Chapter 659 Windhelm Town
Chapter 659 Windhelm Town
“Hmm.” Ymir nodded without saying much. After all, these civilians were indeed weak. Although they had no shortage of prey, the hunting party had to consume most of their food to maintain their strength, so there was not much left for the women and children. Therefore, it was only right that they replenished their bodies.
"Hello! Take your men, grab the fishing nets, and come with me!" Ismir called to his squad leader, Hello.
"Yes, sir!" Haro immediately put down the tent he was holding and led the Nature Guardians team, along with their fishing nets, to the banks of the Swift River.
"Ymir, take them and set up the tents, and while you're at it, clear out some debris and make a clear space!" Ismir said, looking at the overgrown wasteland.
“Okay!” Ymir nodded.
……
"Be careful, all of you! I sent you fishing, not to feed the fish!" Ismir pulled a soldier back from the water and immediately used magic to summon vines to wrap around their waists. After all, the Swift River was beautiful and full of fish, with many large creatures and even aquatic magical beasts. The fishing boats in Palembang and Swift River were equipped with professionals and had defensive and dispelling magic arrays inscribed on them, which showed that fishing was a dangerous business.
"I'm sorry, sir!" the soldier said, blushing as he was pulled back.
"Be careful!" Ismir shook his head and said helplessly.
"Sir, are these enough fish?" Haro asked, tossing the fish, strung together with vines, onto the carriage beside him.
"Are you feeding a cat? Is that enough soup for over a hundred people?" Ismir glanced at it. Good heavens, taking back only twenty or thirty fish the length of an arm is an insult, isn't it?
"Good heavens! A fish's on! Help me pull it in!" Suddenly, a nature guardian was almost pulled into the water by the fishing net in his hand. He bent down and desperately pulled back to the side, calling for help from the crowd.
"Whoosh!" Ismir didn't stand on ceremony and, disregarding all martial ethics, threw out several vines to help drag up the fishing net.
Soon, with the sound of fish splashing and struggling in the water, the bag of fish was pulled ashore by everyone working together. At a glance, there were at least twenty or thirty white fish. Haro immediately ran over happily to kill and process the fish.
"Huh? Why is there so much smoke?" Suddenly, someone turned around unintentionally and found that thick smoke had been rising from the camp behind them, which made everyone's hearts jump.
"Run!" Ismir's pupils contracted and he immediately sprinted away. Haro behind him grabbed a spear from the ground and chased after him. The others also seemed to wake up from a dream, grabbed their weapons, and ran back panting.
……
"You..." Ismir ran back to the camp, panting, and was about to speak anxiously when he suddenly noticed Ymir squatting on the ground. Following Ymir's gaze, he saw a group of hunting party members lighting fires with torches, women and old people slowly tidying up and setting up tents, and children running wildly in the clearings created by the fire. They had never played so happily before, and they never dared to make any noise before... Ismir and his group returned dusty and stood there, somewhat at a loss.
"Where are the fish?" Ymir frowned. Twelve people went out and couldn't even catch a single fish? Are fish these days that clever?
"I thought the camp had been attacked! I was by the river watching thick smoke billowing out! I was so scared I threw away all the fish!" Ismir said irritably, thankfully it was a false alarm.
"Hurry up with the fire, I didn't expect it to bring you back, sir..." Ymir shook his head, not expecting Ismir to react so strongly.
"Good heavens! Go take a look at the river! Thick smoke billowing out, you'd think a forbidden fire spell had been used!" Ismir smacked his lips.
"Alright, everyone's waiting for dinner!" Ymir stood up and waved his hand, signaling Ismir to get back to work.
……
"Where is Ymir?" Ismir, leading the wagon back, looked around. Ymir, who had been sitting there just moments before, was gone, along with the hunting party and his own settler. "My lord, Lord Ymir said he was going to bring back some wood and stones. Shall we cook first?" Old man Ad appeared and told Ismir what Ymir had instructed him to do before leaving.
“Alright! Let the women come and cook!” Ismir nodded, making way for the cleaned white fish that had already been placed on the carriage behind him.
"Come and cook!" Ade clapped his hands, and immediately countless hungry children surrounded him.
Ismir quickly ordered the soldiers to distribute the iron pots and other cooking utensils he had prepared. The men hurriedly rummaged through the pots and other seasonings and handed them to the women.
"Squeak!" The sound of the heavy wheels was so loud it made one's teeth ache. Ismir looked in the direction of the sound and saw Ymir, who looked like a small mountain, carrying a log. Behind him, an armored earth dragon was carrying several logs, and behind them was a row of wagons piled with logs as thick as a human head.
"Where did you get all this stuff?" Ismir's mind hadn't quite caught up yet.
“They’re everywhere!” Ymir pointed to the forest in the distance.
"No...no, how did you chop them down? With a spear or a longsword?" Ismir glanced at the logging axes still piled up on the open ground. They had unloaded everything from the carts to load wood. If they didn't have axes, did they use swords to chop them down?
"How did you know? It's the sword!" Ymir looked at him with a "you're so smart" expression and raised the greatsword in his hand. The three-meter-long sword gleamed with a cold light!
"..." Ismir pursed his lips and remained silent. Was this logging really not a waste of resources? The neat cuts on the logs were clearly made by battle qi cutting.
"Did you use a skill to cut down the tree?" Ismir scratched his head.
“Yes! One slash and it cuts down a whole bunch of enemies!” Ymir weighed the greatsword in his hand, and Ismir felt the earth tremble.
……
After eating fish soup and bread, the women and children began to go into their tents to rest. It was getting late, and the sun was about to set below the horizon. Meanwhile, Ismir and Ymir and a group of men were working hard to tamp logs into the ground, trying to create the beginnings of a village.
"Let's get the logs tied up today, and then we can build slowly later!" Ymir stood up a log and laid her greatsword flat, striking it like a hammer.
“I think it would be better if we built a simple stone fortress first. If we encounter danger, everyone can go into the stone fortress for refuge!” Ismir said. The so-called stone fortress is the prototype of the lord’s castle. The original purpose of the castle was to protect the common people who depended on the surrounding area.
“That works too. I’ll take some people to collect stones tomorrow!” Ymir nodded. Wooden and stone walls didn’t provide a sense of security. A simple stone fortress would make everyone feel more at ease. Even if they were invaded, they could retreat into the fortress and he was confident he could protect everyone’s safety. After all, fighting in a confined space was exactly what he was good at!
“By the way, sir, you should give your territory a name! You’ll need to report it to the king later!” Haro reminded him from the side.
"Name? What should I call him?" Ismir's eyes darted around.
Suddenly he noticed Ymir's helmet lying to the side. A gentle evening breeze was blowing, and the wind whistled as it passed over the helmet.
“Let’s call it Windhelm Town!” Ismir smiled, firmly believing that Windhelm Town would one day become Windhelm City!
It's dawn! Let's get those monthly tickets going! Everyone stand up!
