Chapter 489 The Evil Lord Fishing
Although preparing bait overnight is more effective, there isn't much time right now, so they plan to bait the area now and come back to fish later.

The two used the flattened tin can Zhang Haixing had smashed to pack the prepared bait and groundbait.

Fatty went down to the platform directly below the Lama Temple to prepare for fishing, while Wu Xie continued to work on the remaining useful tools.

Fatty was quite experienced in winter fishing. He quickly found a good spot to bait the area, grabbed four or five handfuls of bait and scattered them about two meters away, creating two baiting spots. He left half a box of bait to replenish the bait when the fish stopped biting.

Wu Xie went back to the second floor, took some things from his backpack, and then returned to the first floor. He sat cross-legged on the floor, ready to make a big splash.

He first used a knife to cut a long glow stick in half, poured out the glowing chemical substance inside, and emptied it into an empty plastic tube. He then put the fluorescent substance into a nearby can for later use. He made a total of three empty tubes in this way.

Then he cut off the longest part of the rubber glove, the middle finger, and blew air into it like blowing up a balloon. He then wrapped one end of the tear tightly with waterproof tape to seal the air inside, making a temporary float.

Then, using the remaining glove scraps, I cut wide strips and wrapped them around half of the tube, and then attached a thin fluorescent label to the round end.

Finally, simply twist the two ends of the float's belly thinner, insert them into the openings of the two halves of the glow stick tube, and wrap the joint tightly with waterproof tape. By piecing together the three parts in this way, you can make the simplest and most practical fishing float.

After scattering his bait, Fatty bounced back with his sleeves tucked in. Seeing that he had already prepared all of this, he exclaimed in surprise, "Hey! I must say, you're just as clever as I was back in my day. When I was a kid, I used reeds to float my fish, but we don't have any here. I was just thinking of whittling some scrap wood to make one, and you've already got it all ready."

Wu Xie snorted, looking a little smug.

Normally, after preparing the bait for winter fishing, you have to wait for more than an hour or two. Given that the temperature here is too low, Fatty and Xie decided to wait until five or six o'clock in the afternoon to go fishing.

They went back upstairs and made self-heating rice. After eating, they went back to their sleeping bags to rest.

The cold wind outside kept blowing against the window frame. The old wooden planks, which were not very stable after being pried open, creaked and groaned in the wind. The sound was uneven, sometimes loud and sometimes soft, but it did not affect the sleep of the people inside.

I woke up from a quick nap, and it was almost time.

Zhang Haixing and Feng studied the star chart and map to determine their next direction and route. As time ticked by, they had given up hope that Bai Ci would return before tomorrow morning.

Fatty and Xie didn't care about anything else. They rubbed their hands together, wrapped themselves in thick blankets, and prepared to go out fishing for delicious food.

Since there were no earthworms or worms to be found in this frozen soil, Wu Xie scooped out rice grains from the bottom of the bowl left over from lunch, mixed them with fragrant rice wine, and rolled them into many balls the size of the tip of a thumb.

The fat man bent two surgical needles over a fire to make fishhooks, came over to take a look, picked up the lunchbox, and poured the remaining vegetable soup inside onto the small rice balls.

"It smells delicious and smells amazing, even I, Fatty, find it so appealing. I'm sure the fish won't bite," the fat man said earnestly.

With everything prepared, the two of them took their backpacks, stuffed their sleeping bags inside to make a makeshift mat, sat down on the platform, set up their fishing rods and lines, and began fishing.

The last bit of gloves they had left over, along with the remaining fingertips, were used to fill them with the fluorescent liquid poured from the tube. They tied a knot at the opening, attached it to a hook with a thin string, mimicking a glow-in-the-dark fishing hook, and lowered it into the water along with the bait. As evening approached, the air was unusually cold; despite having hot water bottles tucked into their arms, they were still shivering. To avoid startling the fish, they secured the fishing rods with something, focusing only on the float on the surface.

With perfect timing, location, and luck, the fat man got a fish on his hook in less than half an hour. Seeing the float suddenly plunge downwards, almost being pulled into the water, the fat man immediately grabbed the fishing rod and pulled it up. The heavy weight in his hand told him that the fish he had caught this time was definitely not small.

Sure enough, upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a mountain fish nearly forty centimeters long. This type of fish is a true cold-water fish, capable of thriving in water as cold as minus twenty degrees Celsius.

Although the ideal temperature for alpine fish is between -16 and -18 degrees Celsius, the fish in this almost isolated sacred lake have lived in such a low-temperature environment for many years and must have long been accustomed to reproducing at this temperature.

There were obviously many mountain fish in this lake, and before long the fat man caught another one, which was more than half a hand's width larger than the previous one.

Wu Xie was so envious that tears were about to stream down his face. He looked at Fatty with a resentful gaze and complained, "My fishing skills aren't bad either. We use the same rod, the same line, and the same bait, so why do the fish always bite your hook?"

The fat man sniffed and grinned, "How about we switch places? Maybe the feng shui is better on my side."

Wu Xie stubbornly said, "No, I'm going to fish here. I just don't believe it."

After saying that, he turned his head and stared intently at the float, muttering to himself, "Only two? My bait will definitely be more effective than you think."

However, things didn't go as planned. An hour later, Fatty dropped his fishing rod and went back to the temple to get some wine that was still warm on the stove. But as soon as he put his butt on his backpack, a fish took the bait.

Wu Xie stared at the five large frozen fish that the fat man had neatly arranged on the pallet, his eyes filled with such resentment that they were almost tangible.

"Let's switch." In the end, his inner desires overcame his unwillingness to admit defeat. Wu Xie pouted and muttered, "You've caught so many already, let's switch, at least let me have a taste of the fish too."

The fat man chuckled and sighed, then got up and scattered the remaining bait. He patted Wu Xie on the shoulder and made room for him.

Wu Xie happily moved to a different spot, took a sip of liquor with relish, and waited for the fish to take the bait.

Perhaps it was feng shui that affected his luck, because shortly after the fat man took his place, the float in front of him began to vibrate erratically.

Anyone who has fished in the wild knows that this phenomenon of the float sinking to the bottom is usually caused by the bait becoming soggy underwater, making it too big for small fish to swallow whole, causing them to circle around the bait.

Wu Xie prayed in his heart that even a small fish would be good, as today was his first day of business, and he believed that things would only get better from there.

The idea that you should lift your fishing rod as soon as you see the float sink is deeply ingrained in the minds of anglers, so Wu Xie did not hesitate and immediately lifted the rod, only to find that the force under his hand was unusually heavy.

Good night
