Chapter 681 Backlash
Chapter 681 Backlash
It's important to understand that Divine Words belong to the highest tier of forbidden spells. The Divine Word we just discussed even had a suffix: "The Chant of the God of Light!" Essentially, it's a demigod-level power! It even involves profound rules and principles, such as the power of the God of Light. Ten sages who can use forbidden spells might not even have one who can use Divine Words. And sages who can use Divine Words have another title: Great Sage!
This means that Adolf Heinrich was a genuine Great Sage! After all, those above the sixth rank possess god-level power, and they are qualified to come into contact with the rules of divine power. It's just that those who can use divine speech can use the rules of divine power to a greater or lesser extent.
"A top-tier light-type forbidden spell, nothing to be surprised about!" Adolf Heinrich waved his hand at Roland and smiled wryly. As expected, it was still too much of a stretch. He couldn't use the complete version of the Light God's chant, but even this half-finished version was frightening enough!
"Do you know what the ultimate goal of that thing is? Divine Word: Descent of the God of Light!" Roland exclaimed excitedly. If the Divine Word technique could be developed to its final form, the result would be the Descent of the Gods! Possessing the power of some divine rules, it would transform into an avatar of a god and wield some of the god's authority!
"It's not that easy." Adolf Heinrich smiled wryly. The Divine Descent Technique was no longer a forbidden spell; it was on another level—a divine forbidden spell!
As the highest-level derivatives of divine speech, forbidden divine spells undoubtedly return to their most primal power, unlike the various flashy effects of grand forbidden spells. They are simply the purest divine power, authority, rules, and abilities! The divine rules derived from divine speech of different attributes are also different, but the forbidden divine spells derived from the chanting of the God of Light will definitely summon the power of the God of Light!
"At least there's hope!" Roland chuckled, though he knew the chances were slim. After all, once the divine power descended, the next step was godhood! And the world rules of Middle-earth seemed to have been shattered by the dragons, severing the path to godhood... If anyone had the best chance of igniting the divine fire and ascending to godhood, it would undoubtedly be that bastard Sauron. After all, he was already a demigod, possessing both divine fire and divine essence; all he needed to do was sit on the throne to become a true god!
"I'm more concerned about whether those Ringwraiths are dead or not!" Caslo said quietly. Compared to their discussion about becoming gods or demons, he was more concerned about whether these scumbags in front of him were actually dead!
“It seems not…” Verway finally managed to interject. With his exceptional eyesight, he immediately spotted the deserted battlefield in the distance. According to the principle of finding either the living or the dead, the Ringwraiths had undoubtedly fled. Divine Word spells might obliterate their physical bodies, but they wouldn't destroy their equipment. The scattered orc armor and weapons on the ground contained none of the Ringwraiths'. It was obvious where they had gone…
"Yes, that's normal. I thought of that a long time ago!" Adolf Heinrich shook his head weakly a few times. The backlash from overdrawing his spellcasting made his brain feel like it was being stabbed with steel needles.
"The power of the war clouds is too strong! The dark energy accumulated over thousands of years won't dissipate in a short time! Injuring the Angmar Witch-King is already a bonus!" Adolf Heinrich forced a smile, seemingly quite indifferent. Although he knew that the chanting of light wouldn't kill the Angmar Witch-King and his companions, these three lads were definitely not going to be well, not to mention that all the orcs at Gombada Fortress were left behind as interest!
“That’s right, slaughtering these elite orcs will cripple Gombard Fortress, even if it doesn’t die!” Apophis Breo smiled broadly. Although everyone was disappointed that the Ringwraiths hadn’t died, all the low-ranking orcs were gone! The final chant of light shattered the defensive shield of the war clouds. Although the Ringwraiths and high-ranking orcs led by the Witch-King of Angmar had escaped, all the low-ranking orcs had been purified and vaporized! That was an army of tens of thousands of orcs!
……
"Your Excellency Adolf Heinrich! Are you alright?" Roland grabbed Adolf Heinrich when no one was around and whispered with a frown.
"I'm fine!" Adolf Heinrich shook his pale face, trying to hide his unease.
"..." Roland pursed his lips, speechless. If it weren't for the system interface displaying "Adolf Heinrich (seriously injured)," I would have actually believed what you said!
"Forced spellcasting can backfire and kill you! What are you still hiding?" Roland said through gritted teeth in a low voice. Was this guy planning to fake his death?
"Huh? You noticed?" Adolf Heinrich was clearly taken aback.
"I didn't! Your face is whiter than that milky white snowflake! Do you think I could tell? Your breathing is as disordered as a wild horse! Guess if I could tell? I really couldn't!" Roland said irritably.
"I've already taken the medicine, and my injuries are fine for now. I just need to go back and rest!" Adolf Heinrich shook his head, signaling Roland not to make a fuss. After all, who knew if the Ringwraiths could sense or notice this place? As someone who could use Divine Word as a trump card, he couldn't show any weakness outside!
"Your Highness Roland, thank you for your rescue..." Apophis Breo excitedly grasped Roland's hand, his face filled with excitement and gratitude. "No need to thank me. It's because you were strong enough to hold out until reinforcements arrived, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to help you." Roland shook his head and said truthfully. If Apophis Breo and the others hadn't been able to withstand the first wave of attacks, then Roland would have been left only to collect their corpses and seek revenge.
“Focus on rebuilding and restoring the territory! You’ve suffered too much this time!” Roland frowned, patted Apophis Breo on the shoulder, and sighed.
"Alas, the circumstances don't allow it, otherwise I would certainly have treated you all to a very good meal!" Apophis Breo sighed, somewhat uneasy.
"Don't worry about these formalities. Helping the people settle down is the important thing!" Roland said dismissively.
"Your Highness, please forgive me!" Apophis Breo could only nod.
"Roland! Roland! Roland! Oh dear!" Suddenly a voice like a ghost calling out came from behind. Roland immediately looked around. He thought he had just heard Balin's voice.
"Down there! Down there! Ouch! What are you doing! Look down there! I'm down there!" Balin jumped up and down on the earthen slope below, carrying his battle axe.
"Hey Balin! I didn't see you just now!" Roland smiled awkwardly and reached out to pull Balin up.
“You can see me if you just look down! I’m a dwarf!” Balin gestured to show his height; it would be a miracle if Roland could see Balin at eye level!
"Hahaha! Bahrain is very happy to see you, thank you for your help!" Roland hugged Bahrain.
"Wow! The Axe of Turin! A divine artifact!" Roland exclaimed in a low voice. He had obviously discovered the strangeness of Balin carrying the battle axe through the system's detection. The system notified him of the discovery of a divine artifact as soon as he touched it.
"You have good taste!" Balin raised an eyebrow in praise, clearly pleased with Roland's discerning eye. Not many people could recognize the Axe of Turin, and even among the dwarves, few were qualified to wield it. After all, that thing required a true dwarf king to use! How many dwarf kings were left in Middle-earth?
"By the way, didn't I hear there were elves? Where are the elves?" Roland asked Balin. He knew that the elves and dwarves had gone to help the people evacuate, but now that the dwarves had returned, why hadn't the elves come back?
