Chapter 549 I'm waiting for reinforcements, what are you waiting for?
Yun Feng's spiritual power was ultimately something that Uvasa feared. Apart from the two powers of holiness and evil, only the spiritual (soul) power, which has an infinite upper and lower limit, could shake the power of space. After all, this thing has a high upper limit and a low lower limit, so there is no such thing as a range of strength.
A sixth-tier sage may not have strong battlefield command capabilities, but in one-on-one combat, they are incredibly oppressive! If you don't believe me, just ask a certain ring spirit whose soul fire almost dissipated after being attacked.
However, Yun Feng was not as nonchalant as Roland appeared. In fact, compared to Verway's close-combat attacks, the duel between Yun Feng and Uvasa had risen to the soul level, which made things interesting because the defense at the soul level is much weaker than that of the physical body.
So, the result of their recent clash is that both of them are now holding back a mouthful of blood. The difference is that because Ringwraiths exist in a state between soul and body, the damage to their souls manifests on their physical bodies—the unhealable wounds are a sign of soul damage. Yun Feng, on the other hand, although his soul is injured, it doesn't show on his face. However, he still pretends to be nonchalant, and only after their gazes collide across a thousand meters can a trace of fear be seen in their eyes.
What Uvasa feared was that Yun Feng's terrifying mental power could actually influence the void! What Yun Feng feared was that Uvasa could actually injure his soul.
As a result, both sides' sixth-tier warriors withdrew from the battlefield shortly after entering, and the entire war returned to square one. Verway lay down off the city wall, while Yunfeng and Uvasa continued their standoff, trying to kill each other with their eyes.
"..." Roland slumped against the city wall and sat down on the ground, his eyes filled with exhaustion and helplessness. The person who broke the deadlock was now useless, and now they could only continue to tug at the stalemate with the orcs. They couldn't possibly let old man Adile come and dedicate his youth to the kingdom!
"Huh? Why did the orcs retreat? They fought halfway through the battle, then stopped fighting and then retreated?" Roland looked at the orc army lingering outside the attack range with some confusion. After all, the orcs had just managed to climb onto the city wall with great difficulty, and the militia had worked hard to confine them to a small area. He didn't expect the orcs to give up this advantage.
“They look like they want to wear us down!” Marcus said after a long pause.
"Huh? Is this guy an idiot?" Roland exclaimed in surprise. Doesn't this guy understand the principle of speed in war? Who gave you the courage to waste time and engage in a protracted standoff in someone else's capital?
"Maybe...maybe...maybe this Ringwraith has chivalry!" Marcus stammered, finally blurting out a random guess.
"..." What the hell is chivalry?! Do you believe I'm Qin Shi Huang or that the Ringwraiths have chivalry? Roland really wanted to ask that back. Now Roland finally understood how Mordor lost the Battle of Pelennor Fields. Was it because those old Ringwraiths dragged their feet and finally made Gondor realize what was happening and call in reinforcements?
Could this cerebral palsy-stricken ring spirit really think he has no reinforcements? No way, no way! None of us know anything about this! He still has a cavalry unit wandering outside! And a thousand-strong army of professionals whose whereabouts are unknown!
"Forget it, let's just play it by ear!" Roland was happy that the orcs weren't attacking the city. Who was afraid of wasting time? He had his system to buy food; there was no shortage of water or food in Swiftstream City. Let's see who outlasts whom. If Lavian and Baldr caught them off guard, the orcs would be in big trouble! Or if the dwarves or elves were free to attack, they'd be in even worse shape! Venturing deep into enemy territory alone carries the risk of total annihilation!
……
February 10, 2944, Third Era.
"Are these orcs out of their minds? Is Nine Rings an idiot?" Roland stood on the city wall, somewhat bewildered. The orcs outside the city had been lingering for a week! They'd practically devoured all the surrounding grass! Oh, and it's worth mentioning that the magic plantation and chicken farm outside the city had been completely ravaged by the orcs. Fortunately, the inventory and Snowwing Chickens had been moved into Swiftstream City, and after a post-battle cleanup, they could be put back into use. "So they're really living right outside my door?" Roland blinked, looking at the orc camp where they spent their days catching fish and rats. "Come and fight! Can't you see how big Swiftstream City is? If you're not going to fight, then leave! There's not a single orc in three directions; you've just been searching for nothing! What? Sauron's treatment of you was too poor, so you've brought your men to defect?"
Uvasa's divine maneuver left Roland speechless! No way! I'm waiting for reinforcements, what are these bastards waiting for? The Griffin Riders scouted the route and didn't see any follow-up troops! The battle at Lulong Fortress is still raging! And you, a detachment, are here camping and sightseeing at the gates of Jiliu City?
"Does he know that a force has already circled around behind them..." Roland's lips twitched. Ravian, who had been somewhat wary, had already led his men to circle around behind the orc army.
"I'm afraid they don't know, they don't know our reinforcements are coming soon, do they?" Marcus covered his face and smiled bitterly. The caravan had rushed back day and night, and they had now arrived at Los Saint-Neil on the other side of the river... The White Wing King had assembled a force of five hundred infantrymen and two hundred cavalrymen to cross the Swiftflow River and rush to the aid of Swiftflow City!
“We still have 1,400 combat units outside the city. This battle is going to be tough!” Marcus silently calculated for a moment and then reported a number to Roland.
“Not bad, should be enough! It’s time to get rid of these bastards from outside my city!” Roland squinted at the orc camp in the distance.
“We need a suitable strategy to defeat the many with the few. If we go in blindly, our chances of winning are not high!” Marcus nodded.
“No rush, Ruhr and the others need rest! It would be a crime for them to immediately throw themselves into battle after traveling day and night!” Roland frowned.
“Of course!” Marcus nodded as well. After all, a king who cares for his subordinates is always more beloved by his soldiers, isn’t he?
"We still need to launch a surprise attack in this battle." Yun Feng, whose face was a little pale, walked over leaning on his staff. It was clear that the aftereffects of that day's battle had not yet healed, and the trauma to his soul was always difficult to recover from.
"Are you alright?" Roland asked with concern. He knew Yunfeng was seriously injured when he got back that day. After all, his wife, Nyx, was also a third-tier water mage. Her spellcasting, whether in bed or out of bed, was perfect. So, she had more authority to speak on this matter than Roland. The first time she saw Yunfeng, she noticed that he looked as if his body had been hollowed out. It wasn't until she asked Roland that night that she understood the cause and effect. The couple pondered it in bed for a while and finally concluded that Yunfeng's injury was serious. Of course, there were some twists and turns in the discussion. After all, Roland, who was full of anger, still needed Nyx to use water magic to cool him down.
"It's alright, they won't die! The most urgent thing is to find a way to disrupt the orcs' formation! There's no other way but to attack!" Yun Feng shook his head, after all, the disadvantage in numbers and quality didn't give them much room to maneuver.
