Tomb Raiding: My Family's Last Clan Chief is Little Brother
Chapter 23 The Perilous Ghost Ship
Chapter 23 The Perilous Ghost Ship
Zhang Wuxun didn't have time to argue with Wu Xiaoxie right now, because the sea monkey was about to come out.
The iron gate slowly opened, and a bolt of lightning struck just then.
It's started raining again.
As soon as the sea monkey showed its head, Zhang Wuxun swung his knife with both hands and slashed at its neck.
No matter how strong its defenses are or how resilient it is, its neck is always its weak point.
Sure enough, the sea monkey, baring its fangs and extending its sharp claws to attack, stopped and instead turned to protect its neck.
Zhang Wuxun's attack wasn't intended to kill it. With a flick of his wrist and a side slash, one of the sea monkey's claws drooped down, and a stream of foul-smelling green liquid gushed out from the severed point.
The sea monkey's huge, ugly face, covered in scales, became even more ferocious from the intense pain, roaring as it reached out with its other claw to grab Zhang Wuxun.
Zhang Wuxun blocked the attack with his knife, leaped up from the ground and stomped heavily on the sea monkey's belly, sending it staggering back two steps. Then, the instant he landed, he delivered a spinning whip kick to the large iron gate and twisted the disc lock with one hand.
With a clang, the iron gate slammed shut, seemingly hitting something heavy.
Zhang Wuxun dared not delay any longer and quickly ran to Wu Xiaoxie, who was standing there dumbfounded in fright. He slapped him on the head and said, "What are you still standing there for? Are you waiting to be fed to the sea monkeys?"
Wu Xiaoxie then realized what was happening and, not daring to ask any more questions, climbed onto the deck with Zhang Wuxun's help, and then took the unconscious A Ning up with him.
"Hurry up, that iron gate won't hold for long."
Baldy Zhang, carrying a backpack he'd somehow found, ran quickly toward them.
"Come on!"
Zhang Wuxun rested his hands on his knees, lowering one shoulder to make it easier for Zhang the Bald to gain leverage.
After Zhang Tu Tou got up, he threw the knife and backpack to Zhang Tu Tou, then grabbed the other's outstretched hand and used it to climb up as well.
Baldy Zhang waved to the boatman to bring the boat over.
The group returned to the fishing boat, the engine had been repaired, and the boat quickly sailed away from the area.
Zhang Wuxun looked back, but the ghostly ship had vanished.
On the deck, Zhang the Bald borrowed some cow hair from the captain and was working on the human face sticker stuck to the back of A Ning's head.
Zhang Wuxun glanced at it, then gripped his knife and returned to the cabin. He then threw himself onto the cot, closed his eyes, and fell asleep.
After all, swimming in the waves and fighting with sea monkeys kept me on edge the whole time, and I couldn't hold on any longer once I relaxed.
I slept very soundly that night.
Zhang Wuxun was awakened by the aroma of fish. He sniffed and thought, "Mmm, spicy, so damn fragrant."
Lifting the coat covering her body, Zhang Wuxun rummaged through her backpack for mouthwash and a towel, quickly washed up, changed her clothes, and yawned as she poked her head out of the cabin.
"Moyu, you're awake! Come here quickly, the timing is perfect."
Wu Xiaoxie spotted Zhang Wuxun with her sharp eyes, waved enthusiastically, and even prepared a bowl and chopsticks for him.
"Thanks." Zhang Wuxun nodded, walked over, pulled out a chair and sat down. A familiar face was sitting opposite him. "Hey? Long time no see, Fatty."
Wang Pangzi was pleasantly surprised to see Zhang Wuxun. "Oh, isn't this our treasure chest? What a coincidence! Hehe, with you here, I feel much more at ease on this trip." Zhang Wuxun curled the corners of his mouth and picked up a piece of fish. "Thank you for your kind words."
The fat man picked up a piece of meat, slurped it up, and sighed with satisfaction, "How about it? Fatty's cooking skills are pretty good, aren't they amazing?"
Zhang Wuxun gave a thumbs up and nodded in agreement, "Indeed, it's just as good as my grandmother's cooking."
That's a lot of exaggerated praise, but there's no denying that the meal the fat guy cooked was really delicious.
The fat man said smugly, "Congratulations, you guys, you've discovered another good quality of mine."
Zhang the Bald Man sat down on the stool between Wu Xiaoxie and Zhang Wuxun as if they were old friends, found a bowl and chopsticks for himself, and started eating without saying a word.
The fat man was confused for a moment, then asked Zhang Wuxun, "Who is he?"
Zhang Wuxun ate too fast and burned his tongue; he was panting heavily as he looked up at the sky.
Seeing this, Wu Xiaoxie replied for him, "Zhang Hao, Professor Zhang, is a consultant hired by A Ning's company."
"Oh~" The fat man glanced at him strangely, "So you're a professor. I guess I was blind and didn't realize you were such a cultured person. I'm sorry, Professor Zhang, please don't take it to heart."
Zhang Wuxun burst out laughing. Fatty was indeed a professional at teasing people.
Bald Zhang seemed oblivious to the fat man's implication and chuckled, "No, no, meeting is fate, we're all friends. It's just that I'm usually too low-key, so it's normal that Mr. Wang didn't recognize me at first."
The young man was cunning; he subtly managed to get back at the fat man, whose face darkened, looking like he wanted to curse.
But Zhang the Bald didn't seem to notice and pressed on, asking, "What does Mr. Wang do for a living?"
Upon hearing this, the fat man glanced at Zhang Wuxun and the other man who were watching the show, and coughed, "Well... to put it simply, I'm actually an underground worker."
Baldy Zhang immediately bowed respectfully and said, "So you're a police officer. My apologies for not recognizing you."
Wu Xiaoxie couldn't hold back and burst out laughing, earning him a glare from Fatty.
Zhang Wuxun smiled and smoothed things over, "Come on, let's stop talking now, or Xiaotianzhen and I will eat all the fish slices."
Upon hearing this, the fat man immediately abandoned Zhang the Bald and reached into his bowl with his chopsticks to scoop fish slices.
Baldy Zhang also joined the fray to grab the fish.
After eating and drinking their fill, the group lay lazily on the deck, enjoying the sea breeze and sunshine, so comfortable that they almost dozed off.
Wu Xiaoxie felt he couldn't slack off any longer, so he got up and went back to the cabin to check the backpack that Zhang the Bald had brought back from the ghost ship.
He had already seen the contents before; they were left by his third uncle. Ah Ning also said that the ghost ship was the survey vessel that their company had sent out before.
But the more he looked at his third uncle's notebook, the more confused he became, and the fog surrounding him grew thicker and thicker.
What exactly happened between Uncle Three and Chen Wenjin in the underwater tomb back then? And is the person named Zhang Qiling in the corner of that group photo the same Zhang Qiling he met at the Lu Palace?
Wu Xiaoxie racked his brains but still couldn't come up with a solution, so he sighed helplessly.
