Chapter 45 Hibernation Ends
After paying the bill, the three of them walked out of the food stall.

They walked all the way to the corner where the food stall was hidden, and Wu Xiaoxie couldn't hold back any longer. He asked, "Muyu, what's wrong? Why did you leave so suddenly?"

Zhang Wuxun pulled him to hide behind a car on the side of the road, peeking out a little bit to look over there. Lao Yang saw this and imitated them.

With his night vision, Zhang Wuxun easily spotted a person strolling out of the food stall. After glancing a few times in the direction the three had left, he lowered his hat and walked over.

Zhang Wuxun whispered in Wu Xiaoxie's ear, "Did you see that guy over there wearing a gray windbreaker and a black hat? He's the one who was sitting at the table next to us. You two were talking too loudly earlier, so they've got their eyes on us."

Wu Xiaoxie was startled and squinted at them, "Could they also be sand panners?"

"Most likely." Zhang Wuxun nodded. "What that person meant was that they were asking if we were tomb raiders. I brushed it off, but it seems they haven't let their guard down."

"I can sense the malevolent aura emanating from them, and they also have a strong earthy smell. They are definitely not ordinary people."

Old Yang panicked, "Then, what should we do?"

Wu Xiaoxie cursed, "Then let's hurry back to the hotel."

The man in the black hat was less than ten meters away from them, and was about to reach the corner.

Zhang Wuxun nodded, crouched down, and pulled Wu Xiaoxie around the car. The three of them took another side road and circled back to the hotel.

Zhang Wu asked Wu Xiaoxie, "Did you book a standard room or a single room?"

"A single room," Wu Xiaoxie said. "What, you want to stay with me?"

Zhang Wuxun grunted in agreement and started walking upstairs.

"Hey..." Wu Xiaoxie Erkang stretched out halfway, then quickly pulled back and told the front desk, then hurriedly ran upstairs to open the door for Zhang Wuxun, who was standing in the hallway. "Why do you insist on living with me? Are you afraid of the dark? Here it is, 203."

Zhang Wuxun waited for him to open the door with the key before going in first. He habitually wanted to check the corners, but then realized that pinhole cameras and the like were not as common in this era as they are in later years.

"I'm just worried about you being in danger, so I'm watching over you. With your naive nature, you'd be selling someone out and still be helping them count the money." Zhang Wuxun put his bag on the table, crossed his arms, and sat down in a chair, looking at Wu Xiaoxie. "Your childhood friend Lao Yang, how many years has it been since you two last saw each other? Is he reliable? Why did he call you here this time?"

Wu Xiaoxie chuckled and pulled over a chair to sit down. "Lao Yang is my childhood friend. We grew up together. But later he was arrested by the police for selling antiques and served three years in prison."

Seeing Zhang Wuxun's unfriendly look, Wu Xiaoxie quickly added, "But this time he asked me for a tomb in the Qinling Mountains. You know my limited skills, so I had to ask you to take us down there."

“Moreover, he had been inside that tomb before and marked it. He even took a bronze bell from inside, which was exactly the same as the one we had seen before, only a few sizes smaller,” Wu Xiaoxie said.

Seeing that he was speaking so enthusiastically, Zhang Wu couldn't bear to discourage him, so he said, "Tell me in detail."

Wu Xiaoxie then told Zhang Wuxun about how Lao Yang had approached him and what he had learned so far.

Zhang Wuxun nodded after listening, "Okay, then let's go. I've prepared all the equipment. We'll leave before noon tomorrow. Let's rest first."

After saying that, he took out four sets of disposable bed sheets from his backpack (space), threw two sets onto Wu Xiaoxie's bed, "one for bedding and one for covering."

(The naive chubby guy and the others thought that Zhang Wuxun needed a medium like a backpack to take things out of the treasure chest. Zhang Wuxun didn't explain, mainly because it was hard to explain.)
Wu Xiaoxie had already witnessed Zhang Wuxun's obsession with cleanliness and his fussiness firsthand, so she didn't say much. She spread one sheet on the original bed sheet, covered herself with another, and then covered herself with a quilt.

Zhang Wuxun was awakened by a system notification. He checked the time and it was past 11:00 AM; Wu Xiaoxie had already gotten up and left. [Ding—Qinling Divine Tree storyline activated]

[Mission issued: Protect Wu Xiaoxie as he successfully enters and exits the Qinling Divine Tomb]

[Mission Reward: Materialization Ability (Intermediate), Bonus Reward: Danger Perception Ability (Basic, Perception Range 100 meters)]

[Oh, so you're alive! I thought you were going to let me roam free this time.]
The system will not abandon its host.

[Alright, enough of this nonsense. Let me explain what happened last time. Where did that part of my memory go? It's just retrieving a small ball; why do you have to control my body?]
The system is silent.

Zhang Wuxun grew impatient. "Speak quickly, stop pretending to be dead."
That memory cannot be returned to the host for the time being, and the host is not capable of escaping unscathed.

[Get out unscathed my ass! I'm covered in injuries.]
I'm sorry, I tried my best.

Zhang Wuxun understood, "[So you really went to some extremely dangerous place, and then exhausted all your energy, causing your machine to crash, right?]"
The system is silent again.

[Does that mean you can control my body anytime and do things against my will?]
The system quickly replied: "No."

Host consent required

Zhang Wuxun sneered, "Fine, I'm not going to argue with you anymore. Just send me this part of the plot."
He didn't ask the system about materialization abilities because he knew it would be pointless; the damn system would just play dead.

After processing the plot, Zhang Wuxun got up and packed a backpack for Wu Xiaoxie, just as Wu Xiaoxie returned with lunch.

The three of them had lunch together, checked out of the hotel, and went out.

Lao Yang hired a car, and the three of them got in. Zhang Wuxun pulled Wu Xiaoxie to sit in the back.

Lao Yang stared at Zhang Wuxun and Wu Xiaoxie's bulging backpacks for several moments, but because Zhang Wuxun kept a cold expression, he couldn't help but feel a little scared and didn't dare to ask any more questions.

The most distinctive feature of the mountain road is its winding and circuitous nature, which caused Wu Xiaoxie to get carsick.

Zhang Wuxun then gave him motion sickness medicine and had him cover his eyes and take a nap, leaving a small crack in the car window for ventilation.

After driving for half an hour, an explosion was heard in the distance, waking Wu Xiaoxie.

"What's going on? An earthquake?" Wu Xiaoxie rubbed his eyes and looked out the window.

The driver's Mandarin, thick with local accent, came through: "The three of you are from out of town, right? Someone is blasting up a grave. They do this every few days."

Wu Xiaoxie exclaimed in surprise, "How dare these tomb raiders be so audacious? Aren't the police doing anything about it?"

The driver chuckled and said, "How can we manage it? The mountain over there is different from this one. Although it's only separated by the Jialing River, there isn't even a basic road over there. Unless you can sprout wings and fly over, even someone as resourceful as a policeman would have to travel for a whole day and night. By the time you get there, those people will have vanished without a trace."

Lao Yang stammered, "Listen, listen to this, this noise, isn't it... too much explosives?"
