling of punching a pile of cotton only intensified their desire to kill Uvasa.
"Rest and rotate the troops!" Marcus glared at the orc army with hatred, then chose to lay down his arms. He decisively replaced the soldiers and pushed the civilians who had just taken up arms onto the city wall.
"This isn't good... Should we leave some soldiers behind?" Roland suddenly felt insecure looking at the drastically reorganized garrison. The huge city of Jiliu was being defended entirely by militia. The stark contrast made Roland regret having piled all his troops into the fortress.
“The soldiers need to be thrown into the most intense battlefields; those elite troops shouldn’t be wasted here!” Marcus explained, adding that in the current situation, it would be a crime to let the soldiers expend their energy on guard duty.
"You can arrange it as you see fit." Roland shook his head and chose to delegate authority, since the current situation was beyond his control.
……
“We’re outnumbered!” Marcus thought to himself in alarm. The city’s soldiers were pitifully few. The ordinary soldiers were all supported by the remnants of the Crusaders and the 200 light infantrymen (who had now been armed as heavy infantry). The professional soldiers, apart from the 200 Royal Guards, consisted of only 50 Lordaeron Rangers and 149 Plains Elf Rangers…
These men guarding the vast city of Swiftstream were practically useless... they wouldn't even make a ripple on the walls. The only consolation was that Swiftstream still possessed a mobile force capable of turning the tide of battle: 15 Crossbred Knights and 100 heavy cavalry led by Knight Commander Lavian, plus a mobile force of over 300 centaurs commanded by Baldr. In some ways, their combat power was comparable to the Holy Knights! After all, the centaurs' Fate-Binding Skill and Glory Skill were based on similar principles! It was as if Roland had suddenly gained 300 weakened knights who were essentially one with their riders!
For Marcus, this battle was far from over! He had faith in Lavian's combat skills! He believed he would infiltrate the enemy lines at the most opportune moment!
After scanning the area several times, Yunfeng and Verway landed one after the other. After all, flying in the sky consumed a lot of magic and battle energy. It would be like finding a needle in a haystack for the two of them to catch Chengxin and their hide-and-seek with Uvasa. So the two changed their strategy and retreated back to Swiftstream City to play a strategic intimidation game with the Ringwraiths!
Thus, the highest combatants from both sides left their seats, leaving only a contest of who was worse. The most cunning thing was that the Ringwraiths quietly interfered with the Griffin Knights' hunt for the trolls. If it weren't for Yunfeng and Valway's quick reaction, Roland's already meager Sky Knight force would probably have become an "air force"! "Mother Earth, bless me..." Radil leaned on his staff and chanted incantations, quietly reciting obscure magic spells. Then, he pointed his staff, and a siege tower not far away was immediately pierced through by spikes, the ever-growing spikes shattering everything in his way.
"Huff, huff, huff!" After releasing the spell, Radil clutched his chest and gasped for breath.
"Damn it! My magic is all gone again!" Radil complained, then took out a low-level magical beast's magic crystal and began to absorb it. In just a few minutes, Radil had completely absorbed the crystal.
"They're coming up again!" Marcus's expression changed. These orcs really never stop. They've only rested for a few minutes, are they in such a hurry to die? Marcus couldn't help but think to himself.
"Soldiers have scaled the wall!"
"Never forget our glory! We swear to defend the King to the death!"
"People! The time has come to defend our homeland!" Roland roared, drawing his Dragon Slayer Sword first.
"For His Highness!" the crowd shouted in unison.
"For the Kingdom!" Roland roared.
"For our homeland!" everyone shouted, and at that moment, everyone's morale reached its peak.
"Radil! Shield!" Roland's voice interrupted Radil, who was still replenishing his magic power.
When Radil opened his eyes, he was so startled that he almost dropped his staff from the city wall. A huge green fireball was flying towards him.
"Necromancer? Damn it! By the Dragon God! I will kill this bastard who blasphemes the elemental gods!" Without saying a word, Radil drew his staff and engaged in a magical duel with the mage hidden among the orc army. Various magical skills collided with each other's shields, creating quite a spectacle.
"Ivy! Lead the priests to help the wounded!" Marcus said anxiously. At this moment, the orcs below the city had begun to hurl arrows at the city walls. Fortunately, Swiftstream City was not short of equipment. The plate armor and shields that were originally intended to be sold to the south were urgently used to arm the able-bodied men.
"Raise your shields!" the soldiers mixed in with the militia commanded, now acting as junior officers.
"Those orcs are coming up! Your Highness! Please retreat to the castle!" Marcus glanced anxiously at Roland, who was still standing there, and immediately prepared to go up and drag him away.
"I'll back off! Die!" Enraged, Roland swung his Dragon Slayer Sword and with lightning speed sliced off the skull of the orc that had just emerged. The orc fell off the ladder without a sound.
"It's good to be young, you can fall asleep as soon as you lie down!" Roland said as he stabbed another orc who climbed up to his death with his sword.
While Roland was having a good time dealing with those "young and lazy" orcs, Marcus was feeling uneasy. After all, the king, the core of the nation, was fighting on the front lines, and Marcus wanted to advise him but didn't know how.
"Kill! For the King!" Marcus glanced at King Roland, gritted his teeth, and roared as he joined the melee.
However, the situation was still relatively favorable. The orcs were stabbed down by the Lagranges crouching behind the battlements before they could even peek out. With both sides' high-end combat forces tied down, the entire battlefield resembled a harmonious contest of who was the weakest. The armed civilians were already so weak it was embarrassing, but the orcs' combat strength was even more astonishingly poor. The two sides even engaged in a tug-of-war over a simple siege ladder...
