Ten thousand I am across the heavens

Chapter 2260 The Will of Civilization

The Yeti Legion has always been one of the most elite legions in the world. In terms of cultivation level, not only would the underground base not have so many fourth or fifth-rank cultivators, but even the entire Northern Plains combined wouldn't have that many. They couldn't even muster a fraction of their numbers.

This level of raw power should be the absolute pinnacle of strength in a world beyond immortals, unmatched by anyone. However, after forming an army, they failed to demonstrate this level of dominance.

One reason is their lack of experience in exploring the various capabilities of the legions. The underground bases, having been trained by numerous legions, have become proficient in the application of legions. They, on the other hand, only managed to complete the initial steps through trial and error, imitating the enemy.

Ultimately, there are still some abilities that the legions are unfamiliar with and unable to use, so even though they are strong enough in this area, they have not demonstrated their dominant and suppressive power in terms of cultivation.

Another reason lies in their willpower. They haven't truly recognized their own identity, haven't truly fought for their race, or for the greater good. Their willpower is definitely lacking, especially since they were raised like commodities in a greenhouse from a young age. Most Yetis haven't experienced real-world setbacks and hardships. Their inner maturity and mental fortitude are also somewhat lacking.

All these factors combined resulted in the fact that although the Snowman Legion was once very strong, it was far from matching the powerful cultivation levels of the individual Snowmen.

But now, with a continuous stream of wills gathering, and with the addition of the underground base and their becoming allies, the Yeti Legion is gradually revealing its ferocious side through the sharing of knowledge about building the legion.

The snowmen experienced some of the biggest setbacks in their lives, and many even shed their first tears. This cruel blow of facing the harsh truth, while brutal for the snowmen, was also the best opportunity to temper their spirits.

Having weathered this setback, the Yetis who emerged from their ordeal were essentially free of weaknesses on a spiritual level. The will they displayed for the greater good of their people, coupled with the renewed fighting spirit bolstered by the underground base, finally brought their willpower to a point where it wouldn't hinder their cultivation. And even if it were merely a hindrance, it would already make their overall strength surpass that of any current legion.

At this moment, Duan Yun felt as if something even more magnificent than the will of the legion was converging upon him. He could vaguely sense that this will did not belong to the snowmen before him. It was the blood-red will accumulated after countless snowmen had perished tragically on the grasslands.

Even attempting to bear just a tiny fraction of this will made him feel his spirit on the verge of collapse. This crimson aura was far too magnificent, but the spiritual will within it was also far too frenzied; even the strength of an entire legion could only bear a drop in the ocean.

Although he didn't know exactly what was going on, he had a vague idea. The Yeti race should, or rather, was bound to, develop such a crimson will; even compared to other superhumans, the Yeti were almost the most miserable.

Other special humanoid races, after becoming slaves to humans, were merely exploited for their skills in their respective fields. The Hairy People exploited their Taoist cultivation abilities, forcing them to concoct Gu poisons; the Feathered People exploited their flying abilities; and the Stone People exploited their ability to find rare ores.

Unlike other races, the Yetis's expertise in ice and snow isn't particularly valuable. Their greatest treasure is the three times they can cry in their lives, tears that can only be shed in a state of extreme sorrow.

Those who sold them into slavery resorted to any means necessary to force them to shed those three tears, subjecting them to inhumane torture using every imaginable mental and physical method. Every yeti enslaved by humans died in utter despair, in a state worse than death. And this was the fate of countless yetis.

This cruel fate has persisted since humanity's complete rise to power 300 million years ago with the birth of the first Venerable One, overwhelming other races. This has continued for a full 300 million years, a geological era for the planet and a significant period in biological evolution. For any single race, such a long time is more than enough for them to evolve from birth to extinction.

However, the Yeti race did not become extinct; their immense value allowed them to survive. But precisely because of this, over these 300 million years, they accumulated an enormous amount of crimson will, as trillions of Yetis perished during this long period. This crimson will has remained dormant on the grasslands, embedded in the very places where each Yeti met its tragic end, awaiting the emergence of a vessel capable of bearing it, awaiting its revenge against humanity.

The Heavenly Court of Zhongzhou, fully aware that the Destiny Gu would ultimately bring destruction to humanity, still clings to it. This is precisely because they know that the various races, suppressed by humanity, have long harbored immense resentment. If a collective backlash were to erupt, even the currently powerful human race could be wiped out overnight. As the pillar bearing the weight of humanity's fate since its rise, the Heavenly Court must prioritize the survival of the human race above all else. They must preserve the Destiny Gu at all costs, maintaining humanity's destiny of prosperity.

Even if destiny exists, if too many defiant individuals can break free from it at the same time, the situation cannot be fully controlled. On the Northern Plains, with the establishment of the underground base, thousands upon thousands of defiant individuals, beyond the surveillance tower's reach, emerged. Furthermore, after being rescued by the underground base, the Snowman Legion completely broke free from the constraints of destiny.

Now they can freely control their own destiny. Although they are still being pushed towards the direction arranged by the Destiny Gu under the influence of the overall environment, this has finally given them the right to come into contact with the blood-red will that has been suppressed.

The current Yeti Legion is far from capable of bearing this will. However, even inheriting only a small portion of its power has caused their legion's strength to rise rapidly. But after sensing the madness and vengeful intent within this crimson will, Duan Yun promptly stopped deepening his connection with it. Continuing to forcibly bear an even larger will was not impossible, but that would cause the will to control them in return. In the past, being manipulated by such anti-human sentiment wouldn't have caused them any concern, but now, after being taken in and rescued by the underground base, their perception of humans has changed, especially towards those around them.

The other snowmen could also feel their connection to the crimson will severing, but most of them did not resist. Although the people in the underground base had always been their enemies, only recently saving them, this kind of enemy felt completely different from the enemies of other immortals.

The two sides are more like sworn enemies with mutual respect than irreconcilable adversaries. There is no hatred between them; in fact, there is a sense of kinship. The reason so many Yetis agreed to carry out the plan is largely because many Yetis wanted to take this opportunity to repay a debt of gratitude, to settle a life-saving debt so that they wouldn't hesitate to fight back if they were ever enemies again. If they were forced to oppose the underground base while still indebted to it, they would truly have no face to face their opponent.

Even though the connection was broken in time, they were still affected to some extent in that short period of time. Their aversion to humans increased somewhat, but it was still within the limits of their rational suppression. After all, this aversion was mainly directed at the immortals who had cruelly tortured them, and it didn't have much of a sensory change for the ordinary people in the underground base.

The legion also gained a new, readily available crimson will. This will granted them a brand-new killing move, no less powerful than their initial ice and snow manipulation technique. Moreover, this move didn't require their own resources; it relied on burning their crimson will to sustain it. In other words, if they opened their hearts and allowed the crimson will to infect them, this move would be virtually an infinite source of energy, with an almost endless supply of crimson will. This meant its output power reached an unbelievable level.

While they can no longer unleash the power of the Crimson Will without restraint, their killing move is still incredibly powerful. Furthermore, this move complements their existing techniques and is remarkably simple: it ignores all the negative effects of low temperatures, allowing them to control the temperature of a region around them at will, maintaining it at a comfortable level. And it doesn't suffer any additional heat loss due to thermal radiation or convection.

This trick might seem ineffective. Snowmen already have a strong resistance to low temperatures. It may appear to be just a simple icing on the cake, but it's actually quite effective.

Snowmen can live comfortably in environments as cold as -70 or -80 degrees Celsius. Just like humans, they won't be in any immediate danger of death in environments around 10 degrees Celsius, even without warm clothing.

However, if the temperature drops by only 10 degrees Celsius, reaching zero degrees Celsius, it would be difficult for humans to survive without any protective equipment. If it drops another 10 degrees Celsius, reaching minus 10 degrees Celsius, death would be almost certain without clothing.

Even snowmen have limited cold tolerance; they cannot withstand low temperatures indefinitely. Once the temperature reaches below -10 degrees Celsius, even a snowman's physique would struggle to withstand such temperatures and would suffer real harm. The extreme low temperatures that snowman armies can generate can sometimes reach below -150 degrees Celsius. Under extreme conditions, such as a once-in-a-decade snowfall, this figure would become even more alarming.

Such extreme low temperatures are unbearable even for them, and more importantly, for their other equipment and their comrades. They might even freeze the Gu worms they use to death. This means that in such frigid environments, only a very limited number of Gu worms can be used, resulting in a pitifully small number of possible killing techniques.

Now, with a weapon that ignores freezing temperatures, the Yeti Legion can disregard the damage they suffer in ultra-low temperatures and focus entirely on lowering the surrounding environment. With the aid of certain equipment, they could even condense the air into liquid. One can imagine how terrifying the Yeti Legion's combat power would be in that state. In their upcoming mission, the massive snowstorm across the entire grassland will be concentrated, creating temperatures of at least minus 100 degrees Celsius on the battlefield. Under such conditions, with the Yeti Legion operating without restraint, it's possible that the ambient temperature will approach absolute zero.
Even in this world, if the temperature truly reached absolute zero, everything would come to a standstill. No matter moves; all movement ceases at such low temperatures. If the temperature were to drop to that level, everything around would be as if time itself had stopped. Only the Yeti Legion is immune to the extreme cold and unaffected. Some people can only stop time for ten seconds before claiming to rule the world. This entire legion, however, can achieve a near-time-stopping effect.

Having reached this point, in terms of developing their legion capabilities, they are no less capable than today's top-tier legions.

However, while the Yeti possess the Crimson Will, so too do humans. More precisely, they exist at the bottom of society, countless mortals living like ants, their lives ending in a day. Under the oppression of immortals and even ordinary superhumans, they too have accumulated countless Crimson Wills. Although their lives are not as miserable as some other races, and they lack a unified will to govern them, in terms of sheer numbers, these endless mortals far exceed the total population that the Yeti have had over millions of years.

As the supreme commander of the underground base, He Cheng, while commanding the entire army group, could sense the faint presence of a blood-red will, and even mobilize a portion of it to empower the legion. This was something he had only recently discovered, and thus had never tested in actual combat.

Beyond that, as he declared war on the eldest son, aiming to demonstrate their responsibility as the future protagonists of this world, the people themselves gradually realized that each of them was qualified to compete for the position of the next era's protagonist. This awakened a power that had been dormant in the subconscious of hundreds of millions of people. This shared, directional will began to coalesce in a legion-like formation. Without a legion-based system, this collective unconsciousness would be almost undetectable, ultimately distributing itself evenly among everyone, making them more diligent, brave, and resilient.

However, within the framework of the Legion, this collective unconsciousness that forms a community of will is easily discovered and can be exploited.

He Cheng didn't know what to name this collective will, but after discussing it with several scholars who had the deepest research on the legion system, he named it the Will of Civilization!
