Chapter 33 Crimson Flames and Red Marks (Revised)

A deathly pale face was facing Wu Xiaoxie, but its pupils were glowing with an eerie, beast-like golden light, which startled Wu Xiaoxie so much that he screamed and almost fainted.

The stone wall completely closed at this time.

The young man drew his dagger and lunged at the figure, but stopped abruptly when he saw the person's face clearly.

"Wooden fish?" Wu Xiaoxie also realized what was happening, staring at the man's face in disbelief, "What the hell are you doing here?!"

Zhang Wuxun did not answer. He quickly glanced at the three people, and after confirming that they were all unharmed, he closed his eyes and slumped against the cave wall.

The sight of him covered in blood startled Wu Xiaoxie so much that she didn't dare to support him too hard, fearing that she might accidentally worsen his injuries.

"Fatty, come help me hold the wooden fish. Let me see where he's injured. Why is he bleeding so much?" Wu Xiaoxie's voice was trembling. Zhang Wuxun's blood-soaked appearance and tattered diving suit were just too damn frightening.

The fat man, ignoring his own injuries, rushed over to help. Seeing the claw marks and bite marks covering Zhang Wuxun's body, he gasped in shock, "Good heavens, where did Muyu go gallivanting? Even if he'd fallen into a wolf's den, he wouldn't have gotten this badly injured in such a short time! Look at this shoulder, good heavens, it almost went right through!"

"How the hell did it shrink after getting injured?" The fat man was so shocked he couldn't close his mouth. "It must have shrunk by at least twenty centimeters."

At this moment, Zhang Wuxun lay on the ground unconscious, looking like a twelve or thirteen-year-old boy. His breathing was weak, his face was abnormally flushed, his lips were pale, and the dark blue-black Qilin tattoo on the left half of his bare chest was fully visible, while the right half had strange reddish-brown flame patterns.

The two tattoos seemed to be competing, their surfaces touching and clashing, neither giving way.

Zhang Wuxun's body grew increasingly hot, his brows furrowed, and his right hand gripped a sheathed longsword tightly.

The young man sensed something was wrong, pried open the man's fingers, and removed the long knife.

The crimson flame pattern seemed to lose its strength in an instant, fading away until it disappeared completely.

The skin under Wu Xiaoxie's hands gradually returned to normal temperature, and the Qilin tattoo disappeared.

The three of them finally breathed a sigh of relief; this ordeal had truly been terrifying.

Wu Xiaoxie quickly pulled over his backpack, rummaged through it, and took out medicine and gauze to bandage Zhang Wuxun's wound.

Because Zhang Wuxun had so many wounds, big and small, they simply wrapped him up, making him look like a mummy.

The fat man was tending to his own scrapes and bruises, glancing occasionally at Zhang Wuxun, who was still unconscious, and guessing, "Hey, do you guys think that Muyu's injuries are because the ghost possessing him controlled him to run to some place full of ferocious beasts, fought three hundred rounds, and then successfully escaped and came back to ask us for help? I saw it clearly, Muyu's eyes were indeed glowing when he first jumped up, but they stopped after he fainted."

Wu Xiaoxie nodded. "Very likely. Moreover, Muyu didn't take his knife with him when he went into the water. This knife should be new. Muyu is left-handed, but he was holding the knife with his right hand just now. What does that mean?"

"Oh!" The fat man exclaimed with a look of sudden realization, "That means the thing possessing the wooden fish is right-handed!"

Wu Xiaoxie choked, then rolled his eyes in annoyance, "This means that the one who attacked Brother earlier was indeed not Muyu himself; he was just being controlled by something or some kind of consciousness."

The fat man nodded repeatedly, "I think your analysis makes a lot of sense."

But Wu Xiaoxie still didn't understand something: "What kind of thing can possess a person and shrink their body? Do you know about it, Brother?"

The young man had been studying the knife, but upon hearing this, he put it down, reached out and touched Zhang Wuxun's shoulder and leg bones, and said, "His face hasn't changed, it's just bone shrinkage."

Wu Xiaoxie breathed a sigh of relief, then asked in confusion, "What is the connection between this knife and the flame tattoo on the wooden fish?"

As he spoke, he tried to reach for the knife, but after struggling for a long time, he could only lift it a little and was panting heavily.

"Damn, this knife is so heavy! It's almost as heavy as Brother Xiao's Black Gold Ancient Sword!" Wu Xiaoxie exclaimed in surprise.

The fat man mocked him for being too weak, then grinned and reached for it himself, nearly reopening his wound. "Yo-ho?" the fat man retorted, "Come on, Little Innocent, let's both put our strength in."

The fat man gripped the knife hilt with both hands and pulled it towards himself, while Wu Xiaoxie gripped the scabbard and pulled it towards the other side.

I pulled for almost a minute, but the knife didn't budge.

The two of them almost had a stroke from anger.

Finally, the young man couldn't stand it anymore and pressed down on the connection between the hilt and the scabbard.

With a snap, the blade popped out half an inch.

The young man casually drew his knife, glanced at the seal engraving on the top, and said, "It's not the original one."

Wu Xiaoxie quickly went over and, using the flashlight, saw the words on it.

"Illusion?"

It turns out not to be.

"The wooden fish's knife is called Skull, but it looks quite similar to this one," Wu Xiaoxie said.

"So that ghost controlled the wooden fish to get this knife?" the fat man asked.

Wu Xiaoxie shook his head. "Let's wait until Muyu wakes up before we ask him."

The three rested against the wall. Fatty pulled over the backpack Zhang Wuxun had left behind. There were only three compressed biscuits left inside. They had thrown away their backpacks earlier when they went up the mountain to reduce their weight. Zhang Wuxun's backpack had been carried up by Xiao Ge.

The three of them shared two pieces and decided to continue on their way.

Wu Xiaoxie wanted to carry Zhang Wuxun on his back, but Fatty stopped him and carried Zhang Wuxun himself, jokingly saying, "Let me do it. If it weren't for Muyu helping me out in time, I would be a pancake by now. By the way, did we take the wrong way? What happened just now?"

The young man shook his head. "It's unlikely, unless someone switched the markings on the stone tablet that indicate the gate to life, and we mistakenly entered the gate to death."

The fat man wondered, "Could it be that woman, Aning? Seeing that we were alright, she still couldn't give up and tried to ambush us again?"

Wu Xiaoxie thought about it and felt it was impossible. "That woman doesn't have that much ability, unless... she's my third uncle."

Upon hearing this, the young man slowed down his crawling speed and began to analyze the situation with Wu Xiaoxie.

Listening to their conversation, the fat man had some ideas. He lowered his voice and pretended to be mysterious, saying, "If you ask me, could it be that your third uncle is also being controlled by the ghost in this tomb, just like the wooden fish? Maybe the one possessing your third uncle is a female ghost. The ghost has been in this tomb for so long, so naturally it knows how to open the Heavenly Gate. Otherwise, why would your third uncle suddenly start combing his hair like a woman?"

“It will definitely be the same this time.” The fat man analyzed seriously, “Once we find your third uncle, we’ll just pour a bucket of black dog blood over his head and force the ghost out, then everything will be fine.”

Although Wu Xiaoxie didn't want to believe it emotionally, she couldn't help but start to have doubts when she thought about Muyu's situation. "No way, I've lived with my third uncle for so long, and I've never seen him act like a woman."

The fat man chuckled, "Maybe that guy's acting is really good."

As Wu Xiaoxie listened to his increasingly outrageous remarks, the little thought that had just arisen in her mind vanished.
