America 1881: They Call Me Legend

Chapter 409 Imperial Commissioner

Riley sent a telegram to the headquarters of the Pacific Coal Company.

After reading the telegram, Manager Weber was so angry that he called his assistant over and scolded him.

"This is the good detective agency you recommended!" He threw the telegram on the table.

The assistant's head was full of mud.

He didn't understand why the telegram ended up on Weber's desk without going through him.

Although the assistant's face was terrified, his mouth was still firm:

"It doesn't make sense. The Frontier Detective Agency has a good reputation. Their commissions have never gone wrong. How could this be?"

Weber squinted at him:
"You ask me who I ask?"

The assistant shook his head:
"There must be some other reason." He picked up the telegram, read it over and put it down again. "Or let's send someone there."

"You go!" Weber nodded.

The assistant's face became bitter: "Manager, can you change someone?"

"Mike, as a human being, you have to be responsible. Whoever breaks the blame will solve it." Weber said earnestly.

He flipped another report out of the drawer and put it on the table.

This is a financial statement.

"The strike has lasted for a month! You have delayed at least three weeks of it. If this situation continues, the loss of the coal mine will be unacceptable to investors!"

He looked at his assistant Mike blankly.

"At that time, I will definitely have to leave, but don't worry, before I leave, I will let you idiots get ahead of me!"

"Huh?" Mike stood there not knowing what to say.

"So, give me an explanation." Weber patted the table again and looked out the window.

What else did Mike want to say.

Weber was suddenly furious, he stood up and threw the report on the assistant's face:
"Go away now?!"

Riley had a particularly difficult time waiting for a reply from headquarters.

Before, he had to guard against the threat of Chinese laborers day and night, but now he has to guard against Hanif and his detectives.

He didn't intend to provide food and shelter for these detectives at first.

But Riley soon discovered that this matter was not based on his will.

From time to time, the Chinese workers hung around in groups of threes and fours holding guns at the door of the material warehouse of the No. [-] mine.

There is not only food, but also all kinds of valuable things from the coal mine.

He and the mine staff alone are completely unable to protect the safety of these materials.

So, it was up to Hanif and his detectives.

It has to be said that in terms of security and protection, the detectives of the Border Detective Agency are very professional.

Not only did they protect the warehouse of the No. [-] mine, they even crossed the river by boat and protected the No. [-] mine together.

Plus Riley doesn't have the power to rescind the contract.

Therefore, the detectives of the Frontier Detective Agency are still popular and hot; Hanif finished reading a novel, and went to the town to buy three or four more; the workers continued to strike, and they even had a party across the river.

Everyone except Riley is doing well.

A few days later, Mike came to Shiquan Town with the people from the headquarters.

"You guys are finally here!" Riley held Mike's hand.

This scene seemed familiar to him, but he believed that Mike was one of his own, so the result would definitely be different.

"What the hell is going on?" Mike pulled his hand out of Riley's and gave him a sideways glance. "What are you doing?"

Riley was taken aback.

How come what am I doing?
"It's not me, it's the detectives of Frontier Detective God and their captain with the mustache!" Riley explained with difficulty, "He didn't do anything when he came!"

"Take me to see!" Mike's face was gloomy.

Riley took Mike to the wooden house where Hanif and the others lived.

"That mustache just sits in the room and reads novels every day. I can't do anything about him."

Riley spoke and pushed open the door of the cabin.

But his words stopped abruptly.

No one else was there except for two detectives who were resting on their shifts.

Hanif was not there either.

"Where's your boss?" Riley asked, frowning.

"Going to patrol, he said that during the strike, every corner of the coal mine must be kept safe!" replied the detective.

"Humph!"

Mike glanced at Riley, snorted angrily, and led the people away.

Riley quickly followed behind.

They wandered around the No. [-] well before finding Hanif at the door of the material warehouse, who was directing the reinforcement of the roof.

"Be alert! If those Chinese laborers come to attack, we must control the situation as soon as possible to prevent the loss of the employer's supplies!"

Hanif stroked his beard and shouted with his arms crossed.

Mike was silent.

"What are you pretending about now? Is this what we hired you to do?"

When Riley saw Hanif, he was furious.

"Or else?"

Hanif turned his head and stared at Riley inexplicably.

"Then I'll go?"

"Stop acting here! I've reported everything directly to Mr. Weber! He's aware of the details. Look, Mr. Mike is not here."

Riley was also ready for a verbal argument with Hanif.

"shut up!"

Mike couldn't bear it anymore, and interrupted Riley's words with a loud drink.

Riley was scolded, completely confused, and couldn't tell the difference between south, east and north for a while.

Mike gave Riley a hard look, pulled Hanif aside, and whispered in a voice inaudible to those behind him:

"Mr. Hanif, although we have a good relationship, you can't cheat me like this."

"Huh?" Hanif turned his head to look at Mike, a little confused.

"I recommended you in front of the general manager, but you have been here for almost a month, and you haven't done anything?" Mike complained.

"You've wronged me by saying that!" Hanif was not convinced, "You see, we have been here for so long, has anyone been injured in the mine? Has your company's property been damaged?"

"Well, well, I know this, you guys are doing a good job, but I mean, you guys are here to solve the problem." Mike explained patiently.

But Hanif jumped up:
"Solve the problem? The manager of your mine gave me a good idea!"

His voice was full of anger, and suddenly amplified, and the people behind could hear it!

"He asked me to start a killing spree, to kill those who took the lead in making trouble!"

"You're talking nonsense! When did I say that?" Riley tried to defend himself when he heard Hanif lash out.

Hanif made a head-scratching gesture: "You said, 'If it really gets to that point, it's not impossible, but it can't make too much trouble', right?"

"It was clearly proposed by you! I just agree with your proposal." Riley was a little annoyed and couldn't choose what to say.

"I'm talking about shaving your head, what are you talking about?" Hanif retorted without showing weakness.

"I, I..." Riley's mind couldn't turn around.

Mike's face had turned a liver color.

He walked up to Riley and poked his shoulder with his finger:
"You have guts! Just pack up and get out!"

Riley froze in place.

What happened was telegraphed to the headquarters by Mike in a short text.

The reason why the strike could not be resolved was mainly that the coal mine manager in Shiquan Township acted excessively and intensified the conflict.

A telegram from headquarters came back quickly:

Tell Riley to go, and you stay with the Border Detective Agency to settle the strike for a week.

The implication is that if you can't solve it, you will end up no better than Riley.

Looking at Riley's back with his bundle rolled up and cursing.

Mike didn't say anything.

He didn't know that Riley was wronged.

But someone has to take the blame for this month's delay.

This person must not be the border detective agency recommended by him. If there is a problem with the border detective agency, he will not be able to escape.

Nor will it be the overseers.

These people are not qualified enough.

It seems that it can only be the unlucky coal mine manager.

Mike happened to find him extremely unpleasant.

The coal mine management is like you, and you still have the face to leapfrog the report. After so long, you have been mixed into the dog's stomach.

If you don't take the blame, who will take the blame? If you don't get out, who gets out?
