Chapter 588 Sailors and Fishermen!
“This is the former Palembang…” Omsk looked at the tributary of the Swift River on the opposite bank. After all, the swift river only has one tributary in the Dark Forest that goes deep into the foot of the Dark Forest Mountains. The opposite bank is Palembang, so the location is very easy to identify.
"The past is like fleeting clouds, and the once prosperous port of Palembang has been eroded by the passage of time," Ajax said with some sadness. After all, women are emotional creatures, prone to melancholy and sentimentality, even a dragon knight is no exception.
Is this our future home?
"It looks so desolate!"
"Your Highness means we want to rebuild the imperial port here!"
"Another huge project..."
"Come on, old Parker, the title is beckoning you. Even if you don't want it, you can consider your son."
"I'm more worried about the monsters in the water; we don't have a navy to protect us..."
After two days of trekking, the pioneers saw the knightly order ahead stop and realized they had arrived at their destination. The pioneers began to discuss it amongst themselves.
……
“It is indeed a problem. Our people are all farmers. Are these landlubbers really okay making a living in the water?” Roland frowned.
“We have no choice but to hope they can adapt.” Omsk shrugged, after all, they still needed to adapt to the lifestyle of the port city.
The pioneers had already set up their tents, which were neatly arranged in rows under their organization. This land would be where they would build their houses in the future.
"Your Highness, the makeshift dock is ready..." a pioneer reported to Roland.
"Alright! You guys can familiarize yourselves with this thing!" After taking a galleon out of the system space, Roland casually placed it on the dock. Although many of them had fished on boats, they were still extremely unfamiliar with steering and sailing.
As a port city, its main mode of transportation in the future will definitely be shipping, but at present Roland does not have professions such as sailors and fishermen.
"Okay!" Some of the one-star adventurers began to board the ship and diligently tinker with everything on board, after all, learning takes time.
……
Night fell quickly. This was the first time Roland had spent the night outside in a long time. He lay on the grass, gazing at the sparse starry sky. Only a few stars twinkled intermittently, like the few remaining sparks of civilization in Middle-earth.
"Have the night patrol personnel been arranged?" Roland asked, turning his head as Caslo approached.
“That’s Omsk’s business. I’m only responsible for your safety!” Caslo shook his head. Compared to everything else, Roland’s safety was of course more important.
"Remember to leave your and Ajax's dragon aura behind; it'll deter those magical beasts!" Roland instructed. "Okay." Caslo nodded. Actually, any magical beast that dared to approach them would be incredibly foolish! The aura of the three dragons was undisguised; no brainless magical beast would dare to court death. Even wild dragons would tuck their tails between their legs and proceed with extreme caution, after all, three dragons already constituted a small group. (Apart from the Smurfs, all of Roland's dragons are male...)
Nothing more was said that night. Roland eventually fell asleep while looking at the stars. Caslo then used his battle aura to carry him back to the tent. Caslo dared not let Roland sleep on the open ground; while sleeping under the open sky might seem carefree, it would actually make him easy prey for Nyx later...
"System! Sign in!" Roland rubbed his eyes and said this as usual early in the morning.
"Congratulations, host, on successfully checking in! You are rewarded with 1000 sailors and fishermen!"
"Huh? What I was thinking of has come true?" Roland snapped out of his sleepiness with a quick reflex, after all, he desperately needed sailors and fishermen!
"There's a boat!" Before Roland could figure it out, someone shouted, and everyone grabbed their weapons and ran toward the dock.
Roland looked up and his eyes narrowed for a moment before relaxing again. A dozen galleons, clearly of the Lagrange style, were coming towards him, not to mention their tattered dragon flags fluttering in the wind.
"My God! We're not dreaming! It's the remnants of the Empire and their army!" A group of jubilant civilians rushed off the ship, including many young men carrying daggers and shields; they were clearly sailors!
"Halt! Before you stands the King of Romanian! The sovereign of the Lagrange Empire! The lord of Swiftstream City! His Highness Roland, the current King of the Lagrange Kingdom!" Omske unleashed a surge of battle aura, instantly intimidating the chaotic sailors and fishermen.
"Your Highness? The King is here?"
Upon hearing this, the people knelt down on one knee to pledge their loyalty to Roland, and soon a large number of them knelt down.
"How are you all doing?" Roland asked with concern. After all, these people were future technical talents. Whether it was steering or fishing, Roland desperately needed people, especially fishermen! They were talents who could fill the current food shortage in the kingdom! There were so many fish to catch in the Swift River, but the fish harvest in Swift River City had always been dismal. Although the quantity was still huge, it was still pitiful compared to the amount of fish in the Swift River.
“Your Highness, we are doing well! Better than ever before! It is our honor to meet you!” said a woman with a child. Clearly, the system’s 1000 members included women and children.
"Omske! Settle them in! Remember to distribute food to them!" Roland turned and directed.
"No need, Your Highness, we have enough rations, so we won't trouble the kingdom!" An old sailor stepped forward, clearly a respected figure and one of the leaders among them.
"Take it, the kingdom won't let its people suffer from famine!" Roland nodded firmly, knowing that famine wouldn't happen again! Roland guaranteed it with his own wallet! He had spent all his money on food in the system shop to prevent the famine that had occurred before; the frustrating feeling of being helpless and desperate was too unbearable.
After some initial refusals, the newly arrived residents accepted Roland's gifts and compensation. Roland also asked them to teach the pioneers how to sail and fish. The simple and honest Lagranges readily agreed, since they were all their own people and there was no generation gap. They became familiar with each other after just a few words.
In just a few days, a wooden town rose from the ground. The two dragon riders were the biggest contributors, as they cut down timber from an entire forest to build the giant port.
As the port city slowly took shape, it became a respectable sight. Although small, it was fully equipped and even had vendors hawking their wares. The Adventurers' Guild's sign was the first to be hung up, and soon Omske issued a series of quests. Although the quests were not high-level, they would not leave the adventurers idle.
……
“It’s time to leave!” Omske said to Roland. In just over a month, a small town had been built up thanks to the efforts of all parties. Now Roland just needed to wait for them to update and develop on their own. One day, it would grow into a behemoth like Palembang!
"Alright, let's go!" Roland quietly departed with the knights on horseback. The busy town of Palembang didn't even flinch at Roland's departure. In fact, no one knew that Roland had left. After all, the Palembang residents, who were too busy to even have time to care where their king had gone...
